SharePoint 2013 How to Add a Document to your Page from your Document Library in

SharePoint

The first thing you will notice with SharePoint 2013 is that you won’t see the Site Actions icon on the top left of the page; instead, you will see SHARE FOLLOW at the top right of the page.

Let me show you how to add a document to your page.

Let’s begin by adding the document to your Documents folder.

To do that, click the settings icon and select Site contents.

Site Contents is also located at the bottom of the left navigation pane. You may click there as well.

Most of the items you see here are what you’re used to seeing in “View All Site Content”.

Here you will click on Documents. You may click on the actual word “Documents” or you may click on the blue/white icon for Documents. You will see the list of documents currently held in this document library.

To add a new document, click the + sign to the left of “new document”.

Click the Choose File button to select a document from your computer.

Find the document, select it and click the Open button.

Making sure that “Overwrite existing files” is checked, click OK. It may take a moment…

Making sure that you fill in the Title text box will allow that particular document to be searched for much easier and quicker. I always do a copy/paste – a bit quicker. Next step is to click the Save button.

As you can see, the document has been uploaded successfully into your Documents Library.

Let’s go back to the top right portion of this page. Click on the “settings” icon and select Edit page.

SHARE FOLLOW SAVE

Click the Insert tab, Link and select From SharePoint.

Double-click on the document you want to post. This is the easiest, quickest way to add this document to the page.

The document has been posted. The next step is to format the link. Always remove the file extension from a link (.pdf, .doc., xls, etc)

Placing your cursor within the link, delete .pdf. With your cursor still within the link, select the Link tab and place a check in the Open in new tab checkbox.

The weblink now looks like this and it opens in a new tab (window).

After you have finished formatting the link, it’s time to Publish. Click the Publish tab and once again (below Browse) click Publish.

Double check any spelling errors by clicking Cancel. If all is good, click Continue to Publish this page.
