1The Carpenter Hall First Floor is a space where students gather and pass through between classes. The existing space does not offer much, and is not used to its fullest potential. As a group, we designed a space where students would want to congregate and relax before class. The gallery space was given a much needed face-lift, which will allow for larger exhibits with different types of media. Color was introduced into the space and the idea of a habitat and a third place can be seen throughout this design. By using different types of seating and offering multiple places to do homework. This space is directed toward students and faculty. Due to the budget constraint, the materials picked for the space are natural and inexpensive. With this new design of the first floor of Washington State Universitys School of Design and Construction building, students would be able to have a place outside their studio environment where they could relax and catch up with friends. 2This is a weekend getaway designed for an aspiring chef. This home is in the Palouse and has amazing views from the south and southwest. One of my main ideas throughout this design was to really connect the outdoors to the indoor space. I wanted to focus on the kitchen and make it easy for the client to be able to have guests over and be in the kitchen, whether thats inside or out. The kitchen extends outside and curves around with the patio. There is a fireplace incorporated into the outdoor space as well as a garden with fresh herbs. Against the window of the kitchen, there are vines growing up the side which will create shadows on the inside that are constantly changing throughout the day with the sun. The floor plan was meant to be open and free and was designed around the view of the Palouse. My intentions for the entryway was to have the space open up to a captivating view and invite guests into the space.Junior Year, 2012

My inspiration for designing the depot was one of the benches in front of the depot. This space is designed for Tom Cramer, a Portland artist who creates wood relief paintings. His artwork ranges in sizes so he needs a gallery and studio that is suitable for varying artwork. In the gallery, the movable walls allow people to move throughout the space easily. In an interview, Tom said he prefers dark over light and night over day and wanted his gallery to focus on the artwork itself. Tom requested a studio where he could have a big storage space as well as the ability to vary his work-space throughout the year. He likes bigger studios during the summer and smaller studios during the winter to help with heating costs. I designed a studio for him that has movable walls, which allows the size to vary. In the residence, it is designed around ADA and visual impairment guidelines for Toms wife. The space is very simple and easy to navigate through. There are pops of color and lots of contrast to make it easier with a visual impairment. Every window has curtains to avoid glare from the sun.

4 Restore Beauty Inc. is designed around the Kaplan and Kaplan Attention Restoration Theory. Rachel and Stephen Kaplan discovered a theory that states that people feel rejuvenated and restored after spending time in nature. Extent, escape, capturing attention and compatibility are the four main ideas behind the theory. Restore Beauty Inc. is designed to make every woman feel welcome and comfortable while shopping for beauty supples. Shoppers will experience a naturalistic environment that will make them feel rejuvenated after shopping at Restore Beauty Inc. The goal of Restore Beauty Inc. is to combine a natural environment with a retail space in order to achieve a space that can be known as Retail Revival. With a retail revival design, the customer experience will be much like a spa, which allows them to forget about the outside world and enables the customer to leave feeling refreshed and restored.Senior Year, 2014

Longitudinal Section
The Audian Theater was once a place where college students would gather on the weekend to watch the latest movie, but it currently is a vacant building in downtown Pullman. Working alongside a potential buyer for the space, we transformed it into a restaurant and lounge where students and locals could gather during football games. Working with the concept of a third place, the space was purposely designed to be mismatched and home-like to encourage the inhabitant to stay for hours. There are three different levels in this design - one closest to the screen which has booth seating, sofas as well as small bar. The second level has the main bar, the kitchen and a variety of seating options. The third level has a VIP area, pool tables, and couches for additional seating. On weekdays, only the second and third level would be open for seating, but on game days, the entire space would be open, giving everyone a view of the screen. Overall, this space was designed to make college students feel at home where they could relax for hours.

6 Malama Law Office is a native peoples law office located in Maui, Hawaii has many aspects to their culture that you will not find in other parts of the world. One of their main focuses is Malama which is also known as family and sharing. Hawaiians go above and beyond when it comes to sharing. They will share everything from food, to housing, to raising each others children. This is one of the main concepts Malama Law Office is designed around. Inside the space there are no designated private space for each worker, however, there are numerous private conference rooms and work areas throughout the space that workers can meet with clients or make a private phone call. Overall, this space was designed to be inviting and relaxing that also would give the inhabitants motivation for going to work every day as well as protecting the native people of Hawaii.Senior Year, 2013
