    Students need to bring their ID's to

    school and cards will be scanned

    upon entering and exiting the

    building.

    All adults/visitors must show a

    picture ID and sign in with the

    guard at the Oahu front desk. They

    will be issued a visitor's tag at that

    time.

    Oahu Students who have NOT

    taken their pics yet must do so on

    ourmake-up day on October 18

    from 9 - 12 p.m.

    I am sending some pictures of the"Show and Tell" organized by Jennifer L.,

    in Waikoloa. It was a wonderful eventand we had so much fun! The kids did a

    really good job, and the most importantpart: they had the opportunity to present

    before an audience!!! As a parent having

    a child enrolled in an online charterschool always look forward to

    opportunities such as this one to

    complement my child's education. Themoms I have met who attended the

    event said they kids loved the experience

    and they couldn't wait to do it again andthat they were already thinking on what

    to do next.

    HIGH SCHOOL

    NEWSThePSAT/NMSQT(Preliminary Scholastic

    Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship

    Qualifying Test) test will be given onSaturday,October 16, 2010 at 8:00 AM at the Oahu HTA

    Learning Center. (Outer Island sites will be at their

    respective schools at the same time, except for Big

    Island which site is still TBD.)

    The test, which includes a Critical Reading section, a

    Math section, and a Writing Skills section is geared to

    all junior and sophomore students, however is availabletoallhigh school students. There are many benefits in

    taking the PSAT as a practice test for future

    standardized tests as well as being a practice for the

    SAT test. It is also the only way to qualify for the

    National Merit Scholarship. The cost for the test is

    $13.00. Students interested in taking the PSAT test can

    sign up at the Learning Center. Please bring cash or acheck made out toHawaii Tech Academyby

    September 20thas well. If you have any questions,

    please email me [email protected]

    September 20th.)

    COUNSELORS CORNER

    This week I thought we would take a look at self-esteem. Sometimes children, teens, and even adults mayhave a difficult time knowing their worth and taking pride in their accomplishments. They may lackconfidence in completing school work on their own, have a difficult time making friends, adjusting to newenvironments, or taking risks and trying new things.

    What is Self-Esteem?

    Self-esteem means you value and take pride in yourself. You know you deserve to be loved, respected, andvalued. It doesnt mean you are perfect because no one is, but you are priceless.Most people who have low self-esteem normally blame others for their problems, have doubts aboutthemselves, lack confidence and dont see their value.

    Why do I need Self-Esteem?

    Good self-esteem is important because it helps you to feel good about who you are as a person. It gives you tcourage to take risks and the ability to believe in yourself. It allows you respect yourself, even when you arenot perfect and make mistakes. And when you respect yourself, adults and other kids usually respect you, to

    Always, always hang around positive people who encourage, respect and see your good qualities. It can be parent, a coach, a teacher, a classmate, or a friend. These people can help you figure out how to do things onotice great qualities and characteristics that you didnt realize you had. The person should also be able togive positive and constructive feedback. These characteristics are crucial to helping a person build their self-esteem.
