2012 found us building and rebuilding homes throughout the

New River Valley, including several at Claytor Lake.

We share this collection of images as we begin to celebrate our 25th year.

Custom Built Lake Ranch

Claytor Lake, Virginia 2012

With the long time family land under conservation easement and the owners being full time farmers, the emphasis for this home was a low impact building that would allow the homeowners to age in place..

Locally crafted cabinetry

The stone hearth complements the natural wood flooring and cabinetry.

The garage and bedroom wings embrace the front entry while the porch off the bedroom embraces the sun.

Intricate wood inlay.

Stone patio connects the inside with the yard.

Direct vent fireplace with custom mantel in bedroom.

Rounded drywallcorners soften the look.

Windows were upgraded to provide solar gain and still allow better insulation values.

Custom Built Lake Castle

Claytor Lake, Virginia 2012

A passive solar modern Mediterranean castle on the lake now sits on the site of anold cabin.

Graceful curve of the loft railing adds an artistic touch to the great room and balances the mass of the stone chimney.

Clients envisioned a castle and we worked with that theme.

Fewer openings face north as an added energy benefit to the castle bastion entry.

Locally produced Builderscrete pavers are low maintenance.

Custom site built central stair is a visual highlight from many viewpoints.

Small lot? Go vertical. Castle theme at the front fades to lake house theme at the back.

Practical lakeside ground floor access to outdoor and indoor shower.

Overhang above sliding doors doubles as catwalk for window cleaning.

With decks, patios, screen porch and basement level bar, the home is set up to take advantageof the lake side property.

Custom Built Lake Lodge

Claytor Lake, Virginia 2012A lake lodge to bring family together for generations to come

The timber frame adds warmth and a dramatic feel. Aiding in the lodge concept it also has the feel of a structure that will last.

The well balanced stone fireplace shows off a cherry mantel.

The pedestal for the sink is from a maple tree off the site.

The stair tower gives a light lofty feel at the entry while the antique canoe heads for points of the compass.

A custom curved grab railfollows down the stairs.

The master bath vanity sports a thick walnut slab for its counter.

The wide natural trim and wood doors add warmth and detail.

The light fixtures were chosen to reflect a nature theme and American Craftsman style.

The edge of the tile backsplash was customized to be more natural.

The basement bar area continues thestone look and serves the recreation room.

The master bedroom continues the woods theme with timber collar ties. A deck with hot tub is just outside the door.

Beautiful finishes cover efficient construction details.

Stone accents the exterior features matching this home to its wooded lakeshore site.

Home Remodel

Blacksburg, Virginia 2012

A complete energy efficient upgrade included geothermal heating, new insulation and new windows. New siding, a detached garage, and an outdoor kitchen add new amenities to this existing home.

The brick and stainless steel outdoor kitchen will serve for a long time with minimal maintenance.

The new patio and outdoor kitchen take advantage of the commanding view.

Interior remodeling included new kitchen and bathrooms, new flooring and fresh paint.

The new detached garage is tied into the landscape with brick walkways and plantings.

Post-Fire Rebuild

Christiansburg, Virginia 2012

Using modular construction allowed us to rebuild from a fire in a cost effective way

The front porch and back deck provide some outdoor living areas. The stick built garage allowedus to add a laundry room and storage area.

To customize this modular home, we installed flooring and lights selected by our client.

Project included relocating appliances and addition of new flooring and cabinets.

Kitchen Remodel

A modern remodel of a kitchen features custom wood finish cabinets that improve the work flow, incorporate space saving details, and add warmth to the look

removed, refurbished and reinstalled.

Pre-Move In Remodel

Blacksburg, Virginia 2012

A rework of floors, paneling and cabinetry give the home fresh, clean lines and an open feel

A wall of chalk paint for a child’s room makes a new space fun.

Some sections of wall were removed, and color added. Old kitchen flooring was replaced with oak and floors were refinished.

Locally crafted, custom fitted concrete countertops add a solid feel to the beauty of the new kitchen and sets off against the stainless steel backsplash tiles.

Attic Remodel

The rickety dark space above the garage was transformed into a bright office with views of the farm,

Ample storage was built into every corner.

New space is an extension off the master bedroom.

A new walk-in shower was completed to augment the bathroom remodel completed previously.

Open paned windows allow clear viewof the farm.

A drop out fire escape ladder is stored in the wall cavity under the window.

The quartz countertops are easy to maintain and tie the angled vanities together.

Bathroom Remodel

A crack in the existing shower floor was great motivation for a master bath makeover

The door was moved to allow a larger shower.

The glass doors provide a greater feeling of space.

The new tub takes up less space than the old tub but still serves its purpose.

Porch Remodel

Blacksburg, Virginia 2012The rotting floor and posts of the existing porch were replaced

New tile floor with a floor drain should last longer and require less maintenance than the old wood floor.

A ramp provides

access for the cat.

Lake Cabin Replacement

Claytor Lake Radford, Virginia 2012

A modest home with durable design and materials replaces a cabin beyond saving.

The rebuilt screen porch and stairs.

The Hardie board shingles and siding are highlighted by color choices.

New garage maintains style of house and provides space for a workshop.

The stamped concrete floor leads to the front door.

The old family home was remodeled for the next generation.

Foundation Remodel

Catawba, Virginia 2012

The old country farmhouse needed a new foundation

Two bedrooms were combined to form one large bedroom suite with new bath and closet.

Floors and paint were refreshed throughout.

This was the perfect time to add a basement.
