Breaks From Delhi8
Rishikesh, a quaint town sprawled along the banks of the Ganges at the foothills of the Himalayas, is the ideal weekend getaway for city dwell-ers. Rishikesh carries the sobriquet ‘Yoga capital of the world’, owing to its historic link to this practise and the multitude of Yoga ashrams and medi-tation centres that have mushroomed across the town.
Rishikesh is synonymous with reli-gion and spirituality, but also with
-tination for adrenalin junkies – adven-ture activities such as trekking, bun-gee jumping, bird watching, and safari are abound. However, Rishikesh is most famously known for white water rafting. The majestic River Ganges flows through this town and offers ideal rafting waters for beginners as well as expert rafters. The common rafting stretch for novices is 16 kms long and begins from Shivpuri till Rishikesh. You will encounter several rapids enroute, ranging from Grade 2
Grade 4 vortex, is the most fun, albeit formidable rapid!
The scenery during rafting excur-sions in Rishikesh is breathtaking and there are moments when all you can hear is your breath and the gurgling of the water. There are many placid stretches of water where rafters can jump in and enjoy some body surfing. Several hotels as well as riverside camps organise rafting for travellers.
The rafting season in Rishikesh has commenced so head out of Delhi for an invigorating escapade.
