Minutes of 3rd Executive committee meeting

Lanka members was held on 20 th March 2006 at
Conference room, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication

Important points DiscussedDr. Thrishantha Nanayakkara read 2nd
meeting minutes and the email, which drafted according to the
2nd meeting decision, sent to industry members. The meeting
minutes was proposed by Dr. Prasad and
seconded by Dr. Kumarawadu.
Dr. Prasad Wimalaratne told that in principle the audit people
agreed and further development on this
will be carried out later. This need to be checked [Dr.
Wimalaratne and Dr. Ekanayake]
Dr. S. P. Kumarawadu told that he will find out a student
member, who can guide the Webmaster in theexecutive committee. This
will speed up the process to implement the proposals.
Dr. S. P. Kumarawadu took the responsible of making a yahoo chat
group emails, which will help to
chat and share the ideas through a chat meeting.
To get SMIEEE some names were requested to propose in the past
meeting. This responsible was taken
by Dr. Ekanayake to finalized the proposed people from all
organizations
Remaining positions to be filled in the IEEE SL committee was
discussed as below:
o Webmaster: Mr. Eranga as the webmaster and Mr. Rohan as the
supportive officer. This was
proposed by Dr. Kumarawadu
o Membership development: Dialog Jayanthan was proposed by Dr.
Kumarawadu
o Professional activity: Mr. Samarakoon was proposed by Dr.
Ekanayake
o Educational activity: Dr. Prabaharan and Dr. Prasad Jayaweera
was proposed by Dr.
Atputharajah
o Committee member: Mr. Vijith Seniveratna was proposed by Dr.
Ekanayake
Getting ISBN for the ICIIA proceedings was discussed and
finalized that it can be done by Dr. Rohan
A proposal was planed to be prepared by Dr. Nanayakkara to
indicate how the IEEE SL can collaboratewith the industry to
arrange seminar, workshop, and other events

Activity plan for this year was discussed as follows:
o Mobile communication [Dr. Delika with dialog]
o Robotics [Dr. Nanayakkara with Dr. Munasinghe]
o Automation and Sensor networks [Dr. Alahakoon and Dr.
Chandima]
o Embedded systems [Dr. Wijayakulasooriya]o Lightning protection
[Dr. Alahakoon]
o Energy saving techniques [Dr. Atputharajah]
o ICIA conference [Dr. Munasinghe with all others]
o ICIIS conference [Dr. Alahakoon with all others]
It was also discussed to include some talks on Ethics, Energy
crises, Human rights can be included as
an additional talk in each of the above mentioned workshops. In
other words some of the present
problems have to be addressed by the IEEE [proposed by Dr.
Nanayakkara].
The coming year financial forecasting report with brief
explanation of all expenses needs to beprepared [Dr. Ekanayake]
A discussion on TECHNO 2006 exhibition in October at Colombo
BMICH was discussed. Applying
for a joint stall was discussed [Dr. Nanayakkara with Dr.
Ekanayake]
Promoting student membership was discussed in all three
Universities, other Universities, SLIIT and
other private sectors. [Initiated by Dr. Ekanayake and Dr.
Kumarawadu]
Make e-flyer to send all students about the benefits of joining
IEEE. [Dr. Kumarawadu took
responsible of this]
Preparing the news letter twice a year was discussed. Dr.
Kumarawadu will do the format for the first
news letter.
Journal reading activity was discussed. This is targeting final
year undergraduate students to provide
technical writing skill, literature survey methods through IEEE
monthly technical talks. [Proposed by
Dr. Nanayakkara]
A discussion on WOMEN IEEE was carried out. Ms. Shihani, Mrs.
Visaka Nanayakkara and Professor
Delikka can deliver a talk at each of the workshop planned to be
arranged in this year.
Relationships with other national societies were discussed. NSF,
IESL, IEE events have to be
coordinated with the IEEE activities.
Industrial database has to be prepared based on field of
working. For this data collection has to be
done. As a starting point, it will be tried through sending
email to all industrial members. But after web
development it can be done through it.
It was discussed to arrange a chat meeting through the group
email. Then when it is necessary, it was
plan to have the next meeting at the IITC in the UCSC.
The meeting was finished at 19:30 Hrs.
