CHASSIS FRAMETrailer structure

Factor of Safety

Deflection limitation

The chassis framework shall be electrically welded and robust in construction. Cross members shall be made from preferably with rolled sections shall be provided at close pitch. The trailer platform shall be provided with 6 mm thick steel plate. All steel used for fabrication of trailer frame and members shall conform to the latest edition of IS: 2062. In design of trailer structures impact factor of 1.5 shall be considered.

The factor of safety shall not be less than 2.5 times on yield stress.

The deflection measured at the middle of trailer shall not be more than L/500 under maximum rated load where L is the wheel base.

Structural welding shall be done as per AWS D1.1 code. Weld strength design Calculations shall be submitted.

Footsteps along with handrail shall be provided at the end of the platform.

TOW BAR ASSEMBLY

Turn table

Draw bar eye

The draw bar structure shall be fabricated with standard “C” channels / rolled sections with proper reinforcement.

Standard make Ball bearing type turntable/ slewing ring shall be fitted to draw-bar assembly for steering of trailer. Make of Turn table shall be M/s Rothe Erde Germany, M/s JOST Germany, M/s BPW Germany, M/s GF, Germany.

Forged draw bar eye of app. OD: 115 mm & ID: 50mm dia. shall be provided at front of the trailer. The forged draw bar eye shall be suitable for standard Towing coupling of 50mm dia. Tow bar eye shall be provided axial movement with spring assisted. The details of tow bar eye shall be submitted along with offer. Make of tow bar eye: M/s Rockinger, M/s RINGFEDER, M/s JOST or M/s. VBG. Welded tow bar eye is not acceptable.

5. AXLES Standard axles of adequate capacities shall be provided.

Standard axle assembly including hubs, brakes and suspension shall be of reputed make from M/s TATA; M/s Ashok Leyland; M/s Automotive axles or M/s York or M/s. BPW Number of axles: 04 no. dual mounted with 15”/16” wheel disc.Brakes shall be provided to all the wheels.Necessary test certificates for axle assemblies shall be submitted during stage inspection of trailer. Axles shall be perfectly aligned to eliminate tyre drag.

Axle capacity, make and model no. shall be given in the offer. Axle bearings used shall be of reputed makes like SKF, FAG, TIMKEN only.

6 SUSPENSION The type of suspension shall be of leaf spring type.

Preferably, standard make leaf spring assemblies (along with shock absorbers, mounting brackets & shackles).

Each leaf spring suspension unit shall be complete with rubber bushes, heavy duty semi-elliptical leaf springs, spring guides, shock absorbers etc. The suspensions shall be designed to offer a smooth ride under no load, part load and full load conditions. Make of leaf springs shall be M/s LAMINA, CANARA, M/s. YORK, or complete kit of axle with suspension of reputed make as mentioned above in Sl. No. 5.Make of Shock absorbers : M/s Gabriel or M/s ARMSTRONG/YORKOr a standard fitment of the above makes.

7. TWIN PIPE LINE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM WITH RELAY EMERGENCY VALVE

A suitably designed pneumatic operated, twin pipeline (service and emergency line) braking system shall be provided for the trailer. The air connections between the trailer and tractor shall be routed properly by coiled hoses of appropriate length & palm couplings of reputed make. The pneumatic system shall be complete with SAE/ISO palm couplings, emergency relay valve, brake chambers, slack adjustors, air tank, hose connections etc. Braking system shall be configured to meet the following :

1. In case of accidental detachment of trailer from tractor, all the wheels shall automatically get brake and trailer shall be stopped safely.

2. When the brake system not coupled, the trailer can be towed with tractor. i.e., without air pressure in trailer it can be moved.

3. Trailer service brake shall be applied from tractor driver cabin with tractor brake pedal,

Mechanically operated parking brake at rear wheels with control mechanism below the trailer platform.

Air tubes & hoses shall be painted to SAE/ISO color code i.e., yellow for emergency line and red for service line. All axle (four nos.) wheels shall be fitted with service brakes.

The trailer shall be fitted with an air reservoir having capacity to give a minimum of four full brake applications with pressure drop from cut-out to cut-in pressure.

The retarding force produced by the braking system should be equal to 45% of the rated load on the axle.

All brake parts, air regulator valves shall be of M/s TVS-Sundaram Clayton or Webco make.

8. WHEELS & TYRES Std. Ring type wheel rims of Wheels India/YORK make shall be used.

Indigenously available Heavy-duty pneumatic tyres of 15”/16” wheel disc, suitable for highway operation shall be provided. Tyres per axle: 4nos. Total no. tyres for four axles : 16 nos

Long inflation necks or adopters shall be provided for accessing inner wheels for filling/checking tyre inflation.

9. FASTENERS All fasteners used in trailer shall be of Electro galvanized. Make of fasteners shall be of M/s Unbrako, or M/s Sundaram Fasteners (TVS) only. All fasteners shall confirm to Indian Standards IS1367.

10. LUBRICATION Forced feed grease nipples shall be provided to all the parts of trailer that require lubrication.

11. PAINTING The trailer shall be surface prepared and painted as per the following specifications :

1. Sand/Grit/Abrasive blasting: The entire surface of fabricated materials/ frames of trailer are to be sand/grit/abrasive blasted to near white metal quality of SA 2½ of Steel Structures Painting Council (SSPC) standard. The surface shall be completely free from rust, oil, grease, dirt or other matter. Surface should be thoroughly from grit/sand dust before application of primer paint coat.

2. Painting: (Spray Painting only shall be applied)Immediately after sand/abrasive blasting, one coat of epoxy primer (AKZONOBEL Interzinc 52) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 50 microns. Intermediate coating with epoxy paint (AKZONOBEL Intergrade 485HS) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 150 micron. A final coat with polyurethane finish paint (AKZONOBEL Interthane 990) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 50 microns. Any intermediate cleaning & drying time required between successive coats of paint is to be carried out as per the recommendation of paint manufacturer. All paints and primers shall be of standard quality and procured from M/s Akzonobel

The supplier shall provide measuring instrument to the representative of the purchaser for measurements of thickness of paint at random locations selected by him to confirm the required minimum DFT. Tentative Painting scheme shall be as follows: Under chassis &Springs : Black Axles, brake drum, hubs : Brown Wheels : Golden Yellow Sides and rear : Golden Yellow with black stripes. Top platform : Smoke Gray

Painting color scheme will be finalized during detail engineering phase.

SWL: 30 Tons, STOP, number/Nameplate, SPROB/MH, SATISH DHAWAN SPACE CENTRE-SHAR etc., shall be painted at suitable location on the trailer.Letter writing shall be done as per our requirement.

12. STANDARD ACCESSORIES, TOOLS AND FITTINGS ALONG WITH TRAILER

1. One no. Stephaney wheel (with rim, tyre, tube and flap).

2. Following Tarparia Make Maintenance tools shall be supplied:a) Wheel nut spanner: 02 nos.b) Axle nut spanner: 02 Nos.c) Screw drivers 6” & 10”: 02 nos. eachd) Pliers: 02 nos.e) ELGI 5 Kg cap. Grease gun: 1 no.

f) Tool box of suitable size, with hinged lid and locking facility, to be provided below the trailer platform (at rear). Lock (Godrej Navtal 6 levers) with three keys shall be provided

3. One no. Webco/Enerpac/Mekaster make 10 ton cap. Hydraulic jack and Tommy bar for wheel changing

4. Number plate & Stop plate fixed at rear of trailer.5. Mud guard with flaps for each wheel set.

6. 4 nos. of eyebolts shall be provided at corners of the trailer. Capacity of each eyebolt shall be 5t.

7. Provision for fixing red flags at rear and the sides.

8. Red reflectors of sufficient numbers on the rear and on the sides. Reflecting surface dia. 75mm.

9. 2” Red reflecting tap shall be pasted at the front and rear side of the trailer indicating width of the trailer.

10. Earthing shall be provided by means of four nos. of 6 mm thick copper chain under the trailer chassis.

11. Suitable Access Ladder, for climbing up the trailer platform, made of MS shall be provided at rear side of the trailer.

13. SPARE PARTS & ITEMS TO BE SUPPLIED WITH TRAILER.

1. Self-closing type palm couplings - 2sets (1 set 4nos)

2. Coil type pneumatic hose - 2 sets (1 set 2nos.)

3. Wheel Hub nut spanner – 1 Nos.

4. Wheel Hub Puller- 1Nos.

5. Hub Oil seal set – 2sets. (set is Inner & Outer seals)

6. Inner wheel bearing – 2nos.

7. Outer wheel bearing – 2 nos.

8. Wheel Stud with nut - 10 nos.

The supplier shall get specific prior approval of the purchaser for any other make of bought-out items other than what are indicated above and also for any other items not listed above. Party shall provide detailed technical justification and purchaser has a right to accept or reject. In case of rejection, party shall adhere to the makes given above.

15. INSPECTION AND LOAD TESTING

Stage and Final Inspections will be carried out at your site by our inspection team. 1. First Stage Inspection : Raw materials inspection, Bought out items

verification, material test certificates verification etc.,

2. Second stage inspection : After completion of Structure, inspection of all bought out items, after surface finishing before painting.

3. Final Inspection : Before delivery to our site, inspection and load testing of trailer shall be carried out. Load test for rated capacity and over load test 125% of SWL shall be conducted at manufacturers work. Supplier shall arrange loads and tractor at their site.

4. DP test before and after the load test

5. Material test certificate (Physical and Chemical)

6. Trailers shall be load tested (for rated load) and commissioned at our site by supplier. Department will arrange loads and tractor for testing at SDSC SHAR.

Deflection shall be within “L/500” on full load.

For stage, final inspection and load testing, the supplier should extend all assistance to the representatives of the Purchaser. Any modifications or corrections brought to the notice of the supplier at the time of inspection, by the representatives of Purchaser, should be corrected by the supplier at free of cost.

16 Submission of Quotation Supplier shall submit the following details of trailer along with quotation:1. Technical specifications of trailer with major component description.2. General arrangement drawing with all dimensions of trailer 3. Weight of trailer 4. Axles capacity5. Angle of approach, Angle of departure and max. ramp climbable by

trailer (without touching ground).6. Turn circle radii.7. Make of Materials & bought-out items (Axles, turn table, tow bar eye,

springs, steel plates, tyres, shock absorbers etc.,)8. Delivery period9. Payment conditions.10. Supplier shall declare that he will full fill all the conditions and

technical specifications of trailer in supply. Any Deviation (technical) shall be brought out by Supplier clearly.

11. Earlier references of supply of trailers of capacity 15t and above.12. Validity of Offer (Minimum 4 months)

Note : Tender shall be accompanied with all above mentioned details. The General Arrangement drawing of trailer shall be drawn to scale with the elevation and plan of the TRAILER and along with specimen & clamping systems. Tenders will be rejected, if compliance with this clause is not ensured. The tenderer shall also clearly specify any request for deviation from technical specifications on particular items by mentioning sl.no. of specifications. Generalized statements like trailer will be manufactured as per your specifications or as per IS standards etc. are not adequate. Otherwise, it may result in rejection of the tender.

17 After placement of Purchase Order.

After Placement of Purchase Order ( Design & Detail Engineering):

1. Supplier shall submit/ provide the listed information, design details, calculations and drawings (in three copies each) to the purchaser for approval.

2. Quality Assurance Plan to be followed in the fabrication, assembly and supply of trailer including load testing plan, with stages of inspection. This shall be supplied for our Approval.

3. The General Arrangement drawing of trailer to the SCALE clearly showing dimensions, air connections, Wheels, Turn circle radii , weight break up, etc.,

4. Structural calculations:General layout drawing of trailer frame to SCALE with design calculations (bending moment, deflection, maximum stresses, permissible stresses etc.,). Impact factor shall be considered in trailer calculations. All the drawings shall show the bill of quantities and material specifications.Also calculations for fatigue design (cyclic stress conditions) of trailer shall be submitted.

5. Design calculations for weld joints showing loads & stresses

6. Design calculation for Tow bar structure, tow bar eye, Turntable frame with drawings & Bill of materials.

7. Calculations for turn circle radii and max road width required at turnings.

8. Calculations for axle load and tyre loading with selection criteria of axles, turntable, wheels, tyres, suspension, bearings etc.

9. Braking calculations for trailer.

10. Assembly drawings of Axles, wheel assemblies, Turntable & suspension system.

11. Circuit diagram for twin pipeline air brake system containing details of components such as make, type, rating etc., with a technical description meeting the requirement mentioned in the technical specifications.

All the above drawings and calculations (Sl. No. 1 to 10) shall be submitted within 4 weeks after placement of order to the purchaser for approval. After approval only supplier shall start the fabrication & manufacturing of trailer. If the drawings and other particulars are returned by the purchaser, because of incompletion or faulty, the supplier shall make the necessary correction / modifications and resubmit the drawings and calculations within two weeks time.

18 Documents and manuals supplied along with trailers (prior to commissioning of trailers at our site)

DOCUMETNS ALONG WITH SUPPLY:

1. Three copies of final drawings and data of trailer, which have been approved by the purchaser.

2. Two copies of Operating Maintenance manuals, with lubrication charts, twin pipe line braking system

3. Two copies of Spare parts manual.

ALL THE DOCUMENTS SHALL BE SUPPLIED IN THE FORM OF HARD BOUND BOOKS.

4. Apart from hardcopy, all final drawings of trailer, major components assembly drawings and circuit diagram shall be submitted in soft copy in ‘CD’ in AUTOCAD format.

6 SUSPENSION The type of suspension shall be of leaf spring type.

Preferably, standard make leaf spring assemblies (along with shock absorbers, mounting brackets & shackles).

Each leaf spring suspension unit shall be complete with rubber bushes, heavy duty semi-elliptical leaf springs, spring guides, shock absorbers etc. The suspensions shall be designed to offer a smooth ride under no load, part load and full load conditions. Make of leaf springs shall be M/s LAMINA, CANARA, M/s. YORK, or complete kit of axle with suspension of reputed make as mentioned above in Sl. No. 5.Make of Shock absorbers : M/s Gabriel or M/s ARMSTRONG/YORKOr a standard fitment of the above makes.

7. TWIN PIPE LINE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM WITH RELAY EMERGENCY VALVE

A suitably designed pneumatic operated, twin pipeline (service and emergency line) braking system shall be provided for the trailer. The air connections between the trailer and tractor shall be routed properly by coiled hoses of appropriate length & palm couplings of reputed make. The pneumatic system shall be complete with SAE/ISO palm couplings, emergency relay valve, brake chambers, slack adjustors, air tank, hose connections etc. Braking system shall be configured to meet the following :

1. In case of accidental detachment of trailer from tractor, all the wheels shall automatically get brake and trailer shall be stopped safely.

2. When the brake system not coupled, the trailer can be towed with tractor. i.e., without air pressure in trailer it can be moved.

3. Trailer service brake shall be applied from tractor driver cabin with tractor brake pedal,

Air tubes & hoses shall be painted to SAE/ISO color code i.e., yellow for emergency line and red for service line. All axle (four nos.) wheels shall be fitted with service brakes.

The trailer shall be fitted with an air reservoir having capacity to give a minimum of four full brake applications with pressure drop from cut-out to cut-in pressure.

The retarding force produced by the braking system should be equal to 45% of the rated load on the axle.

All brake parts, air regulator valves shall be of M/s TVS-Sundaram Clayton or Webco make.

8. WHEELS & TYRES

Std. Ring type wheel rims of Wheels India/YORK make shall be used.

Indigenously available Heavy-duty pneumatic tyres of 15”/16” wheel disc, suitable for highway operation shall be provided. Tyres shall be – 4nos. per axle. Total : 16 nosLong inflation necks or adopters shall be provided for accessing inner wheels for filling/checking tyre inflation.

9. FASTENERS All fasteners used in trailer shall be of Electro galvanized. Make of fasteners shall be of M/s Unbrako, or M/s Sundaram Fasteners (TVS) only. All fasteners shall confirm to Indian Standards IS1367.

LUBRICATION Forced feed grease nipples shall be provided to all the parts of trailer that require lubrication.

11.

PAINTING The trailer shall be surface prepared and painted as per the following specifications :

1. Sand/Grit/Abrasive blasting: The entire surface of fabricated materials/ frames of trailer are to be sand/grit/abrasive blasted to near white metal quality of SA 2½ of Steel Structures Painting Council (SSPC) standard. The surface shall be completely free from rust, oil, grease, dirt or other matter. Surface should be thoroughly from grit/sand dust before application of primer paint coat.

3. Painting: (Spray Painting only shall be applied)

Immediately after sand/abrasive blasting, one coat of epoxy primer (AKZONOBEL Interzinc 52) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 50 microns. Intermediate coating with epoxy paint (AKZONOBEL

Intergrade 485HS) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 150 micron. A final coat with polyurethane finish paint (AKZONOBEL Interthane 990) shall be applied to a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 50 microns. Any intermediate cleaning & drying time required between successive coats of paint is to be carried out as per the recommendation of paint manufacturer. All paints and primers shall be of standard quality and procured from M/s Akzonobel

The supplier shall provide measuring instrument to the representative of the purchaser for measurements of thickness of paint at random locations selected by him to confirm the required minimum DFT. Tentative Painting scheme shall be as follows: Under chassis &Springs : Black Axles, brake drum, hubs : Brown Wheels : Golden Yellow Sides and rear : Golden Yellow with black

stripes. Top platform : Smoke Gray

Painting color scheme will be finalized during detail engineering phase.

SWL: 30 Tons, STOP, number/Nameplate, SPROB/MH, SATISH DHAWAN SPACE CENTRE-SHAR etc., shall be painted at suitable location on the trailer.Letter writing shall be done as per our requirement.

12.

STANDARD ACCESSORIES, TOOLS AND FITTINGS ALONG WITH TRAILER

1. One no. Stephaney wheel (with rim, tyre, tube and flap).

2. Following Tarparia Make Maintenance tools shall be supplied:

a) Wheel nut spanner: 02 nos.b) Axle nut spanner: 02 Nos.c) Screw drivers 6” & 10”: 02 nos. eachd) Pliers: 02 nos.e) ELGI 5 Kg cap. Grease gun: 1 no. f) Tool box of suitable size, with hinged lid and locking facility, to be provided below the trailer platform (at rear). Lock (Godrej Navtal 6 levers) with three keys shall be provided

3. One no. Webco/Enerpac/Mekaster make 10 ton cap. Hydraulic jack and Tommy bar for wheel changing

6. 4 nos. of eyebolts shall be provided at corners of the trailer. Capacity of each eyebolt shall be 5t.

7. Provision for fixing red flags at rear and the sides.

8. Red reflectors of sufficient numbers on the rear and on the sides. Reflecting surface dia. 75mm.

9. 2” Red reflecting tap shall be pasted at the front and rear side of the trailer indicating width of the trailer.

10. Earthing shall be provided by means of four nos. of 6 mm thick copper chain under the trailer chassis.

11. Suitable Access Ladder, for climbing up the trailer platform, made of MS shall be provided at rear side of the trailer.

SPARE PARTS & ITEMS TO BE SUPPLIED WITH TRAILER.

1. Self-closing type palm couplings - 2sets (1 set 4nos)

8. Wheel Stud with nut - 10 nos.

The supplier shall get specific prior approval of the purchaser for any other make of bought-out items other than what are indicated above and also for any other items not listed above. Party shall provide detailed technical justification and purchaser has a right to accept or reject. In case of rejection, party shall adhere to the makes given above.

INSPECTION AND LOAD TESTING

Stage and Final Inspections will be carried out at your site by our inspection team. 1. First Stage Inspection : Raw materials inspection,

Bought out items verification, material test certificates verification etc.,

2. Second stage inspection : After completion of Structure, inspection of all bought out items, after surface finishing before painting.

3. Final Inspection : Before delivery to our site, inspection and load testing of trailer shall be carried out. Load test for rated capacity and over load test 125% of SWL shall be conducted at manufacturers work. Supplier shall arrange loads and tractor at their site.

4. DP test before and after the load test

5. Material test certificate (Physical and Chemical)

6. Trailers shall be load tested (for rated load) and commissioned at our site by supplier. Department will arrange loads and tractor for testing at SDSC SHAR.

Deflection shall be within “L/500” on full load.

For stage, final inspection and load testing, the supplier should extend all assistance to the representatives of the Purchaser. Any modifications or corrections brought to the notice of the supplier at the time of inspection, by the representatives of Purchaser, should be corrected by the supplier at

DOCUMETNS ALONG WITH SUPPLY:

1. Three copies of final drawings and data of trailer, which have been approved by the purchaser.

2. Two copies of Operating Maintenance manuals, with lubrication charts, twin pipe line braking system

3. Two copies of Spare parts manual.

ALL THE DOCUMENTS SHALL BE SUPPLIED IN THE FORM OF HARD BOUND BOOKS.

4. Apart from hardcopy, all final drawings of trailer, major components assembly drawings and circuit diagram shall be submitted in soft copy in ‘CD’ in AUTOCAD format.
