Galway Marine InstituteAn architectural investigation born out of a search for context, a method of intervention reflective of a vernacular “untidy collection of artefacts” which lends “character” to a city such as Galway. The project explores a structural and perceptual layering of elements to manipulate varying ideas of publicity and privacy relating to functions of research, study, admin and presentation.

Inis MeainAn open brief design project on the Aran Islands

Landscape FurnitureShort listed, open brief, competition design. Addressing the movement of people across the dense dry stone wall landscape of Inis Meain. The “styles” of the drystone walls are a device or method of stacking the stones to allow people to climb over the walls so as not do disturb their delicate structure. Precast interlocking concrete steps, designed to relate to the geometry ergonomics and logistics of island living

The Future of ShannonThe Logic of the Architectural edifice in Shannon, bore the beginning of what was to develop my thesis through a drive for a rational of structure based on context. The interdependent system idea meant the physical presence of an intervention was physically as well as notionally essential to the stabilisation of the system it was propping up.

Limerick City LibraryPart 1 Design Project for a new Limerick City public library. The Library functions are organised around certain circulation principle diagrams. The project won an internal design competition, and was awarded by Limerick City Library Service, and by the Mayor of Limerick.

Limerick Dockland Regeneration Masterplan Part 1 Master-planning design scheme for the regeneration of an under utilized Limerick City dockland. A project aimed at an urban refocus of the city towards the Shannon river.

Networked City EmbassyA part diagram, part spatial conception of a reactive urban composition which spawns as the tangible product of a virtual system, within a dense city fabric. It supposes that a reflexive response is plausible to mediate between two juxtaposed system dynamics, the city, and the network. The former is slow, rigid and rooted in a visual context and connection, while the latter is variable, dynamic and embedded in a responsive system far beyond the realm or scope of conventional wisdom.

Limerick Street ParametricsThe idea of an urban machine, designed, located and mechanised by measurable data streams related to environmental, social, infrastructural and commercial requirements.

Page 7: Eamonn Kelly, Architecture Portfolio Samples

Clew Bay, Information UrbanismImage stills from part of my final thesis video. Located in Clew Bay County Mayo, the resulting design project was an attempt to bridge the gap between physical and virtual infrastructures, reappropriating new logic on to expired systems.

A temporal public data infrastructure, intends to unify the democratic exchange of data and knowledge to develop an understanding for the management of complex, global, socially interactive systems.www.planA.ie
