    The Seven Year Trial Part I

    TRUMPETS of Warning-Part Vlaid the groundwork for what I believe is now rapidly

    approaching this generation. The picture is becoming clearer, the signs speaking louder, thewinds of change blowing harder. And so, our Holy Father looks tenderly at us once again and

    says, "Hope" for the coming darkness will not triumph. This series of writings address

    the "seven year trial"which may be approaching.

    These meditations are the fruit of prayer in my own attempt to better understand the Churchteaching that the Body of Christ will follow its Head through its own passion or "final trial," as

    the Catechism puts it. Since the book of Revelation deals in part with this final trial, I have

    explored here a possible interpretation of St. Johns Apocalypse along the pattern of ChristsPassion. The reader should keep in mind that these are my own personal reflections and not a

    definitive interpretation of Revelation, which is a book with several meanings and dimensionsnot the least, an eschatological one. Many a good soul has fallen on the sharp cliffs of the

    Apocalypse. Nonetheless, I have felt the Lord compelling me to walk them in faith through thi

    series. I encourage the reader to exercise their own discernment, enlightened and guided, ofcourse, by the Magisterium.

    THE WORDS OF OUR LORD

    In the Sacred Gospels, Jesus speaks to the Apostles about the "end times," giving a picture of

    events that are both near and in the distant future. This "snapshot" includes both local events

    such as the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in 70A.D., as well as broader events such athe conflict between nations, the coming of an Antichrist, great persecutions etc. Jesus seems

    conflate events and timelines. Why?

    Jesus knew that the book of Daniel was sealed, not to be opened until "the time of the end" (D12:4). It was the Fathers will that only a "sketch" of things to come was to be given, and the

    details to be revealed in a future time. In this way, Christians of all times would continue to"watch and pray."

    I believe the book of Daniel has been unsealed, and its pages are turning over now, one by one

    our understanding deepening day by day on a "need to know" basis.

    DANIELS WEEK

    The Book of Daniel speaks of an Antichrist figure who appears to establish his rule over the

    world for a "week."

    And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week; and for half of the week he sh

    cause sacrifice and offering to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one who

    makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator. (Dan 9:27)

    In the Old Testament symbolism, the number "seven" representscompleteness. In this case,

    Gods just and complete judgment of the living (not the Last Judgment), will be permitted inpart through this "desolator." The "half-week" Daniel refers to is the same symbolic number

    ofthree and a half years used in Revelation to describe the time of this Antichrist figure.

    The beast was given a mouth uttering proud boasts and blasphemies, and it was given authori

    to act for forty-two months. (Rev 13:5)

    So the "week" is equivalent to "seven years."

    We see types of this seven year period throughout the Sacred Scriptures. Most relevant is thetime of Noah when, seven days prior to the flooding, God brings him and his family into the a

    (Gen 7:4). I believe the Illumination will begin the proximate time of the Seven Year

    Trialwhich consists of two three and half year periods. This is the beginning ofthe Day of thLord, the beginning of the Judgment of the living, starting with the Church. The door of the A

    will remain open, even possibly during the period of Antichrist (though St. John indicatesthroughout the period of Antichrist and accompanying chastisements that the people would n

    repent), but will close at the end of the Trialafter the Jews have converted. Then will commen

    the Judgment of the unrepentant in aflood of fire.

    For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, h

    will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God? (1 Peter 4:17)

    THE TWO HARVESTS

    Revelation refers to two harvests. First, theHarvest of Grainwhich Jesus placed, not at the en

    of the world, but at the end of the age.

    Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one sitting on the

    cloud, "Use your sickle and reap the harvest, for the time to reap has come, because the

    earths harvest is fully ripe." So the one who was sitting on the cloud swung his sickle ovthe earth, and the earth was harvested. (Rev 14:15-16)

    I believe this is the first three and a half year period accompanying the Illumination. The

    remnant will swing the sickle of the Word of God, announcing the Gospel, and gathering thoswho accept His mercy into the Ark into His "barn."

    However, not all will convert. Thus, this period will also serve to sift the weeds from the wheat

    if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow togethe

    until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds

    tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn The harvest is the end

    the age, and the harvesters are angels. (Matt 13:29-30, 39)

    The weeds are those apostates who remain in the Church yet rebel against Christ and his vicar

    on earth, the Holy Father. The apostasy we are living in now will manifest openly in

    a schismcreated by those who do not convert through the Illumination.The ComingCounterfeitwill serve as the sieve which will "collect" those who refuse to accept Jesus, the

    Truth, from His followers. This is the Great Apostasy which will prepare the way for the LawleOne.

    Those who accept Jesus will be marked by His holy angels, the harvesters:

    After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the fo

    winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on land or sea or against any tree. Then I s

    another angel come up from the East, holding the seal of the living God. He cried out in a

    voice to the four angels who were given power to damage the land and the sea, "Do not damag

    the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of

    God. (Rev 7:1-3)

    Now you see why we are feeling the winds of change in the natural realm throughmanifestations of powerful storms: we are nearing the Day of the Lord when the time of Merc

    ends and the days of Justice begin! Then, the angels at the four corners of the earth will be fureleased for the judgment of those who are not sealed. This is the second reaping, theHarves

    of Grapesa judgment upon the unrepentant nations.

    Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven who also had a sharp sickle "Use your

    sharp sickle and cut the clusters from the earths vines, for its grapes are ripe." So the

    angel swung his sickle over the earth and cut the earths vintage. He threw it into the gre

    wine press of Gods fury. (Rev 14:18-19)

    This second harvest begins with the latter three and a half years during the open reign of

    Antichrist, and culminates in the purification of all wickedness from the earth. For it is duringthis time that Daniel says the desolator will abolish the daily sacrifice, that is, the Holy Mass.

    This will bring about a travail upon the earth never experienced before in both nature and the

    spiritual realm. As St. Pio put it:

    It is easier for the earth to be without the sun than without the Mass.

    I am writing to you this week from the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec,Canada. The symbol of this Congress is none other than "The Ark of the New Covenant." It is

    no coincidence that Divine Providence has led me to publish the remainder of this series from

    here. For God is gathering us now into the Ark, who is Mary and His Church, to carry usthrough the Great Storm until He purifies the earth for the universal reign of Jesus in the Ho

    I want to speak from the heart for a moment to frame the rest of this series.

    The past three years have been a remarkable journey for me, one I never intended to embark

    upon. I do not claim to be prophet just a simple missionary who feels a call to shed a littlemore light upon the days we live in and the days which are coming. Needless to say, this has

    been an overwhelming task, and one which is done with much fear and trembling. At least tha

    much I share with the prophets! But it is also done with the tremendous prayer support so maof you have graciously offered on my behalf. I feel it. I need it. And I am so grateful.

    The events of the end times, as revealed to the prophet Daniel, were to be sealed up until the

    time of the end. Even Jesus did not open those seals for his disciples, and restricted himself togiving certain warnings and pointing to certain signs that would come. We are not wrong, then

    in watching for these signs since our Lord instructed us to do so when He said, "watch andpray," and again,

    When you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. (Luke 21:31)

    The Church Fathers in turn gave us chronologies which filled in the blanks somewhat. In our

    times, God has sent many prophets, including His Mother, calling mankind to prepare for gretribulations and ultimately, a great Triumph, further illuminating the "signs of the times."

    Through an interior call helped by prayer and certain lights which have come to me, I havedeveloped in writing what I feel the Lord is asking of menamely, to set forth a chronology of

    events based upon Christs Passion, since it is Church teaching that His Body will follow in Hi

    footsteps (Catechism of theCatholic Church677). This chronology, as I discovered, flows paral

    to St. Johns vision in Revelation. What develops is a sequence of events from Scripture whichresonate with authentic prophecy. However, we should remember that we see dimly as inmirrorand timing is a mystery. Furthermore, Scripture has a way of repeating itself like a

    spiral, and thus, can be interpreted and applied to all generations.

    I do see dimly. I dont know these things for certain, but offer them according to the lights whihave been given me, as discerned through spiritual direction, and in total submission to the

    wisdom of the Church.

    OF LABOR PAINS

    Just as a pregnant woman experiences false labor throughout her pregnancy, so too has the

    world experienced false labor pains since the Ascension of Christ. Wars, famines, and plagueshave come and gone. False labor pains, including nausea and fatigue, may last the entire nine

    months of pregnancy. In fact, they are the bodys long-range way of preparing for the ordeal

    ofreallabor. But the real labor pains last onlyhours, a relatively short time.

    Often a sign that a woman has begun true labor is that her "waters break. " So too, the oceanshave begun to rise, and waters have broken our shorelines in the contractions of nature (think

    Hurricane Katrina, the Asian Tsunami, Mynamar, the recent Iowa flood, etc.) And so fierce ar

    the labor pains that a woman experiences, they will cause her body to tremble and shake. So tothe earth is beginning to shake in growing frequency and intensity, "groaning" as St. Paul puts

    it, awaiting the "revelation of the children of God" (Rom 8:19).

    I believe that the labor pains the world is experiencing now are the real thing, the beginnings

    ofhard labor. It is the birthing of the "full number of Gentiles." The Woman of Revelation givbirth to this "male child" paving the way for all Israel to be saved.

    The "full inclusion" of the Jews in the Messiahs salvation, in the wake of "the full number of the Gentiles", will enable

    the People of God to achieve "the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ", in which "God may be all in all".

    This is a serious time we have entered, a time to remain sober and alert as the labor pains

    intensify and the Church begins her descent down the birth canal.

    THE BIRTH CANAL

    I believe the Illumination marks the proximate beginning of the"Seven Year Trial." It is going

    come in a time of chaos, that is, during the hard labor of the Seals of Revelation.

    As I wrote in The Breaking of the Seals, I believe the First Seal has already been broken.

    I looked, and there was a white horse, and its rider had a bow. He was given a crown, and h

    rode forth victorious to further his victories. (Rev 6:2)

    That is, many are already experiencing an Illumination or awakening in their souls as the Ridwhom Pope Pius XII identifies as Jesus, pierces their hearts with the arrows of love and mercy

    claiming many victories. Soon, this Rider will manifest Himself to the world. But first, the oth

    Seals are to be broken beginning with the Second:

    Another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take peace away from the ea

    so that people would slaughter one another. And he was given a huge sword. (Rev 6:4)

    This outbreak of violence and chaos in the form of war and insurrections and their subsequenconsequences is the chastisement, which man brings upon himself, as was foretold by Blessed

    Anna Maria Taigi:

    God will send two punishments: one will be in the form of wars, revolutions, and other evils; it shall originat

    on earth. The other will be sent from Heaven. Catholic Prophecy, Yves Dupont, Tan Books (1970), p. 44-45

    And let us not say that it is God who is punishing us in this way; on the contrary it is people themselves who a

    preparing their own punishment. In his kindness God warns us and calls us to the right path, while respectin

    the freedom he has given us; hence people are responsible. Sr. Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries, in a letter to th

    Holy Father, May 12th, 1982.

    The following seals seem to be the fruits of the Second: the Third Seal is brokeneconomic

    collapse and food rationing; the Fourth, plague, famine, and more violence; the Fifth, morepersecution of the Churchall seemingly consequences of the breakdown of society following

    the war. This persecution of Christians, I believe, will be the fruit of martial law which will beinstated in many countries as a "national security" measure. But this will be used as a front to"round up" those who are creating "civil disturbance." Also, without going into detail, the sour

    of the famines and plagues could be natural or of dubious origins, engineered by those whoconsider "population control" their mandate.

    There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome

    sights and mighty signs will come from the sky. (Luke 21:11)

    Then, the Sixth Seal is broken"signs from the sky":

    I watched while he broke open the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; the sun tur

    as black as dark sackcloth and the whole moon became like blood. The stars in the sky fell

    the earth like unripe figs shaken loose from the tree in a strong wind. (Rev 6: 12-13)

    THE SIXTH SEAL

    What happens next sounds very much like the Illumination:

    Then the sky was divided like a torn scroll curling up, and every mountain and island was m

    from its place. The kings of the earth, the nobles, the military officers, the rich, the

    powerful, and every slave and free person hid themselves in caves and among mountain crags

    They cried out to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of the

    who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, because the great day of their wrath

    come and who can withstand it?" (Rev 6:14-17)

    The mystics tell us that for some people, this Illumination or Warning will be like a "judgment

    in miniature," facing as it were the "wrath of God" so as to correct their consciences. The visioof the Cross, which causes such distress and shame upon the inhabitants of the earth, is that o

    "a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain" (Rev 5:6).

    Then a great sign of the cross will appear in the sky. From the openings from where the hands and feet of the

    I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace

    petition; and they shall look on him whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him a

    one mourns for an only son, and they shall grieve over him as one grieves over a first-born

    (Zech 12:10-11)

    Indeed, the Illumination warns of the approaching Day of the Lordwhen Christ will come "lik

    a thief in the night" to judge theliving. Just as an earthquake accompanied the death of Jesus the Cross, so too the Illumination of the Cross in the sky will be accompanied by a Great

    Shaking.

    THE GREAT SHAKING

    We see this Great Shaking occur when Jesus enters Jerusalem for His Passion. He was greeted

    with palm branches and shouts of "Hosanna to the Son of David." So too, St. John also has a

    vision after the Sixth Seal is broken in which he sees a multitude of people holdingpalmbranches and crying out "Salvation comes from our God."

    But it wasnt until Jerusalem shook that everyone else came out wondering who this man was

    And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, "Who is this?" And the

    crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee." (Matt 21:10)

    So too many people, having been awakened by this Illumination, will be startled and confused

    and will ask, "Who is this?" This is the new evangelization for which we are being prepared.But it will also begin a new stage ofconfrontation. While the remnant of believers shouts that

    Jesus is the Messiah, others will say He is merely a prophet. In this passage from Matthew, wesee a hint of the Battle, ofThe Coming Counterfeitwhen New Age false prophets will sow false

    claims about Christ, and thus, His Church.

    But there will be an additional sign to help believers: the Woman of Revelation.

    THE ILLUMINATION AND THE WOMAN

    As Mary stood beneath the Cross the first time, so too, she will be present beneath the Cross othe Illumination.Thus the Sixth Seal and Revelation 11:19 appear to describe the same eventfrom two different perspectives:

    Then Gods temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the

    temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, anearthquake, and

    violent hailstorm.

    The original ark of the covenant constructed by David was hidden in a cave by the prophetJeremiah. He said the hiding place would not be revealed until a particular time in the future:

    The place is to remain unknown until God gathers his people together again andshows them

    mercy. (2 Macc 2:7)

    The Illumination is the Hour of Mercy, part of the Day of Mercy which precedes the Day of

    Justice.And in that merciful hour we will see the Ark in Gods temple.

    Mary, in whom the Lord himself has just made his dwelling, is the daughter of Zion in person, the ark of the covenant

    the place where the glory of the Lord dwells. Catechism of the Catholic Church, n.2676

    WHY MARY?

    The Ark of the New Covenant, Mary, is seen in the temple; but standing at its center is, ofcourse, the Lamb of God:

    Then I saw standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and the elder,

    Lamb standing, as though it had been slain. (Rev 5:6)

    Why doesnt St. John focus more upon the Lamb than the Ark? The answer is that Jesus has

    already confronted the Dragon and won. St. Johns Apocalypse is written to prepare the

    Church for her own Passion. Now His Body the Church, also symbolized by the Woman, is toconfront this Dragon, crushing its head as was prophesied:

    I will put enmities between you and the woman, and your seed and her seed: she shall crush

    head, and you shall lie in wait for her heel. (Gen 3:15; Douay-Rheims)

    The Woman is both Mary and the Church. And Mary is

    the first Church and Eucharistic woman. Cardinal Marc Ouellet,Magnificat: Opening Celebration and Spiritual

    St. Johns vision is ultimately the Triumph of the Church, which is the Triumph of the

    Immaculate Heart and Sacred Heart of Jesus, although the triumph of the Church will not be

    completely fufilled until the end of time:

    The triumph of Christs kingdom will not come about without one last assault by the powers of evil.CCC, 680

    JESUSAND MARY

    Thus, we find this dual sign of Mary and the Cross prefigured in modern times since she firstappeared to Catherine Labour and asked for the Miraculous Medal to be struck (below left).

    Mary is on the front of the medal with the light of Christstreaming from her hands and from

    behind her; on the back of the medal is the Cross.

    Compare the way she allegedly appeared to Ida Peerdeman over 50 years later in an image (on

    the right) which has received official Church approval:

    These images of Mary are powerful symbols of the "final confrontation" which lies before theChurch: her own passion, death, and glorification:

    The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his

    death and Resurrection. Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 677

    Thus, the Illumination is a sign to the Church that her Great Trial has come, but more so, thathervindication is dawning that she herself is the dawn of the new Era.

    The Church, which comprises the elect, is fittingly styled daybreak or dawn It will be fully day for her when

    she shines with the perfect brilliance of interior light . St. Gregory the Great, Pope;Liturgy of the Hours, Vol III, p. 3

    (see also The Smoldering Candle andWedding Preparationsto understand the coming corporate mystical union, which will b

    preceded by a "dark night of the soul" for the Church.)

    This fittingly describes the Era of Peace, or "day of rest" when Christ reigns through His

    saints interiorly in a deep mystical union.

    PART III examines the beginning of the Seven Year Trial following the Illuminatio

    THE GREAT SIGN

    When the angel had descended I beheld above him a great shining cross in the heavens. On it hun

    the Savior from whose Wounds shot brilliant rays over the whole earth. Those glorious wounds we

    red their center gold-yellow He wore no crown of thorns, but from all the Wounds of His Head

    streamed rays. Those from His Hands, Feet, and Side were fine as hair and shone with rainbow

    colors; sometimes they were all united and fell upon villages, cities, and houses throughout the

    world I also saw a shining red heart floating in the air. From one side flowed a current of white

    ight to the Wound of the Sacred Side, and from the other a second current fell upon the Church in

    many regions; its rays attracted numerous souls who, by the Heart and the current of light, entere

    nto the Side of Jesus. I was told that this was the Heart of Mary. Beside these rays, I saw from all

    The Sacred Heart of Jesus wants the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be venerated at His side. Lucia

    Speaks, III Memoir, World Apostolate of Fatima, Washington, NJ: 1976; p.137

    Many modern mystics and seers say that a great "miracle" or "permanent sign" wfollow the Illumination which will then be followed by a chastisement from Heavents severity depending upon the response to these graces. The Church Fathershavent spoken directly of this sign. However, I believe Scripture has.

    After seeing the temple opened, St. John goes on to write:

    A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her fee

    and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rev 12:1)

    St. John refers to this "great sign" as the Woman. Blessed Catherines vision seemto describe at first the Illumination and then a Marian sign attached to it. Keep inmind that Rev 11:19 (the Ark) and 12:1 (the Woman) are artificially separated by chapter break which St. John did not insert himself. The text itself flows naturallyfrom the Ark to the Great Sign, but the insertion of chapter numbering for SacredScripture began in the Middle Ages. The Ark and the Great Sign may simply be onvision.

    Whatever the Great Sign is, I believe it will be Eucharistic in natureaforeshadowing of the Eucharistic reign during the Era of Peace. Blessed Catherinesaid:

    Was this the sign that Jesus spoke of?

    I say to you, you will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on

    Son of Man. (John 1:51)

    This is a reference to Jacobs dream in which he saw a ladder reaching up to theheavens and angels going up and down it. It is significant what he says uponwaking:

    Truly, the Lord is in this spot, although I did not know it!" In solemn wonder he cried out

    "How awesome is this shrine! This is nothing else but an abode of God, and that is the gate

    to heaven!" (Gen 28:16-17)

    The gateway to heaven is the Eucharist (John 6:51). And many, particularly ourEvangelical brothers and sisters, will exclaim in wonder before the altars of ourchurches, "Truly, the Lord is in this spot although I did not know it!" There will alsobe many tears of joy as they realize that they too have a Mother.

    The "great sign" in the sky, the Woman clothed with the Sun, is likely a dualreference to Mary as well as the Church bathed in the light of the Eucharistaiteral visible sign in some regions, and perhaps upon many altars. Did St. Faustinhave visions of this?

    THE SEVENTH SEAL

    After the Sixth Seal is broken, there is a pauseit is the Eye of the Storm. Godgives the earths inhabitants an opportunity to pass through the Door of Mercy, toenter the Ark, before those who refuse to repent must pass through the Door ofustice:

    After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the fowinds of the earth so that no wind could blow on land or sea or against any tree. Then I s

    another angel come up from the East, holding the seal of the living God. He cried out in a

    voice to the four angels who were given power to damage the land and the sea, "Do not damag

    the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of

    God." I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-

    thousand marked from every tribe of the Israelites. (Rev 7:1-4)

    Since Mary is a type of the Church, what applies to her applies to the Church aswell. Thus, when I say we are being gathered into the Ark, it means first, that we

    are being brought into the sanctuary and safety of our Mothers heart, the way ahen gathers her chicks beneath her wings. But she gathers us there, not for hersebut for and around her Son. So secondly, it means that God will gather all thosewho respond to this time of mercy into the one, true, holy and apostolic Ark: theCatholic Church. It is built on ROCK. The waves will come, but they will not prevailagainst her foundations. The truth, which she guards and proclaims, will besafeguarded for herself and for the world during the coming storms. Thus, the Arks both Mary and the Churchsafety, refuge, and protection.

    As I wrote in The Seven Year Trial Part I, this period after the Illumination is theGreat Harvest of souls and liberation of many from the power of Satan. It is duringthis time that Satan is cast from the heavens to the earth by St. Michael theArchangel (the "heavens" in this passage refers to the realms above the materialworld, not Paradise as such.) This Exorcism of the Dragon, this cleansing of theheavens, is also, I believe, within the Seventh Seal. And thus, there is silence inheaven before the Storm begins to rage again:

    When he broke open the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for abouthalf an hour. (Re

    8:1)

    This silence is both real and a false peace. That is because "another sign" appearsafter the great sign of the Woman: a Dragon with "ten horns" (see The ComingCounterfeit). Revelation 17:2 says:

    The tens horns that you saw represent ten kings who have not yet been crowned; they will

    receive royal authority along with the beast forone hour.

    Thus, a false peace begins, lasting "about half an hour" or three and a half years athe New World Order is established as a kingdom until the Antichrist takes histhrone in the last half of the Seven Year Trial.

    A FOOTNOTE

    The Illumination is also referred to as "the Warning." Thus, the surrounding

    phenomena accompanying this event will be similar, but not as intense as thosewhich manifest at the peak of Antichrists reign. The Illumination is a warning ofGods judgment which will come laterin full force for those who refuse to passthrough the Door of Mercy, as we read in this passage:

    Yes, Lord God almighty, your judgments are true and just The seventh angel poured out his

    into the air. A loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, "It is done." Th

    there werelightning flashes, rumblings, and peals of thunder, and a great earthquakeGod

    remembered great Babylon, giving it the cup filled with the wine of his fury and wrath. (Re

    16:7, 17-19)

    Again, lightning flashes, rumblings, peals of thunder etc. as if the temple in heavehas been opened again. Indeed, Jesus appears, this time not in warning, but inudgment:

    Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was called "Faithful

    True." (Rev 19:11)

    He is followed by all those who remained faithful to Him-the "son" whom theWoman gave birth to during the Seven Year Trial who was "destined to rule all thenations with an iron rod" (Rev 12:5). This judgment is the second Harvest,the Harvest of Grapes or blood.

    The armies of heaven followed him, mounted on white horses and wearing clean white linen. O

    of his mouth came a sharp sword to strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod,

    he himself will tread out in the wine press the wine of the fury and wrath of God the almig

    He has a name written on his cloak and on his thigh, "King of kings and Lord of lords." Th

    beast was caught and with it the false prophet who had performed in its sight the signs by

    which he led astray those who had accepted the mark of the beast and those who had worshipe

    its image. The two were thrown alive into the fiery pool burning with sulfur. The rest were

    killed by the sword that came out of the mouth of the one riding the horse, and all the bi

    The Era of Peace that follows the vanquishing of the Beast and the False Prophet the reign of Jesus with His saintsthe mystical union of Head and Body in the

    Divine Will before the return of Christ in the flesh at the end of time for the Finaludgment.

    During Mass this past Passion Sunday, I sensed the Lord urging me to repost aportion of the Seven Year Trial where it essentially begins with the Passion of the

    Church. Once again, these meditations are the fruit of prayer in my own attempt tbetter understand the Churchs teaching that the Body of Christ will follow its Hea

    through its own passion or "final trial," as the Catechism puts it(CCC, 677). Sincethe book of Revelation deals in part with this final trial, I have explored here apossible interpretation of St. Johns Apocalypse along the pattern of Christs

    Passion. The reader should keep in mind that these are my own personal reflectioand not a definitive interpretation of Revelation, which is a book with several

    meanings and dimensions, not the least, an eschatological one. Many a good soul

    has fallen on the sharp cliffs of the Apocalypse. Nonetheless, I have felt the Lord

    compelling me to walk them in faith through this series, drawing together theChurchs teaching with mystical revelation and the authoritative voice of the Holy

    Fathers. I encourage the reader to exercise their own discernment, enlightened anguided, of course, by the Magisterium.

    The series is based on the book of Daniels prophecy that there will be a "week"

    long trial for Gods people. The Book of Revelation seems to echo this where an

    antichrist appears for "three and a half years." Revelation is full of numbers andsymbols which most often are symbolic. Seven may indicate perfection, whereas

    three and a half indicates a shortfall of perfection. It also symbolizes a "short"period of time. So, in reading this series, keep in mind that the numbers and figur

    used by St. John may only be symbolic.

    Rather than send an email to you when the remaining parts of this series are

    posted, I will just re-post the remaining parts, one per day, for the rest of this weeSimply return to this website each day this week, and watch and pray with me. It

    seems appropriate that we meditate not only on the Passion of Our Lord, but thecoming Passion of His body, which appears to be drawing nearer and nearer

    FOLLOWING OUR MASTER

    Lord Jesus, you foretold that we would share in the persecutions that brought you to a violent

    We have followed Jesus from the Transfiguration to the city of Jerusalem where Hes ultimately to be sentenced to death. Comparatively, this is the period we areiving in now, where many souls are waking up to the glory that will come in the Eof Peace, but also to the Passion which precedes it.

    Christs arrival in Jerusalem is analogous to a "universal" awakening, theGreatShaking, when through an Illumination of conscience, all will know that Jesus is thSon of God. Then they must choose to either worship or crucify Himthat is, tofollow Him in His Church, or to reject her.

    THE CLEANSING OF THE TEMPLE

    After Jesus entered Jerusalem, He cleansed the temple.

    Each of our bodies is "a temple of the Holy Spirit" (1 Cor 6:19). When the light ofthe Illumination comes into our souls, it will begin to scatter the darknessa cleansing of our hearts. The Church is also a temple made up of "living stones,"that is, each baptized Christian (1 Pet 2:5) built upon the foundation of the Apostle

    and the prophets. This corporate temple will be cleansed by Jesus as well:

    For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17)

    After He cleansed the temple, Jesus preached so boldly that the people were"amazed" and "astonished at his teaching." So too will the remnant, led by the HoFather, attract many souls to Christ through the power and authority of theirpreaching, which will be invigorated through an outpouring of the Spirit with thellumination. It will be a time of healing, deliverance, and repentance. But not

    everyone will be attracted.

    There were many authorities whose hearts were hardened and refused to acceptesus teaching. He denounced these scribes and Pharisees, exposing them for thecharlatans they were. So too will the Faithful be called upon to expose the lies ofthe false prophets, those within and without the Churchthe New Age prophets afalse messiahsand warn them of the impending Day of Justice if they do notrepent during this "silence" of the Seventh Seal:

    Silence in the presence of the Lord GOD!for near is the day of the LORD near and very swi

    coming a day of trumpet blasts (Zep 1:7, 14-16)

    appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon Its tail swept away a third of the stars in

    sky and hurled them down to the earth. (Rev 12:2-4)

    This "third of the stars" has been interpreted as a third of the clergy or hierarchy. s this Cleansing of the Temple which culminates in the Exorcism of theDragonfrom the heavens (Rev 12:7).

    Heaven is the Church which in the night of this present life, the while it possesses in itself the

    countless virtues of the saints, shines like the radiant heavenly stars; but the dragons tail sweep

    the stars down to the earth The stars which fall from heaven are those who have lost hope in

    heavenly things and covet, under the devils guidance, the sphere of earthly glory. St. Gregory th

    THE FIG TREE

    n Scripture, the fig tree is a symbol of Israel (or figuratively the Christian Churchwhich is the new Israel.) In the Gospel of Matthew, immediately after cleansing thtemple, Jesus cursed a fig tree which had leaves but no fruit:

    May no fruit ever come from you again. (Matt 21:19)

    With that, the tree began to wither.

    My Father takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit. If a man does not abide

    me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into th

    fire and burned. (John 15:1-2, 6)

    The Cleansing of the Temple is the removal of all unfruitful, unrepentant, deceptivand compromising branches in the Church (cf. Rev 3:16). They will be sifted,removed, and counted as one of the Beasts own. They will fall under the cursewhich belongs to all those who have rejected the Truth:

    Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see lif

    but the wrath of God remains upon him. (John 3:36)

    Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie, that all

    have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned. (2 Thess 2:11-12

    THE TIME OF THE MEASURING

    St. John speaks directly of this sifting of the weeds from the wheat, which seems ttake place particularly during the first half of the Seven Year Trial. It is also TheTime of The Measuring, followed by the latter period when Antichrist will reign for42 months.

    Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff, and I was told: "Rise and measure the temple

    God and the altar and those who worship there; but do not measure the court outside the tem

    leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample over the holy c

    for forty-two months. (Rev 11:1-2)

    St. John is called to measure, not a building, but soulsthose who worship at Godaltar in "spirit and truth," leaving aside those who dontthe "outer court." We sethis precise measuring alluded to elsewhere when the angels finish sealing "theforeheads of the servants of God" before judgment begins to fall:

    I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four

    thousand marked from every tribe of the Israelites. (Rev 7:4)

    Again, "Israel" is a symbol of the Church. It is significant that St. John leaves out thtribe of Dan, presumably because it fell into idolatry(Judges 17-18). For those whreject Jesus in this Time of Mercy, and instead put their trust in the New WorldOrder and its pagan idolatry, will forfeit the seal of Christ. They will be stamped wthe name or mark of the Beast "on their right hands or their foreheads" (Rev13:16).

    t follows then that the number "144, 000" may be a reference to the "full numberof Gentiles" since the measuring is to be precise:

    a hardening has come upon Israel in part, untilthe full numberof the Gentiles comes in, an

    thus all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25-26)

    THE SEALING OF THE JEWS

    This measuring and marking likely includes the Jewish people as well. The reasonbeing that they are a people who already belong to God, destined to receive His

    promise of a "time of refreshment." In his address to the Jews, St. Peter says:

    Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away, and that the Lord ma

    grant you times of refreshment and send you the Messiah already appointed for you, Jesus, w

    heaven must receive until the times ofuniversal restoration - of which God spoke through t

    mouth of his holy prophets from of old. (Acts 3:1-21)

    During the Seven Year Trial, God will preserve a remnant of the Jewish peopledestined for the "universal restoration" which begins, according to the ChurchFathers, with an Era of Peace:

    I have left for myself seven thousand men who have not knelt to Baal. So also at the presen

    time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. (Rom 11:4-5)

    After seeing the 144, 000, St. John has a vision of a much greater multitude

    which could not be counted (cf. Rev 7:9). It is a vision of Heaven, and all those whrepented and believed the Gospel, Jews and Gentiles. The key point here is torecognize that God is marking souls now and for a short time after the IlluminatioThose who feel they can leave their lamps half-empty risk forfeiting their seat at tbanquet table.

    But wicked people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. (2 Tim

    3:13)

    THE FIRST 1260 DAYS

    believe that the Church will be both embraced and persecuted during the first haof the Trial, though the persecution will not become outright bloody until Antichristakes his throne. Many will be angry and hate the Church for standing her groundthe Truth, while others will love her for proclaiming the Truth which sets them free

    Although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him

    prophet. (Matt 21:46)

    ust as they could not seem to arrest Him, so too the Church will not be conqueredby the Dragon during the first 1260 days of the Seven Year Trial.

    When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had

    given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so

    that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken

    of for a year, two years, and a half-year. (Rev 12:13-14)

    But with the Great Apostasy in full bloom and the lines clearly drawn between Godorder and the New World Order which began with a peace agreement or "strongcovenant" with the ten kings of Daniel whom Revelation also calls "the beast", theway will be prepared for the "man of lawlessness."

    Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to meet him Let no o

    of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition (2 Thess 2: 1-3)

    THIS writing examines the transition between the first and second half of the

    Seven Year Trial.

    We have been following Jesus along His Passion, which is a pattern for the Churchpresent and coming Great Trial. Furthermore, this series aligns His Passion to theBook of Revelation which is, on one of its many levels of symbolism, aHighMass being offered in Heaven: the representation of Christs Passion asboth sacrifice and victory.

    esus enters Jerusalem, preaching boldly, cleansing the temple, and seeminglywinning over many souls. But at the same time, there are false prophets among

    them, confusing His identity in the minds of many, claiming that Jesus is just aprophet, and plotting His destruction. From what I can tell, it is three and a halfdays from the moment of Christs triumphal entry into Jerusalem until the Passove

    THE LAST SUPPER

    believe one of the great graces which will be born of the Illumination and GreatSign, indeed the Woman clothed with the sun, is unityamong the faithfulCatholics, Protestants, and Orthodox (see The Coming Wedding). This remnant wiunite themselves around the Holy Eucharist, inspired and enlightened by the GreaSign and its accompanying Eucharistic miracles. There will be a fervor, zeal, andpower flowing from these Christians as in the days of Pentecost. It is precisely thisunified worship of and witness to Jesus which draws out the wrath of the Dragon.

    Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of he

    offspring, those who keep Gods commandments and bear witness to Jesus. (Rev 12:17)

    The faithful remnant unite in their own "last supper" before this Great PersecutionAfter the Seventh Seal is broken, St. John records part of this Liturgy in theHeavens:

    Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a gold censer. He was given a great quan

    of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that wa

    before the throne. The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up

    before God from the hand of the angel. (Rev 8:3-4)

    t sounds like the Offertorythe offering of gifts. It is the remnant, the holy ones,offering themselves completely to God, even unto death. The angel is offering the"Eucharistic prayers" of the holy ones who are placing themselves upon theHeavenly altar to "complete what is lacking in Christs afflictions for the sake of hibody" (Col 1:24). This offering, though it will not convert Antichrist, may convertsome of those who carry out the persecution.

    The Church will repeat the words of Jesus who said at His Last Supper,

    I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kin

    of God. (Mark 14:25)

    And perhaps the faithful remnant will drink this new wine in thetemporal kingdomduring the Era of Peace.

    THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

    The Garden of Gethsemane is the moment when the Church will fully comprehendthat, despite her greatest efforts, the road which leads to Heaven is narrow and feare those who take it:

    Because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world h

    persecuted me, they will also persecute you. (John 15:19-20)

    t will be clear to her that the world is about to turn against heren masse. But Chrwill not abandon His Bride! We will be given the comfort of one anothers presencand prayers, the encouragement of seeing the sacrificial witness of others, thentercession of the Saints, the help of the Angels, the Blessed Mother, and the hol

    Rosary; also the inspiration of the Great Sign which remains and cannot bedestroyed, the outpouring of the Spirit, and of course, the Holy Eucharist, whereveMasses can be said. The apostles of these days will be powerful, or rather,wonderfully empowered. I believe we will be given an interior joy as were themartyrs from St. Stephen, to Ignatius of Antioch, to the modern day souls who arecontinually offering their lives for Christ. These graces are all symbolized in theangel who came to Jesus in the Garden:

    And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him. (Luke 22:43)

    t is then that "Judas" will betray the Church.

    THE RISE OF JUDAS

    udas is a prefigurement of the Antichrist. Aside from calling Judas a "devil," Jesusaddresses His betrayer with the same title that St. Paul used in describing theAntichrist:

    I have guarded them, and none of them is lost butthe son of perdition, that the scripture mi

    be fulfilled. (John 17:12; cf. 2 Thess 2:3)

    As I wrote in Part I, the Seven Year Trial or "Daniels week" begins with a peaceagreement between Antichrist and "the many" at some point proximate to thellumination. Some scholars suggest it is a peace agreement with Israel, though thtext in New Testament times may suggest simply many nations.

    During the first three and a half years of the Trial, the Antichrist s plans will appe

    at first as amicable to all religions and peoples so as to delude the greatest numbof souls, especiallyChristians. This is the torrent of deception that Satan spews atthe Woman-Church:

    This present and coming deception has been the repeated warning throughout mywritings.

    For even Antichrist, when he shall begin to come, shall not enter into the Church because he

    His speech was smoother than butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than o

    yet they were drawn swords he violated his covenant. (Psalm 55:21, 20)

    ust how prominent Antichrist will be during the first three and a half years, wedont know. Perhaps his presence will be known, but somewhat in the backgroundust as Judas remained in the backgrounduntil he betrayed Christ. Indeed,according to Daniel, the Antichrist suddenly steps forward and breaks his covenanhalfway through the "week."

    Judas came and immediately went over to Jesus and said, "Rabbi." And he kissed him. At this

    they laid hands on him and arrested him and [the disciples] left him and fled. (Mark 14:

    Daniel paints a picture of this Judas who slowly extends his power throughout theworld until he claims global dominance. He rises out of the "ten horns" or "kings"which appeared on the Dragonthe New World Order.

    Out of one of them came a little horn which kept growing toward the south, the east, and th

    glorious country. Its power extended to the host of heaven, so that it cast down to earth

    of the host and some of the stars and trampled on them (cf. Rev 12:4). It boasted even aga

    the prince of the host, from whom it removed the daily sacrifice, and whose sanctuary it ca

    down, as well as the host, while sin replaced the daily sacrifice.It cast truth to the grou

    and was succeeding in its undertaking.(Dan 8:9-12)

    ndeed, we will see the culmination of what we are experiencing now: that which itrue will be called false, and that which is false will said to be truth. Along with theabolition of the Eucharist, it is this obscuration of Truth which also forms part ofthe Eclipse of the Son.

    THE GREAT SCATTERING

    This Judas will suddenly change his platitudes from peacemaking topersecution.

    t is perhaps then that a most painful moment will arrive for the Church. Manymystics and Church Fathers speak of a time when, like Jesus in the Garden ofGethsemane, the shepherd of the Church, the Holy Father, will be struck. Perhapsthis is central to the "final trial which will shake the faith of many believers"(cf.Catechism of the Catholic Church 675) when the guiding voice of the Church oearth, the Pope, is temporarily silenced.

    Jesus said to them, "This night all of you will have your faith in me shaken, for it is

    written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be dispersed." (Matt

    saw one of my successors taking to flight over the bodies of his brethren. He will take refuge in

    Persecution will burst out in its ugliest form. The flock will be scattered, like burnincoals cast upon the earth:

    The Eye of the Storm will have passed, and the Great Storm will resume its finalcourse with the thunder of justice resounding throughout the cosmos.

    THE SCOURGING OF THE CHURCH

    God will permit great evil against the Church: Heretics and tyrants will come suddenly and

    unexpectedly; they will break into the Church while bishops, prelates and priests are asleep. They

    will enter Italy and lay Rome waste; they will burn down the churches and destroy everything.

    THE TWO PERIODS

    n Part IV, the 1260 days of battle between the Dragon and the Woman appear toconstitute the first half of the Seven Year Trial. It is based on the fact that theDragon pursues the Woman but cannot seem to conquer her: she is given refugefor 1260 days in the "desert." After Christs triumphant entry into Jerusalem, He walso protected from those who wanted to harm or arrest Him for approximatelythree and a half days before the Last Supper. But there came a time when theFather permitted Jesus to be handed over to the authorities. So too, some of the

    faithful will be handed over to receive the glorious crown of martyrdom during theatter 1260 daysanalogous to the period from the Last Supper to the Resurrectio

    DENTIFYING THE BEAST

    At the beginning of the Seven Year Trial, these ten horns and seven heads appear"in the sky" on the Dragon "who is called the Devil and Satan" (12:9). It is a signthat satanism and the occult are reaching a peak, the fruit of the poisonousphilosophies the Dragon injected over 400 years ago (see Understanding The FinaConfrontation). The "sky" may be a symbolic indication that the power of Satan tothat point has been mainly spiritual rather than political; directed from the heavenrather than earth (see Eph 6:12). But now the Dragon, seeing that his time is shor(Rev 12:12), takes the form of, or rather, gives his power to, a conglomerationofnations: "seven heads and ten horns." St. John explains that the ten horns are"ten kings" (Rev 17:2). Venerable Cardinal John Henry Newman, summarizing thethinking of the Church Fathers, identifies this conglomeration:

    "The Beast," that is, the Roman empire. Advent Sermons on Antichrist, Sermon III, The Religion of

    Antichrist

    Some modern scholars believe that the European Union is, or is forming into therevived Roman Empire. The Dragon, or Satan, is a spiritual entity, a fallen angel,not a union of nations himself. He remains hidden under a cloak of deception,hiding his anger and hatred toward the Church. Thus, in the beginning, the NewOrder which rises under the Dragons influence will at first appear on the surface tbe desirable and appealing to a planet reeling from war, plague, famine, anddivisionfive of the Seals of Revelation. It is three and a half years later that thebeast is "given a mouth," personified in a man whom Tradition callsAntichrist.

    Hatred of the brethren makes room next for Antichrist; for the devil prepares beforehand the

    divisions among the people, that he who is to come may be acceptable to them.St. Cyril of Jerusale

    The Seven Year Trial or "week," as Daniel says, begins in a false peace that unitesthe world under the banner of the revived Roman Empire.

    This New World Order will arise in a palatable form that even many Christians willfind alluring. Perhaps the Illumination of Conscience in part will be a warning thatthis proposed global path is anti-God, a path of destruction, a "false peace andsecurity." Thus, the illumination becomes a "last call" to draw souls back to thepath of true Christian unity.

    For half way through the "week," this revived Roman Empire suddenly breaks up.

    I was considering the ten horns it had, when suddenly another, a little horn, sprang out of

    their midst, and three of the previous horns were torn away to make room for it. (Dan 7:8)

    When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like la

    pains upon a pregnant woman,and they will not escape. (1 Thess 5:3)

    Cardinal Newman, echoing the Church Fathers, interprets this collapse of theEmpire to be the removal of the "restrainer" of 2 Thess 2: 7, making way for the"man of lawlessness", the "son of perdition", the Beast, the Antichrist (differentnames for the same person), to come to power. Again, he is called the "mouth" ofthe beast, because he, Antichrist, will rule and give voice to all that is of theantichrist spirit in those nations.

    Satan may adopt the more alarming weapons of deceithe may hide himselfhe may attempt to

    seduce us in little things, and so to move the Church, not all at once, but by little and little from h

    true position. I do believe he has done much in this way in the course of the last few centuries It

    his policy to split us up and divide us, to dislodge us gradually from our rock of strength. And if

    there is to be a persecution, perhaps it will be then; then, perhaps, when we are all of us in all pa

    of Christendom so divided, and so reduced, so full of schism, so close upon heresy. When we have

    cast ourselves upon the world anddepend for protection upon it, and have given up our

    ndependence and our strength, then he may burst upon us in fury as far as God allows him. Then

    suddenly the Roman Empire may break up, and Antichrist appear as a persecutor, and the barbaro

    THE FACE OF ANTICHRIST

    The Antichrist will appear to be a savior such that the Jews will be deceived into

    believing that he is the messiah.

    Hence, considering that Antichrist would pretend to be the Messiah, it was of old the received

    notion that he was to be of Jewish race and to observe the Jewish rites. Cardinal John Henry

    After this Judas rises up, some Church Fathers suggest that eventually he willprobably take residence in the temple (of Jerusalem?).

    At first indeed he will put on a show of mildness (as though he were a learned and discreet person

    and of soberness and benevolence: and by the lying signs and wonders of his magical deceit havin

    beguiled the Jews, as though he were the expected Christ, he shall afterwards be characterized by

    all kinds of crimes of inhumanity and lawlessness, so as to outdo all unrighteous and ungodly men

    who have gone before him; displaying against all men, but especially against us Christians, a spir

    With the rise of Antichrist, the Day of Justice has arrived, with the son of perditionbecoming, in part, an instrument of Gods purification. Just as a day begins indarkness, so too does the "Day of the Lord," which eventually turns into Light.

    And He rested on the seventh day. This means: when His Son will come and destroy the time of t

    awless one and judge the godless, and change the sun and the moon and the starsthen He shal

    THE Illumination will usher in a period of evangelization that will come like a flooda Great Flood of Mercy. Yes, Jesus, come! Come in power, light, love, and mercy!

    But lest we forget, the Illumination is also a warning that the path the world andmany in the Church itself have chosen will bring terrible and painful consequenceupon the earth. The Illumination will be followed by further merciful warnings thatbegin to unfold in the cosmos itself

    THE SEVEN WOES

    n the Gospels, after cleansing the temple, Jesus addressed the scribes andPharisees with seven prophetic woes:

    Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which ap

    beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead mens bones and every kind of filth

    serpents, you brood of vipers, how can you flee from the judgment of Gehenna? (see Matt 23

    29)

    So too, there are seven warnings or trumpets issued against the "scribes andPharisees, the hypocrites" in the Church who have compromised the Gospel. Thewarning of this imminent Day of the Lord (the "day" of judgment and vindication)

    announced by the blasts ofSeven Trumpets in Revelation.

    So who is blowing them?

    THE ARRIVAL OF THE TWO WITNESSES

    Before the rise of Antichrist, it appears that God sends Two Witnesses to prophesy

    I will grant my two witnesses power to prophesy for one thousand two hundred and sixty days

    clothed in sackcloth. (Rev 11:3)

    Tradition has often identified these Two Witnesses as Elijah andEnoch. According the Scriptures, they never suffered death and were taken into paradise. Elijah wastaken away in a fiery chariot while Enoch

    was translated into paradise, that he may give repentance to the nations. (Ecclesiasticus

    44:16)

    The Fathers of the Church have taught that the Two Witnesses will return to earthsomeday to give powerful testimony. In his commentary on the book of Daniel,Hippolytus of Rome wrote:

    And one week shall confirm a covenant with many; and in the midst of the week it shall be that th

    sacrifice and oblation shall be removedthat the one week might be shown to be divided into two

    The two witnesses, then, shall preach three years and a half; and Antichrist shall make war upon t

    saints during the rest of the week, and desolate the world Hippolytus, Church Father, The Extant

    Works and Fragments of Hippolytus, "The interpretation by Hippolytus, bishop of Rome, of the visions of Danie

    and Nebuchadnezzar, taken in conjunction", n.39

    Here, Hippolytus places the Witnesses in the first half of the weekjust as Christpreaches the Seven Woes during the first half of the Passion week. At some point,following the Illumination then, the Two Witnesses may literally appear on earth tocall the world to repentance. While in St. Johns symbolism it is angels who blow ttrumpets, I believe it is Gods prophets who are commissioned to speakthese

    "woes" to the world. One reason is that at the end of their 1260 days ofprophesying, St. John writes:

    The second woe has passed, but the third is coming soon. (Rev 11:14)

    We know from earlier in St. Johns vision that the first two woes comprise the firstsix trumpets (Rev 9:12). Thus, they are blownduring the prophetic ministry of Elijaand Enoch.

    THE SCHISM

    believe the betrayal of Jesus by His own peopleand the Church by her ownmembersis portrayed in the Seven Trumpets of Revelation. They are symbolic oa coming schism in the Church and a literal forewarning of its consequences uponthe world. It begins with the angel holding the Gold censer:

    Then the angel took the censer, filled it with burning coals from the altar, and hurled it

    to the earth. There were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthqua

    (Rev 8:5)

    We immediately hear again the familiar sounds that accompanied the Illuminationthe sound of impending justice in the thunder:

    The trumpet blast grew louder and louder while Moses was speaking andGod answering him with

    thunder. (Ex 19:19)

    These burning coals, I believe, are those apostates who have beenCleansed fromthe Temple and who have refused to repent. They are cast down to the "earth"where the Dragon is cast to by St. Michael (Rev 12:9). Satan is exorcised from the"heavens," while on the natural plane, his followers are excommunicated from theChurch (thus, the angel holding the censer may be symbolic of the Holy Father, foSt. John sometimes symbolizes Church leaders as "angels.")

    THE FIRST FOUR TRUMPETS

    Recall that the Book of Revelation began with seven letters written to the sevenChurches of Asiathe number "seven" again is symbolic of wholeness or perfectioThus, the letters may apply to the whole Church. Though bearing words ofencouragement, they also call the Church to repentance. For she is the light of thworld who scatters the darkness, and in some ways, particularly the Holy Fatherhimself, is also the restrainer holding back the powers of darkness.

    Abraham, the father of faith, is by his faith the rock that holds back chaos, the onrushing primord

    flood of destruction, and thus sustains creation. Simon, the first to confess Jesus as the Christ n

    becomes by virtue of his Abrahamic faith, which is renewed in Christ, the rock that stands against

    the impure tide of unbelief and its destruction of man. POPE BENEDICT XVI (Cardinal Ratzinger), Calle

    to Communion, Understanding the Church Today, Adrian Walker, Tr., p. 55-56

    Thus, the letters of Revelation set the stage for judgment, first of the Church, andthen the world. The letters are addressed to the "seven stars" who appear in Jesus

    hand at the beginning of the vision to St. John:

    This is the secret meaning of the seven stars you saw in my right hand, and of the seven g

    lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands

    the seven churches. (Rev 1:20)

    Again, "angels" likely means the pastors of the Church. Scripture tells us that aportion of these "stars" will fall away or be cast out in an "apostasy" (2 Thess 2:3)

    First there falls from the sky "hail and fire mixed with blood" then a "burningmountain" and then a "star burning like a torch" (Rev 8:6-12). Are these trumpetssymbolic of the "scribes, elders and chief priests," that is, a third of priests, bishopand cardinals? Indeed, the Dragon "swept away a third of the stars in the sky andhurled them down to the earth" (Rev 12:4).

    What we read in Chapter 8 is the resulting "damage" this brings to the entirecosmos, foremost spiritually. It is universal, thus St. John envisions this devastatiosymbolically as "four" trumpets (as in the "four corners of the earth.") The damagto the cosmos is always described as a "third," equivalent to the number of stars

    that are swept away.

    A third of the land was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all green grass A

    of the sea turned to blood a third of the creatures living in the sea died, and a third o

    ships were wrecked a third of the rivers and on the springs of water a third of all the w

    turned to wormwood. Many people died from this water, because it was made bitter When the

    fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the

    stars were struck, so that a third of them became dark. The day lost its light for a third

    the time, as did the night. (Rev 8:6-12)

    Since St. John later describes the Church as "a woman clothed with the sun, withthe moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars" (12:1), thefourth trumpet may be symbolic of the rest of the Churchlay, religious etc.losi"a third of their light."

    Repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your

    lampstand from its place, unless you repent. (Rev 2:5)

    WARNINGS

    But is this all merely symbolic? I believe the trumpets St. John sees, while symboliof the schism, are foreshadowing real and cosmic consequences which will findtheir fulfillment in the Seven Bowls. As St. Paul says, "the whole creation has beengroaning with labor pains" (Rom 8:2). These consequences are the

    trumpets,prophetic warnings issued by the Two Witnesses against those who havsplit from the true Church, and the world at large, which has rejected the Gospel.That is, the Two Witnesses have been given power by God to back up theirprophesying with signsregional chastisements which indeed sound very much lithe Trumpets themselves:

    They have the power to close up the sky so that no rain can fall during the time of their

    prophesying. They also have power to turn water into blood and to afflict the earth with an

    plague as often as they wish. (Rev 11:6)

    Thus the Trumpets may be both spiritually symbolic and somewhat literal.Ultimately, they are a warning that following the New World Order and its risingeader, the Antichrist, will result in unparalleled devastationa warning echoed inthe Fifth Trumpet about to be blown

    The Seven Year Trial Part VIII

    Indeed, the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophe

    (Amos 3:7)

    PROPHETIC WARNING

    The Lord sends the Two Witnesses into the world to call them to repentance.

    Through this act of mercy, we see again that God is love, slow to anger, and rich imercy.

    Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? says the Lord God. Do I not

    rather rejoice when he turns from his evil way that he may live? (Ezek 18:23)

    Lo, I will send you Elijah, the prophet, before the day of the LORD comes, the great and

    terrible day, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the

    children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with doom. (Mal 3:24-25)

    Elijah and Enoch will warn that terrible evil will be unleashed upon an unrepentanworld: the Fifth Trumpet for the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23).

    THE FIFTH TRUMPET

    Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the

    earth. It was given the key for the passage to the abyss. It opened the passage to the aby

    and smoke came up out of the passage like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the air we

    darkened by the smoke from the passage. Locusts came out of the smoke onto the land, and th

    were given the same power as scorpions of the earth. (Rev 9:1-3)

    n this passage, we read that a "star that had fallen" was given the key to theabyss. Recall that it is to the earth that Satan is cast by Michael and his angels (R12:7-9). And so this "king of the abyss" may be Satan, or perhaps the one in whomSatan manifestsAntichrist. Or is the "star" a reference to a religious apostate? SHildegard, for instance, held that the Antichrist will be born from the Church, andattempt to parody the great events at the end of Christs life, such as His death,Resurrection, and Ascension into heaven.

    Abaddon (meaning "Destroyer"; cf. John 10:10) lets loose a plague of diabolicstinging "locusts" which have the power, not to kill, but to torment all those who dnot have the seal of God on their foreheads. On a spiritual level, this sounds very

    much like the "deceiving power" which God permits to delude those who haverefused to believe the truth (see 2 Thess 11-12). It is a deception permitted to letpeople follow their darkened hearts, to reap what they have sown: to follow andeven worship the Antichrist who personifies this deception. However, they nowfollow in fear.

    On a natural level, the locusts are given a description by St. John comparable tothat of an army of helicoptersswat teams?

    The sound of their wings was like the sound of many horse-drawn chariots racing into battle

    (Rev 9:9)

    The evil which the Two Witnesses warned about was a reign of fear: a global andabsolute Totalitarianism headed by Antichrist, and enforced by his False Prophet.

    St. John writes that, aside from the rise of Antichrist, there also comes one whom ater describes as "the false prophet."

    Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lambs but spoke

    like a dragon. It wielded all the authority of the first beast in its sight and made the ea

    and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed. It perform

    great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of everyone. It

    deceived the inhabitants of the earth with the signs it was allowed to perform (Rev 13:11-

    This beast has the appearance of someone religious, but who speaks "like adragon." It sounds like the "high priest" of the New World Order whose role isto enforce worship of the Antichrist through a single world religion and an economsystem which binds to him every man, woman, and child. It is possible this FalseProphet appears throughout the entire Seven Year Trial, and has a large role to pln the Apostasy, acting as it were, as the "tail" of the Dragon. In this regard, he tos a "Judas," an antichrist. (See the Epilogue regarding the identity of the FalseProphet and the possibility of another antichrist afterthe Era of Peace).

    As far as the antichrist is concerned, we have seen that in the New Testament he always assumes

    the lineaments of contemporary history. He cannot be restricted to any single individual. One and

    Presumably, the False Prophet also counters the miracles produced by the TwoWitnesses:
