21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As

the Father has sent me, I am sending

you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and

said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive

anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do

not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

“Commissioned officers derive authority directly from a sovereign power and, as such, hold

a commission charging them with the duties and responsibilities of a specific office or position. Commissioned officers are typically the only

persons, in a military environment, able to act as the commanding officer of a military unit.”

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All

authority in heaven and on earth has been

given to me. 19 Therefore go and make

disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the

name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey

everything I have commanded you. And

surely I am with you always, to the very end

of the age.”

14 The Word became flesh and made his

dwelling among us. We have seen his

glory, the glory of the one and only Son,

who came from the Father, full of

grace and truth.

9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man

named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s

booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew

got up and followed him. 10 While Jesus was

having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax

collectors and sinners came and ate with him

and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw

this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your

teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple

courts, where all the people gathered around

him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The

teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in

a woman caught in adultery. They made her

stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus,

“Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of

adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to

stone such women. Now what do you

say?” 6 They were using this question as a

trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the

ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on

questioning him, he straightened up and said to

them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be

the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he

stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one

at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus

was left, with the woman still standing there.

10 Jesus straightened up and asked her,

“Woman, where are they? Has no one

condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus

declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

7 But we were gentle among you. We were

like a mother caring for her little

children. 8 We loved you so much that we

were happy to share with you God’s good

news. We were also happy to share our

lives with you. You had become very

special to us.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a

great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off

everything that hinders and the sin that so easily

entangles. And let us run with perseverance the

race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on

Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the

joy set before him he endured the

cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the

right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him

who endured such opposition from sinners, so

that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
