Creativity

Film provides an excellent outlet for creative expression, and our workshops are designed to widen creative horizons, enabling participants to turn their ideas into something tangible. We can design workshops that utilise film as a creative vehicle, or that integrate additional creative disciplines including such as art, drama or creative writing

Our workshops can be designed to encourage students to broaden their understanding of other cultures or social groups. As a medium, film can take students beyond their own experiences and learn about the world around them and about differing attitudes and beliefs through independent critical thinking.

Cultural Awareness

Our workshops are priced at £350 per day, which includes consultation, two experienced creative practitioners and use of Folkestone Film Factory equipment. Discounts and block-booking are available for booking multiple day workshops - just phone 01303 489515 or email [email protected] for more details.

Looking for something to keep your young ones amused during the school holidays?Folkestone Film Factory runs five-day film workshops during the school holidays for 8-14 year olds. No prior knowledge of film-making is necessary, and participants will work together in small groups to script, storyboard, shoot and edit their own short films. The final films are screened on the last day of the workshop at the students’ very own premiere, complete with red carpet and refreshments.

Partipants receive a framed group photo and a copy of their film to take home at the end of the week. The fun-packed programme includes make-up, costume and set design, special effects and marketing.

The workshops are a great opportunity for kids to build their confidence, try their hand at different roles within a team, and make friends outside their normal social group. The workshops are run by our industry-experienced creative practitioners and are designed to give participants an insight into film-making. Workshops cost £150 per child (with sibling discount available.) Places are limited, so call our office today on 01303 489515 to find out about our next workshop.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

Is your child interested in media, film or journalism?

In September 2010, Folkestone Film Factory is launching PRESS GANG, an after-school club for young people. Members will form a team of young reporters and film-makers who will get the chance to make their own films and design their own newspaper

PRESS GANG has been running as a pilot programme since 2009, and previous members have taken part in all sorts of exciting events, such as interviewing celebrities like Linford Christie or Vic Reeves, reviewing theatre performances and films, writing articles about issues that they feel passionately about, or turning their creative ideas into short films. Some previous members have gone on to study media or film at university, while others have found valuable work experience as a result of their Press Gang participation.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to be part of the Press Gang Team. Activities will be varied and diverse, so the members will get the chance to try new projects and ventures and gain valuable experience in the process.

The after-school club will run every week throughout the school term, on Tuesdays for 8-14 year olds and Wednesdays for 15-18 year olds from 4.30pm - 6.30pm. Each session costs £7 (with a 10% discount if you pay for 10 sessions in advance.)

Sessions will be run by our creative practitioners who have years of industry experience. Call our office now on 01303 489515 to book a place.

Folkestone Film Factory is responsible for organising the annual Freedayz Film Festival - a celebration of cinema for all ages. The festival began in 2009 and takes place every summer, with an exciting programme of film events.

Freedayz 2010 was a roaring success with over 1700 people attending our three free family films screened at the Lower Leas Amphitheatre and a handful of fringe events in smaller Folkestone venues.

For 2011, the programme will be expanding to include even more locations, venues and film events. We are hoping to screen films in unique and unusual locations with our state-of-the-art portable screen, as well as putting together an exciting list of film-related activities to support the main screenings.

The Freedayz Festival is funded entirely by donations, grant-funding and sponsorship, so in order to run this amazing programme of community events, we need your support!

Why not sponsor a film event?Sponsorshop packages are available for businesses who would like to support a screening or event. Packages include a promotional film which will screen before the main feature, space at the event for a merchandise stand and advertising in our events programme. Our larger screenings attract over 600 people, so it’s a great way to reach a large audience. Contact us for more details.

Why not host a film event?Do you own a restaurant, cafe, bar, venue or private space? We’re on the lookout for interesting locations in which to screen films and host film events. This could include a ‘food & film’ or ‘music & film’ event. Contact us to discuss your event ideas. Participation will guarantee promotion in our events programme.

Advertise in our events programmeOur glossy events programme is distributed all over Kent. Ad space starts from as little as £50 for a half-page advert. This price includes optional ad design and layout.
