Unit of S S Jain Educational Society
Rated ‘A’ Grade Institution by NAAC
ISO 9001:2008 Certified Affiliated to University Of Madras
IN MEMORIAMSmt Sundarbai & Shri Shankarlal SrisrimalShri Shankarlal Srisrimal shifted to Chennai, from Maharashtra, in 1935. Originally belonging to Rajasthan, he started his business here and was soon occupied in a number of social and community activities. One such activity was to take care of the students residing at the boarding home which was built on the site of the existing college campus.
In 2003, Sri S S Jain Educational Society mooted an idea to build a college on this property. The Shasun Family came forward and contributed for the fulfilment of their parents dream - building an educational edifice for young women. Hence, the college was born and named after them in the year 2005 - Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women.

The Namokar Mantra is chanted in Prakrit - the language in which it was composed many centuries ago. It consists of just five lines of
text and two appended lines:
( I bow to the Arihantas, the Jinas, the perfected human beings )
( I bow to Siddhas, the liberated bodiless souls )
( I bow to the Acharyas, the leaders of the Jaina congregation )
( I bow to the Upadhyayas, the spiritual teachers )
( I bow to all the Sadhus & Sadhvies (ascetics) in the world )
( This five-fold obeisance mantra destroys all sins and obstacles, and of all auspicious recetations, it is first and foremost )
Namo Arihantanam -
Namo Siddhanam -
Namo Ayariyanam -
Namo Uvajjhayanam -
Namo Loe Savva Sahunam -
Eso Pancha namokaro savva pavappanasano Mangalanamcha savvesim padhamam havai mangalam.

LIBERAL EDUCATIONAT SHASUN JAIN COLLEGE
LIBERAL EDUCATIONShasun Jain College, in response to the relevance and meaning of education of tomorrow, has designed an undergraduate program for women. This program takes into account the unique roles of women in social systems and settings as well as the emerging roles into the new sectors of growth in the country.
This education primarily shifts the existing focus on exclusive and silo streams of knowledge to the reality of continuity of knowledge and wisdom existing across millenniums. As such, this education emphasizes and focuses on the multiple roles and membership in various systems in which women are a part of. This gives immense significance in preparing the young women to unfold their talents and at the same time preparing them to take care of both social and professional roles.
A VIEW OF LIBERAL EDUCATION FOR THE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTSLiberal education lasts for a lifetime. It will not leave you after your final exam. Nor will it disappear after your final thesis. Instead, liberal education such as science, humanities or fine- and -performing arts will grow tall and strong with each passing day of your life. You can be assured that even in despairing times your education will stand by you. That is the distinctive mark of liberal education.
At the outset, it is worth mentioning that liberal education comprises the accumulation of general knowledge and a development of student’s intellect. Furthermore, the emotional and ethical intelligence are recognized today as important components of what was narrowly called ‘IQ’, confined only to the rational faculty.
INDIA UNBOUNDIndia Unbound is the program which enlightens the student about the country, beyond the knowledge that they garner on a day-to-day basis. This unique program is designed to enable students to learn about the heritage and the culture of the country. It is meant to inculcate the principles of research methodology in the students and empower them to look at and analyze their own history and heritage scientifically.
Each project would be expected to contain deliverables in text and audiovisual form which would contribute to the college’s research archives.
SOCIAL CONNECTSocial Connect Activities provide a framework to the students to understand the importance of Social Work and NGO’s in our society. It also focuses on pressing issues in the country and the entire world which a student needs to understand for his/her holistic development.
The courses focuse mainly on NGO’s. Students learn the concept of why the Social Work is important, History of SocialWork, Benefits of a Social Organization and How did it evolve? How can people get involved and Funding - Generation of Funds, Staffing etc.
SELF DISCOVERY AND GROWTHELRI lab facilitates to explore the individual’s life experiences from childhood to adolescence to the present and discover that there are multiple meanings to the experiences at each stage.
The aim is to discover freedom from the bondage of past experiences and to find their relevance and relate to the world. As such, the ELRI focuses on societal values and the family socialization.
