I am sending some suggested work for the week ahead. Please don’t feel under pressure to complete it. There is no obligation to finish it all, pick and choose what suits you and your current family life/situation.

Action Maths - page 98 Count on and count back

Sometimes children find these sums confusing. It might be helpful to draw out a separate number line for the children to use. Do plenty of oral practise before completing the page. Ex. Ask the children to put a counter/block/piece of pasta on the number 2 and take 3 jumps forward(using their counter) Do lots of examples first and encourage your child to physically move the counter each time.

Action Maths - page 99 Using 5 cubes/marbles/pasta shapes tell

the story of 5. This is all the ways we can make the number 5, in a sum. ie: 5+0=5

Draw out two big circles and put your cubes into them to make the sum. Example below:

5 + 0 = 5Move one cube over to the empty circle and name the new sum:

4 + 1 = 5Continue moving one cube each time until the last sum (0+5=5)

Say the sum aloud each each time you make a new one.Write down each new sum, one under the other in your copy.This is called ‘The story of 5’. Play the whole track and ask them to imagine the tortoise moving around very slowly. Discuss: Does the music reflect the movement of the tortoise?

Play last week’s piece of music: “The flight of the bumblebee”. Discuss the main difference between the two pieces of music-the speed. Why is this?
