    (A) Descriptive grammar

    A descriptivegrammar looks at the way a language is actuby its speakers and then attempts to analyze it and formulaabout the structure.

    Descriptive grammar does not deal with what is good or ba

    language use; forms and structures that might not be usedspeakers of Standard English would be regarded as valid aincluded.

    A functional grammar looks at the way in which grammar used to construct texts in their context of use. It is agrammar that analyses how language is used tocommunicate.

    It deals with:-

    analyzing experience - what is going on,

    analyzing interaction - who is communicating with whom.

    analyzing the ways in which messages are constructed.
