Sermon, “The Limits of Life-hacking: A DaoistExploration”May 26, 10:30a - We live in the age of the hacker. Whatever it is, someone can find a way

to do it faster, cheaper, more efficiently! But has this brought us any real happiness?

Where is the atomic age that was predicted where our machine-based society brought us

all more leisure and ease? The ancient practitioners of the Dao had a lot to say about

“usefulness” and “efficiency”. This morning, we’ll learn a small portion of what it was.

Successful

Los Gatos Creek Cleanup

Several volunteers from UUFLG helped clean the Los Gatos Creek Park as part of

National River Cleanup Day on May 18. They returned to their starting point with giant

garbage bags full of trash. Most of the trash was plastic in various forms, along with foil-

lined snack wrappers, cigarette butts, and a few cans and bottles. The cleanup was

successful, but it's sad that it was needed. The upshot: The birds, fish, and other wildlife

will enjoy their cleaner environment thanks to this work!

May's

Board Update

Greetings, beloved community! Here is a quick update on some of the things your UUFLG

governing board has been discussing.

The auction was a hoot and also very successful in raising funds for our cherished

fellowship. We are very grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen!

We are happy to report that the bathroom drain line has proved to be clear. The kitchen

drain line will be checked next.

There are plans for a major cleanup of the attic. If you are aware of any items there

whose importance will not be obvious, please let Rick Roberts or Ron Kirkland know they

should be kept. (Some of the stored items have suffered rodent damage over the years,

however, so may not be salvageable.)

The board wanted to clarify whether working groups need to obtain the approval of their

full committees before proposing or implementing actions. We determined that working

groups should be able to make their own decisions and submit proposals to the board,

copying their committees, unless there is a logical reason (pursuant to the fellowship’s

overall decision-making process) to get the full committee’s input in advance.

The RE classes would welcome more volunteers. You don’t have to be a current parent of

a young person to volunteer! Contact Sarah Ditzler if you are interested.

You can access the minutes of board meetings at the UUFLG website

(Administration/Administration and Governance/Board of Trustees Minutes). You are

also welcome to attend the meetings, which are usually held the second Tuesday of each

month at 7:00 in the office, and to ask your board members questions at any time! At

present, your trustees are Linda Osborne (president), Karen O’Brien (vice president), Lynn

Golbetz (secretary), Rick Roberts (treasurer), and Ron Kirkland (trustee at large).

Pranic Healing Free Clinic

Join Harsha Gola (Certified Associate Pranic Healer) at UUFLG for a Pranic

Healing® Clinic offered as a service to the community. Pranic Healing is a no-touch

healing modality developed by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui. It uses ‘Lifeforce’ or Prana

(Chi or Ki) to heal physical and emotional ailments.

Pranic Healing is a complementary (not alternative) healing modality, meant to enhance

your medical treatment, not replace it.

To make the most of your session, do not wear leather, silk or crystals to it.

Starting in June, Harsha will hold clinics every first and fourth Wednesday of the month at

the same time and place. Check the UUFLG online calendar to confirm clinics.

June 1, Saturday

Day in the RedwoodsUUFLG will hold its second annual “Day in the Redwoods” at Henry Cowell Redwoods

State Park, near Felton. This beautiful park features an accessible trail, the Redwood

Grove Loop Trail, many other trails, a Visitor Center with ecological and historic exhibits

of interest to all ages, and a Nature Store.

Highly recommended: a docent-led hike on the Redwood Grove Loop Trail, which begins

at 11a on Saturdays. To join the hike, meet at the Visitor Center shortly before 11:00. Bring

a picnic lunch, and perhaps a snack to share to the park and join other UUFLG friends for

lunch in Picnic Area 4.

Admission to the park is $10 per car, so carpooling is both economical and

environmental. Arriving before 11a is recommended for parking near the picnic area or

the Visitor Center; arriving by 10a means less traffic on Highway 17!

To reach the park from the San Jose area, take Highway 17 to Mt. Hermon Road, then take

Mt. Hermon Rd. west to Felton. Turn right on Graham Hill Road, and then left on

Highway 9. The park entrance will be on your left, less than a mile from the intersection

of Graham Hill and Highway 9. (Allow about one hour from San Jose to reach the park.)

See you at the park!

Sermon, “Beyond Toxic Patriarchy: TheSpectrum of Masculine Energy”

Even in our modern age, people still believe that "boys don't cry", and that "locker room

talk" is an acceptable euphemism for misogyny. It would be easy to believe that there's

just something wrong with men, but fortunately, there are healthier ways to express this

archetypal energy of "manhood"!

In line with June's theme of "The Father", we'll explore how to invoke the spiritual

qualities of the Masculine – qualities which our world so desperately needs. We'll

explore how we might relate to these energies in a world that is rapidly becoming "post-

binary", how to subvert toxic patriarchal energies, and how to nurture the profound

evolution of those identifying as men.
