    Setting up your online Spanish workbook

    1. Go to www.books.quia.com . If you have never registered before click on getting started. If youare already a registered member, type in your Username and Password and click go to begin work.

    2. If you clicked getting started you should see this screen. Now clic Create a new account.

    3. Now fill in the information that is required and click submit.

    4. Now notice that the student is welcomed into the system (1). Now click on Enter a book key (2).

    5. Now you have two options. You can click where the green circle indicates or where the red circle indicates.Opting for the green circle will explain a little bit about the book key. The book key is simply a code that you mustbuy in order to utilize the on-line workbook. Therefore, you may want to bypass this option and simply click wherethe red circle indicates Bookstore. Either option will eventually lead you to the booksstore which is where youwill need to go to buy the book key. In addition, clicking where the red circle indicates will lead you to step 6.

    6. Find Spanish in the pull down menu, then type in the name of our on-line Spanish workbook, Puntos en breve,then click, search.

    7. Make sure you are buying the second edition, then click buy. Be aware: even though the picture looks likeour textbook, you are not buying an on-line version of our textbook, this does not exist, and furthermore, you arerequired to bring the paper version of the textbook to class with you. By clicking buy you will preparing to buythe on-line workbook (these pictures can be misleading and confusing).

    8. You will now be prompted to enter a course code. This code allows you to access your instructors specific classand will change for each instructor. Your instructor should give you this code. Once finished entering this code,click Next.

    9. Now you should be prompted to choose a specific class in which to enroll. Simply click on the circle next to theclass which applies to you. Since class times change, check with your instructor to make sure you are enrolling the

    correct class. Course number and pre-fix should be correct (e.g., SPA 201), even if class times are not.

    10. Next, click the check box certifying the validity of your identity, then click submit.

    11. Next, fill in the required information, including your credit card information and click next.

    12. You should see a confirmation screen similar to this one. Verify that your information has been writtencorrectly. Then click Submit, this will charge your account and your order will be processed. On the next screenyour Book key will appear.

    13. Make sure you write down your number. It should automatically be entered for you when you sign in, butanything can happen and you just paid forty some odd dollars for this number, so Id write it down. The number is

    good for twenty four months, so you should be able to use it throughout your lower division Spanish career.

    Using your on-line workbook

    1. Now, if you are not automatically re-directed to this page, go back to www.books.quia.com and log-in using yourUsername and Password. Then click go.

    2. After logging in, you should see a screen similar to this one, click on the pull down menu indicated with the redcircle. Choose the chapter that you are working on, then click, go.

    3. Now you will see a list of exercise categories. Activities are assigned for you to complete within each of these 6categories, click on each category and work on all of the assigned activities within the category in question. Here weassume that all of the assigned Vocabulario exercises have been completed as well as the assigned Pronunciaciny ortografa exercises, and we will continue with the Gramtica exercises. Click where it says Gramtica.

    4. The green circle indicates that not all exercises within a given category are assigned and required for you to complete. Here, forexample, we see that exercise 8.33D Los regalos is not assigned, nor is exercise 8.31D Formas verbales. All of the other exercisesare assigned. Now we will focus on exercise 8.31D Despus del examen.

    5. After submitting your answers, the on-line workbook gives you a lot of feedback. The book tells you the correct answer incomparison with your own answer (see the purple circle above). In addition, the workbook tells you how you did overall on theexercise as a whole (see the green circle above). In addition you have the option of trying the exercise again (see the red circle). If youare satisfied with your performance go back to the category list of exercises by clicking Go and begin working on the next assigned

    exercise.

    6. Work on one category at a time until you have completed all of the assigned exercises within each category, then, move onto the nextcategory. Some categories have more assigned exercises than others. The vocabulario and gramtica categories for example havemany assigned exercises, whereas Un poco de todo and Conozca have very few assigned exercises. Dont worry if your answersarent 100% correct. These exercises are designed to prepare you for quizzes and tests that will be graded more closely. These on-lineworkbook exercises are predominately graded on whether you have completed the assigned work or not. However, if you arerepeatedly scoring poorly, you may want to ask yourself if you truly understand the concepts that have been covered in class and in theworkbook. You may want to see a tutor, see your instructor during office hours or seek addition support.
