Fall is in the air. The temperatures are starting to drop, school is back in session (or starting soon), and in a couple of weeks (September 13!), all of our fall programming at Evergreen starts up again. To be honest, even though summer is my favorite season: I can’t wait! I can’t wait because with the fall comes the return of community members we have missed when they were away on vacation, out at the lakes, or taking road trips to exciting new places. With the fall, comes the return of our choirs, youth group, and Sunday School. With fall, comes the hope and excitement tied up in a promising new year, and with it growth in relationships new and old. With fall comes something else, too: the return of a routine — something I never thought I would miss! Yet here I am, looking forward to the routine of so much going on in our church that I sometimes can’t keep track of it all. With a new book study kicking off in September, alongside the return of Sunday School, Youth Group, and Choir, among other things — I am looking forward to the return of the buzz and excitement that comes with the new (school and program) year. I hope you will join us for one or many of these activities as we dive into community and seek to live into our faith and discipleship together. Specifically: I hope you plan to join us for our Rally Day on Sunday, September 13. We will begin with Sunday School (for a adults and children!) and Coffee/Fellowship Hour at 9am, worship at 10am, and a potluck meal and immediately following worship. During worship on the 13th, we will also welcome back our choir who has been on break over the summer, and offer a blessing to everyone starting the new school year. My favorite part of this back-to-school blessing, is that it isn’t just for young students. Rather, my hope is that everyone who is returning to fall classes or work schedules (from students of all ages to teachers and administrators), will bring your backpacks (or briefcases!) to worship on the 13th, and join us for our “Backpack blessing.” Together, we will offer a prayer and a blessing, and give you a token to remember these prayers and our community by. It should be a fun, faith-filled morning you won’t want to miss! I just know this fall is going to bring with it abundant opportunities and countless blessings: and I am so grateful we get to embark on this journey anew together. I look forward to seeing you soon! Peace, Pastor Jen

Evergreen adult choir will have its first practice at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 9th and we’ll sing for the first time this fall on Sunday, September 13th, which is also Sunday School Rally Day. We would love to have some new faces and voices join us in the choir. It is a commitment, yes, but I promise that you will be blessed if you can lend your talents to us. We have fun together and feel privileged to praise God this way. Call Sandy Olson at 701-642-4828 if you have any concerns or questions. If you need a ride or child care, I’m sure that we can w o r k o u t something to make it possible for you to sing in choir.

United Methodist Women - September
It’s hard to believe that fall is fast approaching and we are starting to prepare for the fall UMW
schedule of activities.
Sept 10th will be our next general UMW meeting with Joy Circle Hostesses at 7:00pm. Fern
Bailey will present a report on Mission U, which was held in Jamestown in July.
During this time before our next general meeting you may be asked to serve on a committee
or to take an office for the coming year. This is a time for all of us to examine our hearts and
decide that God gave us all some talents and time that we would be able to be of service in
this way. The slate of officers will be presented at the September meeting with Installation to
take place during the November meeting.
September 17th-19th, at 10:00am both days, the Eastern Sunrise District Meeting will be at
Wesley UMC in Grand Forks ND. We encourage as many members as are able to attend. It
is always a time of inspiration and sharing. Watch for more information on registration and
luncheon in the church bulletin.
The sewing group will again resume the schedule of activities on September 17th at 9:00am.
Everyone is welcome. There will always be a task you can do. If you like you can also take
part in a VERY informal potluck lunch.
October 24th is our Bazaar. The time is fast approaching when we need to be working on
Items for Grandma’s Pantry and Crafts. This year we will once again have a Grandma’s Attic.
Clothing will not be accepted This year we are looking for an individual to be the overall
Chairperson of the Bazaar. If you think this is something you are led to do please notify Fern
Bailey. Be thinking of other ways you can be of service before and on the day of the bazaar.
We will resume our regular meeting times for the circles.

September brings thoughts of going back
to school. September also means Adult Sunday School will be starting. We will
again be using the Faith Link series. This series studies present day issues. The
sessions will be held in the Fireside Room and in the classroom south of the

Welcome back!
Rally Day is September 13th - and it’s going to be a big day! We are going to spend the day celebrating the start to our new year, and dreaming about all we
want to do together in the year to come. We will start with singing, stories, and songs - what more could we ask for!?
Sunday School starts at 9am, with worship to follow (back at our fall schedule time!) at 10am. I certainly hope you will plan
to stay for worship: and bring your backpacks (parents and teachers, too!). Since this is the first time we will all be together
since school began, we will take a special moment during worship to do a backpack blessing for everyone as we pray for
this start of a new school year. In case all of this celebrating
isn’t enough yet, we hope you will join us for our church-wide potluck immediately following worship!
September also brings with it our tradition of gifting Bibles to our third graders during worship on Sunday, Sept. 27 - so please join us for this special day!
I look forward to all this new year is sure to bring!
Pastor Jen
Youth Group is kicking off the week after Rally Day — on Wednesday,
September 16 at 7pm. We will meet in Zion Chapel for a night of fun,
fellowship, and celebrating a new year together! It will be an excellent night to bring a friend as we play some games and get to know each other better!
(There will be pizza and pop to help us celebrate, too!)
This fall I am most looking forward to finding ways we can carry forward the
theme “Go On” from the conference many of you attended in Orlando in June. As we do so, I want to remind you that everyone who went on the trip is asked
to attend a meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 6pm at Evergreen. Together, we will be planning our presentation and sharing time that will take
place during worship on Sunday, September 20 - a day I hope all will be present to support and encourage one another! I am really looking forward to
hearing and seeing more about your trip in the weeks and months to come.
Other activities and events are in the works for this fall, so stay tuned. I look
forward to seeing you soon!
