One of my favorite stories is about Chippie the para- keet. Chippie was a happy little bird, content every day to sit on his perch, swinging and singing to his little heart’s con- tent. One day Chippie’s owner took the initiative to clean out his cage. She took off the attachment from the end of the vacuum hose and stuck it in the cage to remove the sediment from the bottom. Just then the phone rang. She turned to pick it up and had barely said hello when "ssupp!" Chippie got sucked in! As you can imagine, the bird owner gasped, dropped the phone, turned off the vacuum and ripped open the bag. Inside, there lay Chippie, still alive but stunned by the trauma. The bird was covered with all the terrible grit and grime that fills vacuum bags, so the owner did the only thing she could think to do. She grabbed him up, raced to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and held Chippie under run- ning water. Then realizing poor little Chippie was soaked and shivering, she did what any good bird owner would do. She reached for the hair dryer and blasted the little guy with hot air. Poor Chippie never knew what hit him. A couple of days after the experience, the reporter who first wrote about the event talked to Chippie’s owner. He asked how the bird was doing. She said, "Well Chippie doesn’t sing much any- more-he just sits and stares." It’s no wonder. One minute the little guy was swinging and singing, and before he knew it he was sucked in, washed up and blown over. If that doesn’t turn your song into a blank stare, nothing will. In his book In the Eye of a Storm , Max Lucado talks about traveling from one speaking engagement to an- other. He had traveled from San Antonio to Boston and had spoken at a gathering in Boston. Then he was flying on to Edmonton, Canada to fulfill a speaking engagement there. When his plane landed in Minneapolis and he had to change airplanes, he was thinking about how tired and hungry he was, how crowded the airplane had been, how his back was aching and how his mind was hurting. Try as he might, he couldn’t even remember who was supposed to meet him at his destination in Canada. As he was heading to the gate to catch his next airplane, he saw a McDonald’s in the dis- tance and thought, "That looks good. Maybe I’ll run over there, buy a hamburger and that will at least satisfy my hunger pains." Then he writes, "I passed something better. I passed a telephone and decided to call home. I called and my wife answered the phone. I’m convinced that when my wife gets to heaven she’s going to be at the reception desk welcoming everyone in because when she answers the phone it makes you feel so good." He continued, "I just talked with her. We settled earth-shaking issues. We talked about the weather in San Antonio vs. the weather in New England. We talked about what the girls did when they went to school that day and that one of them was going to have a friend over to spend the evening." "We talked about earth-shaking things like that," he said. "And after I had finished talking with her I really felt good. Then she passed the receiver over to one of my daughters who told me about her day. When she finished she said, “I love you, Dad.’" And he said, "It felt good to be loved." Then the phone was passed over to the next daughter and she talked to him for a while and she said, "I miss you, Dad." And he said, "It felt good to be missed." Then he said, "They passed the phone over to the little six-month-old baby, and I talked to my baby over the phone. I cooed and I talked baby talk, and the people passing by looked at me in strange ways. But it felt good to be cooed at. Then we hung up and I made my way on to the next gate." He recalled, "I forgot how hun- gry I was. I forgot how tired I was because I had called home and that made all the difference in the world." Then he adds, "Maybe we all ought to call home more often. If you do, you will find the listening ear of God so anxious to talk to you. He will make you feel good from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. And as you grow in your love, you’ll find your fears disappear." Think about it, Jeff

Ladies In Action will be collecting donations for the

Grants during July, August and September . A list of needed

items is on the table in the hall across from the baby nursery. A

collection box is in the vending machine area.

Thank you again for allowing God to use you to

accomplish His purpose.

Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for your kind expression of love shown to our family.

Thank you for the prayers, cards, the dinner served and the ones that cooked and

served. Mom would have loved your giving Bibles in her honor! Your special ways and

generous heart made a beautiful difference.

Thank you again,

The Prindle Family

Jane Young & Betty Anderson

Dear Church Family,

Words cannot begin to express our gratitude for all that was done for us during Darlene’s illness. Prayers, cards,

visits, etc. overwhelmed us with the love that our church family has for us. God has truly blessed us by sending us to Walnut.

It would be impossible to thank each person individually, but please know each one of you are very special to us and hold a

very special place in our hearts. Thank you for being such a supportive family to two transplants!!

Noel & Darlene Jordan

A big thank you to the F.O.R.C.E. teams that helped move our mother to the

Roosevelt House .

God Bless You,

Jo Ann Richardson,

Sherry & Alan Rafferty

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU

To Some Behind-The-Scenes People!!!!!

Sometimes people do things that no one knows about, so we want to take

this opportunity to say “Thank you”.

To: Bettie Fray for our Card Ministry To: Amanda Staples for planting our flowers

To: Our Funeral Meal Committees To: Our Men’s F.O.R.C.E. teams for your work

To: Walt Robinson & his crew for trimming our bushes and shrubs.

To: Richard & Sharon Russelburg for spraying weeds.

We truly appreciate all that you do for our church!!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers & calls during the recent illness & death

of our father & grandfather Robert Keenan. We especially want to thank the Pastoral staff & Deacons for their visits to the

hospital. I know he appreciated it. Thank you also for the donation of the Gideon Bibles & to the Cornerstone Bible Study

class for the donation to the Building Fund in his memory.

We were overwhelmed with the support shown during the visitation & funeral. A special thanks for the meal that

was provided for our family. It gave us a great opportunity to fellowship with family we had not seen in years. Even though

the service was performed honorably by his grandsons Donald & Lee Rice, we still very much appreciate the wonderful

pastors of WMBC. We are BLESSED to be part of such a loving church family.
