MEMBERS HELP TD BANK TO DONATE SIGNIFICANT MONEY TO LSS, AT NO COST TO MEMBERS!!!!

Over the past 3 years the shul has received over $28,000 from TD Bank as a result of our participating in their Affinity Program.

This amount received was based on balances held in checking, savings, CDs and IRA accounts of our members who have signed up

for this wonderful program. So if you don't have an account at TD Bank, please consider opening one and ask for the account to be

linked to the LSS Affinity Program. If you already do have an account at TD Bank, and it is not linked, get it linked. There is total

confidentiality. At no time will LSS know who has accounts there. They have a location at 68th & Broadway as well as many other

locations in the city and are open on Sunday as well.

Please join us in this effort to get significant funds to LSS from TD Bank, with no cost to you at all!

Do Talk to Strangers Despite what your mothers told you, please get into the habit of talking to strangers! Make them feel welcome in shul (when davening

ends!) and at Kiddush. Long time members, it’s time to get to know each other. Ask newcomers to write to [email protected] during

the week. The Membership/Welcome Committee will contact them.

LSS Security Message

Why we want you be trained by CSS – Community Security Services

Last Shabbos Harvey Stein introduced you to some of our security team leaders and our LSS Local Synagogue Volunteers (LSVs). Who trains us?

If you were watching the tv news shows about the killing and capture of the Boston Marathon bombers you might have heard, for the first time, about Inspire the glossy on-line jihadist magazine that gives instructions on how to build bombs. [http://info.publicintelligence.net/InspireWinter2013.pdf].

Your CSS trained team leaders at LSS already knew about Inspire magazine.

This week you also might have seen or read quotes from terror expert Mitchell Silber, the former director of intelligence analysis for the NYPD and the author of The Al Qaeda Factor: Plots Against the West on CNN and in the Wall Street Journal.

Your CSS trained team leaders Harvey, Martha and Lenny were already briefed by him before the Boston Marathon bombing - yes before. CSS brought him in.

Why do we urge you to take the CSS advanced course? Because at CSS we are always being trained and retrained by experts – such as Mitchell Silber. If you train with CSS you will be, too. Please get on our waiting list to train with CSS. Become part of the leadership team that keeps LSS and the wider Jewish community safe. You will learn how to spot terror planners, how to thwart them and what to do in an immediate crisis. You can save lives. Lesson learned: CSS members are trained by experts. Questions? Contact LSS's Head of Security Harvey Stein at [email protected] or speak to one of our team leaders. Act as if your life depended on it.

What Happened? What Now? An honest, confidential discussion

group for parents coping with children who are no longer

observant This 3 session group will be moderated by Dr. Michelle Friedman. People need not be synagogue members but are expected to attend all 3 sessions. Contact Dr. Friedman to register at [email protected] or 212-799-5723. $60 for Members; $75 for Non-Members. Dr. Michelle Friedman received an MD from the NYU School of Medicine and has completed advanced training at the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Center for Training and Research. She is a highly respected psychiatrist who focuses on the Jewish community and has a special interest in the rabbinate and pastoral counseling. In addition to her private practice and her role at YCT, Dr. Friedman is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
