September 2012 Updates:
End of Term 3 at school
Hahgoot collected another 10 teacher’s awards and won a Principal’s Bronze certificate!
At school Hahgoot studied about the Israeli artist Piven, thanks to a book I
lent her teacher. The kids used Piven’s style of making people out of objects
and made portraits of people with different occupations using objects that
related to that person.
Hahgoot mad e a sweet and gentle ballerina.
Hahgoot has been enjoying going out of class twice a week to study maths with a
combined year 1-2 class. The teacher there was very welcoming and included
Hahgoot quickly.
She has been exempt of spelling lists and has been writing stories instead.
She has also been doing year 2 and 3 maths workbooks on her own in class.
At home, Hahgoot has been working well in year 2
comprehension workbooks in Hebrew and in workbooks I
compiled for her, about Hebrew grammar (roots and verbs).
Her grandpa Ido sent her a book about fairies in
Hebrew. When she finished complaining and
being negative, she found out she could
read it easily and really enjoyed it .
She has been increasingly working more independently in her Hebrew
workbooks and doing silent reading in Hebrew as well, so I no longer need
to push her forward.
Hahgoot has been very positive about the activities in the Debora Plummer book (activities dealing with stress, anxiety and change),
so we have been exploring emotions in a variety of ways, through drawing, discussion,
worksheets and physical games.
In English Hahgoot has been hooked to the “Australian Girl” series (top left).
In maths she has been working hard on multiplication and other mathematical explorations
She especially likes this Maths workbook in Hebrew, that is all about figuring out patterns and rules through thinking, exploration and
experimentation.
Hahgoot got photography homework from me as part of the school homework I write for her each
week: she had to take a photo of a mini-beast, an animal and a flower using close up, while paying
attention to focus and composition (the main subject needs to be in the centre of the picture).
She took these pictures by herself, I only helped with technical issues (the camera is still a bit heavy
for her). She decided on subject, focus and composition by herself.
