Work safely or don’t work at allThere are strict procedures when working on installations and systems. After all, there’s a risk for noxious substances to be released. Therefore read the Permit to Work carefully and check if the described control measures have been taken. Then take the precautionary measures which belong to your job.

Always be alert to prevent highly concentrated noxious substances from being released. When in doubt: always ask or stop working! Before starting work, always carry out a Last Minute Risk Analysis (LMRA).

Speaking the same clear language regarding Health, Safety and Environment, and harmonisation of regulations by focusing primarily on agreements between companies and contractors.

That is the goal the member parties of HSElife UNIO pursue.

As well as the information that has already been harmonised, location and company-specific information also applies. Ask for it!

LIFE-THREATENING

Many medicines have undesirable side-effects. In certain doses they can impair your ability to function properly in the workplace. But that is not the only danger they present. If you have an accident or are taken ill and the medics or first aiders do not know what medicines you are taking, they could make an incorrect diagnosis and give you the wrong treatment. That couldput your life in danger.

WHAT MEDICINES?Of greatest concern are tranquilisers, barbiturates like Valium and Librium, antipsychotics and anticoagulants. But you should declare everything, even aspirin. In combination with other medicines - including thoseadministered in medical emergencies - even such ‘benign’ substances can have undesirable or unpredictable effects.

Note, too, that you may have been prescribed medication for a purpose other than its original function.

WHAT TO DECLARE

Before departure, you must declare all the medicines you want to take with you. That includes prescription and non-prescription drugs, and also homeopathic and herbal medicines (although not off-the-shelf products likesupplements). Each item you declare must be accompanied by a written explanatory note from your General Practitioner (GP) or the NOGEPA medical examiner, which the medic (if present) or OIM can check if necessary.

WHERE TO DECLARE

All medicines must be declared first to security at Den Helder Airport and then, upon arrival at the platform, to the medic (if present) or OIM.

CHECKS

Security at Den Helder regularly checks passengers for undeclared medicines. If you are found to be carrying any, you will not be allowed to board your flight. There are no checks upon arrival at the platform or during your stay there, but that is no excuse to bring or to use undeclared medicines.
