Thilagar, Vice–Chancellor, TANUVAS unfurled the National Flag at the University Headquarters, distributed Kisan Vikas Patras for the employees who have rendered 25 years of unblemished service, addressed the gathering and inaugurated a multiple mobile sprinkler unit at URF, Madhavaram and planted tree saplings. Staff and students of the University participated. The Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS also unfurled the National Flag at Madras Veterinary College campus and addressed the gathering. Dr. Gurmeet Kaur Dhaliwal, Associate Diplomate ACT and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Dr. D.B. Patil, Director of Research and Dean, PG Studies, Kamdhenu University, Gujarat were present as Guests of Honour. The Deans of VC&RIs at Namakkal, Tirunelveli and Orathanadu, CFDT, Koduvalli and CPPM, Hosur unfurled the National Flag at their respective campuses. The NCC Cadets at MVC and VC&RI, Namakkal presented a ceremonial parade during the occasion.     The Country’s 69th Independence Day was celebrated at the various units of TANUVAS on 15.08.2015. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice–Chancellor, TANUVAS unfurled the National Flag at the University Headquarters, distributed Kisan Vikas Patras for the employees who have rendered 25 years of unblemished service, addressed the gathering and inaugurated a multiple mobile sprinkler unit at URF, Madhavaram and planted tree saplings. Staff and students of the University participated. The Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS also unfurled the National Flag at Madras Veterinary College campus and addressed the gathering.     24.08.2015 at URF, Madhavaram. Tmt. Santha Sheela Nair, I.A.S., Vice-Chairperson, State Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu participated and interacted with the farmers. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided. Thiru. Anil Meshram, I.A.S., Member Secretary, State Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu and Dr. M. Babu, Director, Centre for Animal Production Studies, TANUVAS were present. A total of 22 farmers from various parts of Tamil Nadu participated.

    CLINICAL EXTERNSHIP TRAINING

    TANUVAS conducted externship programme on clinical practical training on companion and large animal practice for 8 students of Universitas Gadjah Mada - Indonesia, 6 students of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and 4 students of Universiti Putra Malaysia from 27.07.2015 to 21.08.2015. An interactive meet and valedictory function was held on 11.08.2015. Thiru. K. Shanmugam, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Finance Department, Government of Tami Nadu and Dr. S. Vijayakumar, I.A.S., Secretary to Government, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of Tamil Nadu

    participated as Chief Guests, delivered felicitation address and distributed the certificates to the overseas students. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided. Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS was present. Dr. T.N. Ganesh, Director of Clinics i/c, TANUVAS welcomed the gathering. Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. P.S.     COLLEGE ANNUAL DAY - 2015 CELEBRATIONS

    The College Annual Day - 2015 of VC&RI, Tirunelveli was celebrated at Ramayanpatti campus on 13.08.2015. Thiru. T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu participated and distributed prizes to the winners of various cultural, sports and literary events, released the College Annual Magazine and delivered the College day address. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice–Chancellor, TANUVAS delivered the special address. Hon’ble M.L.As Thiru. Nainar Nagenthran, Tmt. S. Muthuselvi, Thiru. A. Narayanan and Thiru. Gopalsamy, Dr. M. Karunakaran, I.A.S., District Collector, Tirunelveli, Thiru. Kallur. E. Velayutham, Chairman, Manur Panchayat Union and Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS participated and felicitated. Dr. S. Prathaban, Dean, VC&RI, Tirunelveli presented the annual report. The students performed various cultural events.

    VISIT OF HON’BLE MINISTER FOR ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

    Thiru. T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu reviewed the Scheme on “Establishment of Fodder Production Units in Meikkal Poramboke Land in Vellore District” implemented by VUTRC, Vellore at Kilveedhi Village, Arakkonam Taluk, Vellore district

    VISIT OF SCIENCE EXPERTS OF AFU, NEPAL

    A four member team of Agricultural and Forestry University (AFU), Nepal led by Dr. I.P. Dhakal, Dean, Faculty of Animal, Veterinary and Fisheries Science with Dr. Naba Raj Devkota, Director of Research and Extension, Dr. Shyam Kishor Sah, Director, Teaching Hospital and Dr. Bhuminand Devkota, Director, Center for Bio-technology visited the various constituent units of TANUVAS including MVC, CFDT, Koduvalli, PGRIAS, Kattupakkam, TRPVB and CUL, Madhavaram under USAID funded “Agricultural Innovation Partnership” programme between 16.08.2015 and 21.08.2015. During their visit, they also held discussions with Dr. S.

    Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS on issues related to student and faculty exchange programmes, research collaboration and faculty training. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Livestock Business Management, MVC.

    TRAINING PROGRAMME ON DEVELOPING WINNING RESEARCH PROPOSALS

    A four-day training programme on “Developing winning research proposals” offered by NAARM, Hyderabad was organized by the Directorate of Research, TANUVAS at MVC from 10.08.2015 to 13.08.2015. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. D. Rama Rao, Director, NAARM delivered the presidential address. Thiru. K. Venkateswara Rao, Chief General Manager, NABARD participated as Chief Guest and offered the special address. Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS felicitated. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Organizing Secretary and Director of Research, TANUVAS welcomed the gathering. Dr. K. Kumanan, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 25 participants from various constituent units of TANUVAS attended the programme.

    INTERNATIONAL CLINICAL CASE CONFERENCE

    TANUVAS organized the Seventh International Clinical Case Conference on Farm and Companion Animal Practice for veterinary students at VC&RI, Namakkal between 13.08.2015 and 14.08.2015. In the valedictory function held on 14.08.2015, Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided over the function, delivered the presidential address and released the compendium. Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean, VC&RI, Namakkal proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 411 delegates including faculties, practising veterinarians and students from all over India and Malaysia participated.

    ORIENTATION TRAINING

    A ten-day Orientation Training Programme for the newly recruited Assistant Professors of TANUVAS was organized at VC&RI, Tirunelveli from 03.08.2015 to 13.08.2015. Besides lectures and practical sessions on various aspects of teaching, learning and education, topics on research project proposal preparation, clinical services, health and diagnostic services, farm activities, extension modalities focusing on the mandates of TANUVAS were addressed. In the valedictory function, Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS congratulated the faculty and distributed certificates to the participants. Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS was present. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Livestock Business Management, MVC and his team. A total

    of 28 Assistant Professors from VC&RIs, Orathanadu and Tirunelveli attended the programme.

    DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND FOR VETERINARY PRACTITIONERS

    The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, MVC organized a National Training Programme on “Diagnostic Ultrasound for Veterinary Practitioners” for updating the knowledge and skills of the practicing veterinarians in the area of diagnostic ultrasound from 24.08.2015 to 28.08.2015. In the valedictory function, Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC distributed certificates to the participants. Earlier, Dr. S.R. Srinivasan, Professor and Head, Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, MVC welcomed the gathering. A total of 11 participants from Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Haryana and Tamil Nadu attended the programme.

    FARMERS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

    Farmers orientation programme on Strategies to improve the reproductive efficiency of

    dairy cattle was jointly organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, TANUVAS and VUTRC, Salem under the financial support of Tamilnadu Livestock Development Agency at Puthragoundanpalayam on 17.08.2015. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided and inaugurated the programme. Dr. K.A. Doraisamy, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Salem welcomed the gathering. Dr. D. Thyagarajan, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS was present. Dr. M. Murugan, Dean, CPPM, Dr. S. Selvaraju, Professor and Head, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, VC&RI, Namakkal, delivered the technical lecture. Exhibition stalls also arranged

    with various breeds of dairy cows, goats and desi birds along with farm equipments for the benefit of farmers. A total of 525 progressive dairy farmers from Salem district participated.

    VUTRC, Rajapalayam also organized the similar programme on 25.08.2015. Dr. V. Thanaseelan, Professor and Head welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Sugumar, RJD(AH), Virudhunagar participated and explained about various Government sponsored livestock and poultry schemes implemented in Virudhunagar District for the benefit of farming community. A total of 500 farmers participated and benefitted.

    TNSLURB SPONSORED PROGRAMMES

    University Research Farm, Madhavaram conducted TNSLURB Scheme - Farmers

    Seminar on “Soil – Fodder – Livestock Interface to augment productivity” on 12.08.2015. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS inaugurated the programme. He emphasized the importance of soil, fodder – livestock interface to augment productivity and distributed fodder seeds and slips to the farmers. Dr. M. Babu, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS briefed about the theme of seminar. Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS and Dr. S. Sankara Subramanyam, RJD(AH), Thiruvallur delivered the special address. Thiru. C.K. Veerannan, Project Director, Tamil Nadu Rural Development Board, Thiruvallur and Thiru. E. Mariappan, I.I.S., Director (News), Doordharshan, Chennai felicitated. Earlier, Dr. P. Tensingh Gnanaraj, Professor and Head, URF welcomed the gathering. A total of 72 farmers including farmers of state fodder development scheme benefitted.

    The Department of Animal Nutrition and Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, VC&RI, Tirunelveli jointly

    conducted a one day workshop on "Soil - Fodder – Livestock Interface to augment productivity” for farmers of Tirunelveli district under TNSLURB scheme on 13.08.2015. In the valedictory function, Dr. T. J. Harikrishnan, Registrar, TANUVAS and Dr. M. Babu, Principal Investigator, TNSLURB scheme and Director, CAPS, TANUVAS participated and distributed certificates and inputs to the farmers. Lectures on importance of soil testing and fodder cultivation technology to improve fodder productivity, role of fodder production in augmenting livestock productivity were arranged. A total of 54 farmers from various parts of Tirunelveli district participated and benefitted.

    VUTRC, Karur also organized the similar workshop for dairy farmers of Karur district on 04.08.2015. Dr. V. Ramanathan, RJD(AH), Karur inaugurated the programme and delivered the special address. Dr. N. Kolandaisamy, AD(AH) and Dr. Murugesan, AD(AH), ADIU was present. A total of 50 farmers owning land and livestock participated and the participants were enlightened with the scientific interventions to be carried out in soil management and fodder production.

    A workshop on “Soil-Fodder-Livestock Interface to augment productivity” under TNSLURB Scheme was conducted at VUTRC,Tiruchirapalli on 26.08.2015. Dr. P.N. Richard Jagatheesan, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Tiruchirapalli welcomed the gathering. Thiru. R.     KVK, Kundrakudi also organized the similar programme on 25.08.2015. Dr. R. Vishwanathan, RJD(AH), Sivaganga delivered the presidential address and released the booklet. Thiru. S. Gurusamy, DFO, Sivaganga and Thiru. R. Gurumurthy, JD(Agri.), Sivaganga delivered the special address and distributed tree fodder saplings to farmers. Earlier, Dr. S. Sendur Kumaran, Associate Professor and Head, KVK, Kundrakudi welcomed the gathering. A total of 79 farmers participated and benefitted.

    TNSLURB SPONSORED TRAINING PROGRAMME

    A one day training programme on “Soil- fodder- livestock interface to augment productivity” was conducted at MSRS, Pottaneri on 10.08.2015. Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean, VC&RI, Namakkal inaugurated the programme. Dr. A. K. Thiruvenkadan, Professor and Head, MSRS, Pottaneri welcomed the gathering. At the end, participation certificate along with gift bag containing TANUVAS mineral mixture (1 Kg), fodder seeds and fodder slips were given to farmers on free of cost for establishing fodder plots in their agricultural land. A total of 114 farmers and livestock keepers from Omalur, Mettur, Salem and Athur blocks of Salem district attended.

    CONTACT CLASS PROGRAMME FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION CERTIFICATE COURSE

    Contact class programme for the Distance Education Certificate course on “Dairy farming”

    was jointly organized by Directorate of Distance Education, TANUVAS and VUTRC, Salem under the financial support of ICAR Tribal Sub-plan at VUTRC, Salem between 27.08.2015 and 28.08.2015. Dr. S.A. Asokan, Director of Distance Education, TANUVAS presided and inaugurated the programme. Dr. K.A. Doraisamy, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Salem felicitated. Apart from classroom lectures, the trainees were also taken for field visit to a dairy farm at Keeraipatti hamlet, Salem district on 28.08.2015. Dr. S. Rajendran, DD(AH) and Dr. K.S. Sundararajan, Specialist, Department of Animal Husbandry, Salem participated. A total of 80 beneficiaries participated and benefitted.

    TRAINING

    VUTRC, Karur conducted four training programmes on “Integrated dairy farming” under the financial assistance of NABARD-FTTF for the farmers of Thargampatti, Keel Pasupathipalayam, Nochipatti and Thammanaickenpatti on 11.08.2015, 12.08.2015, 25.08.2015 and 28.08.2015 respectively. A total of 245 farmers and farmwomen were benefitted. The centre also organized three days training programme on “Desi Bird Rearing” for 23 beneficiaries selected by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Karur

    under Tamil Nadu Poultry Development Scheme from 27.08.2015 to 29.08.2015. Tmt. S. Jayandhi, I.A.S., District Collector, Karur inaugurated the training on 27.08.2015 and distributed training manual to the beneficiaries. Dr. V. Ramanathan, RJD (AH), Dr. N. Kulandaisamy, AD(AH), Karur participated.

    ESTRUS SYNCHRONIZATION CAMP

    The Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, VC&RI, Tirunelveli conducted a special estrus synchronization camp to create awareness among the cattle owners to improve the reproductive efficiency in dairy cows on 19.08.2015. A total of 12 cows were synchronized with indigenously prepared low cost progesterone sponge and farmers were enlightened on the estrus synchronization technique in cows and also pamphlets were distributed.

    SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

    The valedictory programme for the three months duration skill development project titled “Empowerment of Recovered Persons of Mental Illness through Dairy Farming activity in Madurai District”, a joint project of the Directorate of Distance Education, TANUVAS, Chennai, M/s. Mahindra Consulting Engineers Ltd, Chennai and M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation, Madurai, was held on 14.08.2015 at M.S. Chellamuthu Gardens, Ayyuthampatti Village, Madurai. On the occasion, Dr.S.Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS, Chennai distributed heifer calves to the trainees of the project and delivered the valedictory address. Dr. L. Subramanian, District Collector, Madurai delivered presidential address. Dr.S.A.Asokan, Director of Distance Education, Dr. D. Thyagarajan, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS and Thiru. C.S. Narayanan, Chief Operating Officer, Mahindra Consulting Engineers Ltd, Chennai delivered special address.Dr. R. Gopinath, RJD(AH), Madurai, Thiru. A.Perummal,

    General Manager, Aavin, Madurai, Dr.K.S.Mahesh, Asst.General Manager, NABARD, Madurai, offered felicitations. Earlier, Dr. C. Ramasubramanian, State Nodal Officer, District Mental Health Programme, Tamil Nadu delivered welcome address. Dr. B. Muruganandan, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Madurai briefed about the feedback of trainees. Officials of the Tamil Nadu Pudhu Vazhvu Project also participated. At the end, Mrs.R.Rajkumari, Executive Director, M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation, Madurai proposed the vote of thanks.

    CAMPUS INTERVIEW – 2015

    VC&RI, Namakkal organized a Campus Interview for outgoing B.V.Sc.&A.H students and PG students on 12.08.2015. A total of 60 graduates attended. Eight companies from the field of dairy, livestock and poultry management and breeding participated in the interview. Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean, VC&RI, Namakkal inaugurated the programme and delivered the presidential address. Dr. M. Murugan, Dean, CPPM, Hosur, Dr. K. A. Doraisamy, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Salem participated and delivered the special addresses. Earlier, Dr. N. Murali, Professor and Head and Chairman, Placement Cell welcomed the gathering. A total of 41 graduates were selected for employment.

    SPORTS MEET

    The inter-institutional games meet was held at MVC between 03.07.2015 and 04.07.2015 in commemoration of TANUVAS Silver Jubilee Celebrations. MVC won the T-20 cricket and shuttle badminton singles events and was runners up in volleyball and shuttle badminton singles. VC&RI, Namakkal won women’s throwball and was runners up in T-20 cricket and shuttle badminton doubles. VC&RI, Orathanadu bagged the runners up in women’s throwball event. In the valedictory function, Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC addressed the gathering and congratulated the winners. Dr. K. Shanthi, Deputy Director of Physical Education proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 160 students from constituent colleges of TANUVAS participated.

    AWARD

    Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery awarded Dr. Ratan Singh Memorial Award to Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS for his outstanding contribution in the field of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology for the year 2015. The Vice-Chancellor received the award in 39th Annual Congress of Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery and National Symposium held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Srinagar (Kashmir) from 01.09.2015 to 03.09.2015.

    HUMAN CHAIN PROCESSION

    The volunteers of Red Ribbon Club, VC&RI, Orathanadu participated in the human

    chain procession of International Youth Day-2015 organized by District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Thanjavur District on 12.08.2015. The volunteers took the pledge and displayed slogans on AIDS awareness.

    INTERACTION AND SERVICE CAMPAIGN

    An Interaction and Service campaign was organized by National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, MVC at Rehoboth Orphanage, a home for mentally retarded orphans and old age people on 09.08.2015. About 12 NSS Volunteers from MVC actively participated in the programme. They also visited old age home of Rehoboth and interacted with the people.

    SUPERANNUATION

    Dr. C. Chandrahasan, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, MVC retired on 31.08.2015. Born on 16.08.1955, he had put in a total service of 35 years and 04 months.

    Thiru. S. Sekar, Lab Assistant, Vaccine Research Centre – Viral Vaccines, CAHS, TANUVAS retired on 31.08.2015. Born on 15.08.1957, he had put in a total service of 33 years and 02 months.

    Tmt. C. Dilliammal, Attendant (SG), Department of Education Cell, MVC retired on 31.08.2015. Born on 17.08.1955, she had put in a total service of 15 years and 10 months.
