We are thinking about the Septem- ber meeting being a tour of the Toyota plant. This would be on Sept 16th which is on a Tuesday evening. The tour starts at 7pm and you would need to be there at least 15 minutes early. Also, there is a limit of 16 people that can be taken on the tour. If you are interested in attending, please let me know as soon possi- ble . You can e-mail me at: [email protected] or after Sept. 5th call at 812-867-3858 . We will take reservations on a first come, first served basis. If we do not do the tour, then the meeting will be on the 17th at a location to be determined. Contact Janice Elwood at [email protected] for de-tails. Suzy and I are visiting in Ohio at our old Yacht Club and have noticed that the fall colors are beginning to show. A word to the wise: enjoy this beautiful weather while you can; fall and winter are not far behind! We look forward to seeing each of you at the next meeting! Hope to see you there. Weather Course Description

The safety and comfort of those who venture out-on-the water have al-ways been weather dependent. In this course students will become keener observers of the weather, but weather observa-tions only have

meaning in the context of the basic princi-ples of meteorology — the science of the atmosphere.

The course focuses on how weather sys-tems form, behave, move, and interact with one another and reflects the availabil-ity of all sorts of weather reports and fore-casts on the Internet. Wx 2012 is a gen-eral weather course benefiting those sit-ting in their living rooms, as much as those standing behind the helm. Each student receives:

· a Weather Manual - USPS Weather - an explanatory text with full color photographs and draw-ings covering weather in the United States and its coastal and inland waters;

· a set of three Daily Weather Maps - learning aids with a complete explanation of map symbols de-signed to develop weather map reading and analysis skills; and

· NOAA’s Sky Watcher Chart - a reference to assist in identifying cloud types – helpful indicators of approaching weather.

————————————————— PICNIC AT BURDETTE PARK Our annual picnic returned to Burdette

Park at the Lakeside Cabin. It was

right on their lake as you enter the park. It was well attended and everyone en-joyed catching up with each other prior to eating.

This year we had BBQ..and lots of sal-ads, and desserts. No one went away hungry. Thanks to Suzy Picking for getting the BBQ and all the paper essentials. And, special thanks to David Bryant for providing the potato salad, tea, and lemonade. After eating,m Sam Richey presented a power point presentation on his

recent trip with Greg Hendrix on bring-ing Greg’s newly purchased boat from Ottawa, Illinois back to Kentucky Lake. Greg had planned on attending but had special circumstances that prevented him from attending. Sam ably made the presentation with his usual funny quips. Greg’s boat is named Geodyssey. It is a 43 footer with twin diesel engines.

The June trip took just about 7 days to make the 600 miles. The trip began on the Illinois River, then down the Mississippi to the Ohio and ended on the Tennessee River at Kentucky Dam Village Marina. Sam said they traveled about 10-12 hours per day with their speeds rang-ing from 10 to 14 mph. The Mississippi was a little high and turbulent and it had many wing dams that contributed to the tur-bulence. It was not the most enjoyable trip as the Mississippi was hard to navigate. But...they made it!!!
