September is almost over. By the time you read this, it will be over. Boy what a month! We had our Annual

Chicken Cookout at Bob’s House of Honda on the 7th and had a Great Turnout. We had members from Chapter

Z, Q and W2. Had a few from District to come join us, Alan & Glenda Keough and Reginald and Kim Seymour, of

course they are Chapter TN-N members also. We cooked 200 chickens half’s and only had about 15 that did not

sell, but I think they all sold, some of the pre-sale did not come and pick them up. I hope to do 250 next year.

I don’t have the number of visitors from the other Chapters, Diane had the sign-up sheet and she has not sent it to me yet, but we had a very good crowd. Thanks to Charlie and Pam Huffman. Did you know that Charlie and

Pam have a drug problem, they drug a bunch of Chapter Z members to Jackson. Al & Cindy Bidwell came to the

cookout. It was nice to see Al out and about now.

Thanks to Sandy Hayes, Billy & Shirley Mullins, Avery & Diane Davis, we have two plaques they captured

from Chapter Z at their meeting this month. Now we have two to give away at our Fun Day, so all of you come

and get them if you can.

Our Chapter had a Dinner Ride to Rockabilly Restaurant in Selmer TN. I did not get to go, I had to work,

some of still have to do that you know. But it won’t be long, another 4 years and I am retiring. I think Richard

Griffin and myself are retiring at the same time and we have been talking about going to the 4 corners of the

USA. Now that is going to be FUN, FUN, FUN! At the Dinner Ride was Avery & Diane Davis, Jeff, Shari & Shan-

non Douglas and I believe Shannon had a friend to visit. Billy & Shirley Mullins, Henry Rosenthal , Eldon & Deb-

bie Seaton & Sandy Hayes.

I just bought a Concession Trailer and for the past two weekends, it has kept me busy. I think the hardest

thing about it, is the clean up afterwards. It has taken me about two days to get everything cleaned and put back where everything goes. My mother went with me on the first festival, she wanted to go to help, but she just

wanted to go because she thought it might be fun. She is 72 and hung in there with us. I love her dearly, but

man, can she make a mess. She was making funnel cake mix and there was flour everywhere in the back of the

trailer. But we had a good time.

Well, been working to get Fun Day in order. I hope to see a lot of you there. I hope that we can get the Recrea-

tion Lodge again next year at Natchez Trace State Park, it was nice there and had plenty of room. We couldn’t get

it this year, someone had already reserved it. But we will make plans early next year to get it. I think we will have

a good time at Parkers Cross Roads Community Center. Had a guy call me, he said that there were about 30-40

bikers staying at the KOA camp ground, which is just down the highway from where we are. He heard about the

Fun Day and wanted to know if they could come to check it out. I told him to bring it on, maybe we and some of

the other Chapters can get some new members out of this.

So, until then

Hello everybody. I hope all of you are doing ok. Can you believe that it is almost October? Man, have we been

having some beautiful weather. Makes me want to pull out the full set of leathers.

I want to thank all of our visitors that came to our Chicken BBQ and for being so nice about the delay. We will

do better on our next one. We had a big turn out from our friends at other Chapters.

We are now getting ready for our Fun Day on October the 5th at Parkers Crossroad. Come and have some good

food, play some great games, and spend the day enjoying some fellowship with everyone. Hope to see all of you there. It is easy to find the location—come to the 108 exit on I-40, get off there and go north, we will be on the

right hand side of the road. I believe we have some plaques that you can win.

Debbie and I are planning a 4 day ride through the mountains at the end of October. I hope there is still

plenty of color that late, but if not, we will still enjoy the ride. I am going to ride part of the Blue Ridge Parkway,

never been on it, going to be fun. Anybody that wants to go, give me an e-mail and we will join up somewhere.

The dates will be October 24, 25, 26, 27. Not going to be in a hurry, just looking for a great ride.

Hope all of you members are getting ready for the Chili Cook off. Had some good stuff last year, going to be

better this year. Jeff is going to build the biggest fire for Diane. Got to keep her bones warm.

Better go, I’m always late with mine, and Sandy is ready for it. Some pictures for thought are below.

VACANT

GWRRA TN-N

NEEDS YOU!!

The Motorist Awareness Division and Rider Education Program, through a Team effort, are committed to a

goal of establishing the safest motorcycling environment possible. While Rider Education trains and educates

motorcycle riders, the Motorist Awareness Division (MAD) will focus on educating the motorist community.

Our primary goal in motorist awareness will be to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes with other high-

way users, a reduction in the loss of life, and a reduction in injuries.

A New Era in Motorist Awareness - A Simple Plan ...

The Motorist Awareness Division of GWRRA, through a "Share the Road" campaign will pursue three aspects

of motorist awareness. Each of these three are supportive of each other:

Awareness Education - Providing motorists with First Class, professional education through our certified

seminar presentations. Our presentations will be developed for a multitude of audiences, educating them

to a better understanding of motorcyclists, the risks involved, a heightened awareness of motorcycle pres-

ence and what they as motorists can do in the prevention of crashes.

"Drive Aware!"

Awareness Advertisement - Serves as a reminder to motorists that they share the road with motorcycles.

Reinforced reminder to the education aspect.

Public Relations - Interaction with the motoring public has the ability to reflect highly on GWRRA and to

mold public opinion on how they view motorcyclists.

Our goal in this area is to build a rapport with motorists and leave them with a feeling that motorcyclists are

real people who could be their friend, neighbor, or even a relative.

The Motorist Awareness Division has already begun working with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and

other organizations within the motorcycling community. Communications and the sharing of information be-

tween us and these organizations helps build our programs, sets the stage for success and benefits the entire

motorcycling community.

We have put a lot of miles on the trike this month. Trying to make up for all the rain days earlier in the year.

Some days we take the trike just to run an errand. Avery still refuses to go and get groceries on it. I keep telling

him that we could just take the trailer. He says he might want to take the long way home and he doesn’t want

the ice cream to melt. We took a day ride with Shirley and Billy Mullins this week. We went to Lynchburg, TN

and ate at Miss Bobo’s. Our Chapter wanted to go there this year but we couldn’t seem to get the trip together.

We were disappointed that Judy’s Leather Shop on the Square was closed. We knew they closed on Tuesday so we waited until Wednesday to go but they had closed for a week vacation. I so wanted a brown purse. Not that I

needed it, I just wanted it. Don’t have a brown one for a concerned weapon and you know we girls have to have

one of every color to match our shoes.

Our FUN DAY is Oct. 5th and we have a FUNfastic day planned. We also have WOOD, the Region N plaque

and the District plaque. Some of us will be going to Clarksville on the 30th so we could possibly have all four.

They have the COY and Middle/West TN plaques. Great prizes and food. Be sure to come to the Community

Center at Parker’s Crossroads.

Our chapter did so much this month I can’t possibly write about everything. I’m sure someone will cover the

Chicken Smoking, giving away of the gun and our dinner ride to the Rockabilly Café. Sharing pictures of Dis-

trict. We all had fun.

Goings On

WOW! Wasn’t that another incredible district picnic! Be sure to see the Rest of the Best of the district pic-

tures. I have so much fun telling stories in picture of those who attend the events.

Then came TN-N’s Chicken Cook-out. We worked out some kinks and sold almost 200 chicken halves. This

is a keeper. Thanks to all our members who worked so hard to make it a success and thank you to all the chap-

ters who rode to share in the food and fellowship. At the end of the event, we held our monthly gathering and took care of some business. Make note of our new meeting time which is now 9:30 AM for breakfast and

10:30 AM meeting time. Location and time of the month is unchanged.

Way to go TN-N for making the trip to Chapter Z and coming back with the Wood. So Chapters take note—

TN-N has the Tennessee District Traveling Plaque and the Region N Wanderer Plaque. You will have to come to

FUN DAY on October 5th to get them away from us. See you there.

A good number of our members met up at Rockabilly Café again on the September 19th Dinner Ride.

Closing out the month, Diane and Avery joined TN-Y for dinner at Hagy’s Catfish at Shiloh. We do love our

catfish.

News From District

Richard & Becky Griffin

Hello Tennessee Wingers!

Changes are inevitable and as things change they stay the same. I thought that we were on a steady course

and somebody through a “Monkey Wrench” in all my plans and we are ramping up to make another move.

Becky has a new house and I have a lot of new curtains to hang! Isn’t that how it goes? So, I asked myself, “self, why don’t you finally do your new garage the way you have always wanted.” Well, simple projects sometimes

take on a life of their own. Note to self, it can be a lot of work and if it sounds too simple ... it probably is. How

does this all relate to you and your Chapter you ask? Well, as we move along thinking it will all stay the same, it

will not. Our association is designed to constantly change and this time of year many of our Officers are think-

ing about making a change also. If your Chapter Director has decided to step down, hopefully they have planned

for a smooth succession to make your Chapter Life continue uninterrupted; but just maybe there is nobody will-

ing to step up and take the reins. If this is the case, we are in trouble. By GWRRA requirements, we cannot have

a Chapter unless we have a Director and a Treasurer. Will that next person be you? Are you thinking, not me

that is too much work, or I don’t have time. Are you convinced that you cannot do it effectively? I think you are

not giving yourself enough credit. We have some amazing people in our organization with a great deal of talent.

So step up and give back to your Chapter and your friends. Surround yourself with a good team and you will be

surprised at how easy it really is and how much satisfaction you will get from leading a Chapter to great times

and lots of fun. I don’t want to think of what we must go through should you choose not to take that step.

On to another subject, our upcoming events. First up, our Region OPS meeting in NC. This year it is open to any CD’s or Chapter Officers that might be at the Convention, so make plans and join us. And right around the

corner is the Virginia Rally and the Region Couple of the Year selection, make sure you go and support our Dis-

trict Couple as they give it their best to be the next Region N Couple.

We have our District OPS meeting on the schedule for November 23rd, at Patterson Park Community Center

in Murfreesboro. See the District website for information and a map. Please encourage all Chapter Officers to

attend and any other Chapter participants that would like to come. We will be discussing any new plans and/or

changes for the upcoming year.

Winter Event is scheduled for February 15, 2014. Our theme is “Cupid’s Capers Revisited”. But remember it

is not just for couples, our single friends are more than welcome. We will be at the Lane-Agri Community Cen-

ter, Murfreesboro. Make plans now to attend, we will make sure it is a great time.

Spring Fling will be back in East Ridge at the Camp Jordan Complex. I have recently announced a Logo Con-

test with a theme of “Star Trek, Where No Wing Has Gone Before”. Please have your submission to me no later

that the District OPS meeting. I can’t wait to see all the ideas.

Now, let’s get out and ride, the fall weather has turned out nice and it is the best time of year to be on the bike.

Best of the Best—Chapter N Chicken Cook Out and Monthly Gathering

Making sure people knew it was for St. Jude. Nice touch Tony!

Adding tickets to the drawing for the gun. Thanks Don.

Some chapter members found the only cook shade and shared fellowship while they waited for someone to call “Come to dinner”.

Other chapter members joined us under the tent, close to the aromas of barbeque chicken, to visit.

Finally time for

some of us to sit down and enjoy the great food we had worked hard to pull together. Thanks to the cooks and help-ers—which ended up being all of us!!!

11

Best of the Best—Chapter N Chicken Cook Out and Monthly Gathering

Thanks to Chapter Z. Twenty riders made their way from Columbia to our Chicken Cookout Fundraiser.

Winding it up and putting it away. Our 2nd annual chicken cookout is over and is a success.

Last customer of the day. Time for a little relaxing and visiting. We had 23 members present for the fundraiser. That is great participation. Thanks for all the hard work.

Great Smile Kitty! Visiting with mem-bers while she waits for her chicken dinner.

12

Best of the Best-Rockabilly Dinner Ride

This is a REAL Rockabilly band!! You have to go there.

Hi Bo. His first dinner ride with us!! Shirley and Diane loving the music.

I must point out that Gold bike in the back row. Yep, that-s mine. Night rider!!!!! I make a funny!

Shari, Jeff, Billy, Eldon, Debbie, Shannon, Joseph (Shannon's friend), and that is Avery trying to sneak out of the picture.

13

Best of the Best-Visiting Chapter Z

I think the story went something like “It sure is quiet here without Jeff and Tony.”

They were not able to make the trip with us, our numbers were small but it was all we needed to come back with the Tennessee District Traveling Plaque and the Region N Wanderer Plaque. Boy do we have FUN or what?

Thanks to Diane and Avery and Billy and Shirley—and ME!

Guess who else was at the meeting?

Clue: They melt in your mouth and not in your hand!

I wanted to share some information about this very special program within GWRRA. It is that time of year again.

Couple of the Year Program Overview History and Purpose

GWRRA’s Couple of the Year Program was instituted in 1988 as a successor to our nine-year tradition of

selecting a Wing Ding Queen to serve as ambassador for our association. A program which began as a

way to honor couples at the local level, and to select enthusiastic duos to serve as ambassadors and

spokespersons for GWRRA, has evolved into a useful tool for identifying and helping prepare couples for leadership positions within the organization.

The Couple of the Year Program has two purposes:

First and foremost, the program provides an opportunity for local Chapters to recognize and honor a

couple each year for their dedication, accomplishments and participation within the Chapter.

Secondly, it establishes a process for identifying outstanding couples who can serve their Districts,

Regions, and ultimately the International GWRRA organization as ambassadors and spokespersons.

A NOTE TO THE COUPLE OF THE YEAR

Congratulations! You have been selected to be ambassadors and spokespersons for GWRRA, which is

quite an honor. Your fellow members feel you are extra special and so do we. You have gotten to this

point by your continued work and support of GWRRA, your Chapter, District, and Region, and we wish to

thank you for what you have done.

You are probably asking “So, now what do we do? What is expected of us? The best advice anyone can

give you is to “HAVE FUN” and “BE YOURSELF”! Being Couple of the Year can sometimes be a little

scary, as you become aware of your new-found fame. But most of all, it’s a fun time, a once-in-a-lifetime

experience that will reward you with many wonderful memories. You will meet a lot of new people and

make a lot of new friends. You will also form a special bond with your fellow Couples of the Year.

If you have any questions about what will be expected of you during your “reign,” check with your

Chapter, District, or Region Director, Membership Enhancement Coordinator, Couple of the Year Coordinator or past Couples of the Year. If they don’t have the answers, they will know how to find them.

We hope you will find the information in this Manual very helpful. We wish to thank all of you for all you

have done.

Chapter Couple of the Year Requirements

• Couple must consist of one male and one female.

• Both male and female must hold Individual, Family, Associate Individual, or Associate Family Membership in

GWRRA. (Note: Associate Members are eligible to participate in the Couple of the Year program at the Chapter

level only.)

• Membership must be valid through the term of the Chapter Couple of the Year position (one year).

• The Couple must have completed at least one year membership in GWRRA prior to being named Chapter Cou-ple of the Year.

• In order to provide an opportunity for other deserving couples, the same Couple shall not be named as

Chapter Couple of the Year for more than two consecutive years.

So, Reginald and Kim said it best last year. “It is not an option to refuse if you are selected as Couple of

the Year”. Your fellow chapter members have honored you by choosing you for this position. You are all

special to TN-N but we will be selecting a Couple of the Year in November and presenting that couple to

the Chapter at the Christmas Monthly Gathering.
