and empower students by advocating student’s needs and

paign “2nd Road to Success”. We are highly concerned

about the struggles that students, faculty, staff members and

visitors experience on the road to campus.

Freshman Internship program The Student Government Intern Program

(SGIP) is open to students who seek leadership opportunities and who want to learn more about the

duties of being an SGA member, by getting involved with campus events.

On September 18, FIU celebrated

the re-opening of the Aquarius

Reef Base, which was featured on

the Today show and later on CBS.

Located at a depth of 60 feet un-

derwater in the Florida Keys Na-

tional Marine Sanctuary, Aquarius,

is the last sustainable underwater

research lab of its kind. FIU pro-

fessors, researchers and marine

biology students can have the op-

portunity to live in the reef base

for weeks at a time, conducting

research, with the conveniences

of electricity, fresh water and in-

ternet access, according to a Huff-

ington Post article. "This is a very

exciting moment for me and for

FIU since this is the only underwa-

ter research lab in the world," said

Fu Zhou Wu, the SGA President

of the Biscayne Bay Campus. The

lab which was previously in con-

trol by the National Oceanic and

Atmospheric Administration, was

going to be shut down due to lack

of government funding, according

to the Huffington Post article. In

Spring 2013, FIU announced that

they were going to take over the

lab, to benefit the School of Envi-

ronment and the Marine Biology

program. "No one can doubt that

FIU offers "Worlds Ahead" educa-

tion," Wu said. "I am very proud

of being a FIU panther.”
