YEARLY INTENTION CANDLES We have available year-long Intention candles as a Memorial for deceased loved ones or Prayers for the

living. The decorative glass sheath with gold intention plate may be placed at any of the red

votive candle stands. Those who ordered candles will find them at the designated stands.

Monthly Memorial Masses

Our Parish has a monthly Memorial Mass on the first Saturday of every month. Those enrolled are prayed

for once a month for one year. A large decorative Mass card is available.

September 14 Triumph of the

Cross

This day is also called the Exaltation of the Cross, Elevation of the Cross, Holy Cross Day, Holy Rood Day,

or Roodmas. The liturgy of the Cross is a triumphant liturgy. When Moses lifted up the bronze serpent

over the people, it was a foreshadowing of the salvation through Jesus when He was lifted up

on the Cross. Our Mother Church sings of the triumph of the Cross, the instrument of our

redemption. To follow Christ we must take up His cross, follow Him and become obedient until death, even if it means death on the cross. We identify with

Christ on the Cross and become co-redeemers, sharing in His cross.

We made the Sign of the Cross before prayer which helps to fix our minds and hearts to God.

After prayer we make the Sign of the Cross to keep close to God. During trials and temptations our strength and protection is the Sign of the Cross.

At Baptism we are sealed with the Sign of the Cross, signifying the fullness of redemption and that

we belong to Christ. Let us look to the cross fre-quently, and realize that when we make the Sign of the Cross we give our entire self to God — mind,

soul, heart, body, will, thoughts.

O cross, you are the glorious sign of victory. Through your power may we share in the triumph of

Christ Jesus.

Archdiocese of Newark Announces Phase 3 Directives Allowing Public Sunday Masses with

Restrictions Starting June 21

As part of Phase Three, the following protocols will be observed:

• Based on state public official guidelines, the maximum number of participants for public Masses, Funerals, Baptisms, and Weddings remains at 150 participants in total.

• All the directives on social distancing, wearing of masks, and sanitizing from Phase One and Phase Two remain in force.

• Cardinal Tobin continues to dispense the faithful from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days.

• Parishes will continue to livestream Mass so that those unable to attend may maintain a spir-itual connection with their local parish. Although directives for reopening have been provided to all parishes, it continues to remain the responsibility and decision of each pastor to determine the process and timing for safe reo-pening of their individual parish.

The Archdiocese will continue to monitor the expert guidance of public health officials and federal and state public officials, who have cautioned not to

rush into reopening churches to the faithful before manageable safety protocols can be put in place. The Archdiocese remains committed to the health and well-being of its clergy and staff, the faithful,

and the public.

ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK LAUNCHES UNPRECEDENTED FUNDRAISING EFFORT IN SUPPORT OF COMMUNITY PARISHES

During Pandemic, Cardinal Tobin Encourages Parishioners to Aid Local Churches and Ministries

Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R, Archbishop of

Newark, has announced an unprecedented fundrais-ing initiative specifically aimed at supporting contin-ued outreach and archdiocesan parish communities

during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The effort, coordinated with GoFundMe, a global

online fundraising platform, will enable parishioners to provide direct support to local churches throughout

this challenging time. A dedicated website, at www.rcan.org/parishsupport, has been established

for this program.

PODWYŻSZENIE KRZYŻA

Święto Podwyższenia Krzyża obchodzi Kościół katolicki 14 września. Wiąże się ono

z odnalezieniem drzewa krzyża, na którym umarł Jezus Chrystus a także wyraża głęboki sens krzyża

w życiu chrześcijanina. Istotą święta jest ukazanie tajemnicy Krzyża jako ceny

zbawienia człowieka. Znak krzyża był obecny w chrześcijaństwie od

śmierci Jezusa.

Do VI w. na krzyżu nie umieszczano postaci Chrystusa. Także później nie ukazywano Jezusa

umęczonego lecz chwalebnego: jako Króla z diademem zamiast cierniowej korony na głowie,

albo jako Arcykapłana, albo jako Dobrego Pasterza. Od wieku XII pojawia się motyw cierpienia. Od tego

czasu aż do dziś w Kościele łacińskim zwykle używany jest krzyż gotycki, pasyjny, który wskazuje

na mękę i śmierć Chrystusa jako cenę zbawienia. W tradycji prawosławnej do dziś używany jest krzyż

chwalebny. Od czasów Konstantyna, kiedy to chrześcijanie uzy-skali wolność wyznawania swojej wiary krzyż stał

się znakiem rozpoznawczym chrześcijan. Od tego czasu jest bardzo często używany w liturgii

i uświęca całe życie chrześcijańskie: zaczyna i kończy modlitwę, dzień i każdą ważniejszą

czynność, uświęca przestrzeń i jest używany przy wszelkich błogosławieństwach.

Ojcowie Kościoła podkreślali, że krzyż jest symbolem, w którym streszczają się najistotniejsze

prawdy wiary chrześcijańskiej. Św. Jan Damasceński pisze: "Krzyż Pana naszego Jezusa Chrystusa, a nie

cokolwiek innego, zwyciężył śmierć, zgładził grzech praojca, pokonał piekło, darował nam

zmartwychwstanie, udzielił siły do wzniesienia się ponad doczesność i ponad samą śmierć, zgotował powrót do dawnej szczęśliwości, otworzył bramy

raju, umieścił naturę naszą po prawicy Boga, uczynił nas Jego dziećmi i dziedzicami".

Znak krzyża rozpoczyna i kończy modlitwę chrześcijanina.

W liturgii jest gestem błogosławieństwa. Krzyż zawieszany na szyi, w mieszkaniu, w pracy, stawiany na szczytach świątyń przypomina

wierzącym o ich powołaniu. Jego znaczenie staje się szkołą życia dla chrześcijan widzących w nim

ostateczne zwycięstwo dobra nad złem.

KOMUNIA DUCHOWA

Kiedy ci w trudnych i zawiłych okolicznościach potrzeba siły i męstwa do podołania ciężkim zadaniom, przeciw którym buntuje się twe

wrodzone lenistwo lub zwykła małoduszność, to szukaj tej siły ducha w komunii duchowej, jak jej

szukali święci, idąc na męki i na śmierć męczeńską.

Nie zawsze możesz przystąpić do komunii sakramentalnej, lecz zawsze i w każdej chwili

możesz się wzmocnić komunią duchową. Więc wołaj z głębi duszy:

Wierzę o słodki Jezu, że jesteś rzeczywiście obecny

pod postaciami chleba i wina. Kocham Cię z całego serca! Żałuję za grzechy, którymi Cię

obraziłem(am). Przyjdź do serca mojego, o Ty jedyne pragnienie moje! Rzucam się w Twoje

objęcia, oddaję Ci się cały(a), o jedyny przedmiocie mej miłości. Nie dopuść, abym się

kiedy miał(a) oderwać od Ciebie!
