The Shield Conservatory iscomplete – in every sense ofthe word. Every componentin your new conservatory has

been formed from colourmatched materials. Reassuringly colour consistentfrom sill to finial.

To provide a complete and tidyfinish to any valley gutter, a‘clip on’ extrusion has beendesigned. This new profileincorporates side wings thatcloak the edges of the glazingbars and polycarbonate in thevalley. A bespoke valley endcap totally conceals the lowerend of the valley system, and is chamfered to match the end caps.

For that finishing touch, allend caps have a chamfero n t h e v i s i b l e f a c e t ocreate a more substantialappearance.

Even the polycarbonateclosure profile has beendesigned to co-ordinateperfectly with the glazing bartop cap.

One of the most visuallyencapsulating aspects of aconservatory is the cresting.

The uniquely sculpturedShield Cresting not onlybeautifies your home butalso provides performancelongevity. The interlockingPVCu sections incorporatean interlock that ensuresonce connected it retains aperfect line. Even theinterlock is shaped as awater shroud!

The Shield Finial fastensdirectly into the ridge topcap, not through it. At nopoint along the pinnacle ofyour Shield Conservatory isthere a hole for water topenetrate through to theinside of your new room.

Once again not onlymaking the installationeasier and quicker, but more importantlyallowing you theinvaluable peace ofmind that your roofcannot be unboltedfrom outside.

Why Conservatorieshave not always beenbuilt this way we don’tknow, but we doknow the way they willbe built in future!

When the designerscreated the blueprintsfor the Sh ie ldConservatory, one ofthe initial objectiveswas to produce asecure Conservatorythat could be boltedfrom inside thebuilding, not outside!Th i s pre-requisitea l so enab led theapplication of a largeM8 bolt.

the revolutionaryturnbuckle

Antiquated methods ofscrewing the roof on top ofwindows and doors aredismissed with a ShieldConservatory. Because theShield Conservatory is aConservatory and not a roof, there is no compromise.

Eaves beam details areproduced to house a uniqueand precision formedturnbuckle mechanism. Thisnot only speeds theinstallation but carefully andsecurely knits the buildingtogether, seamlessly.

All Shield external cappingswith woodgrain finishes arefoiled onto powder coatedaluminium. So when yourconservatory is subjected todirect sunlight it does notwarp and distort, which risksthe structural integrity andweather fastness.

as simple as abc

Many conservatory roof designersdismiss guttering as 'something forgutter producers to worry about'. Of course Shield is not a conservatory roof, it is a COMPLETECONSERVATORY, so a choice of twoguttering systems have been designedto complement the style of your newroom. Our guttering systems aredesigned exclusively for theconservatory, as opposed to usingproprietory housing gutters. Thesculptured Shield ‘swing fit’ option hasan extruded fixing hook that eliminates

the need for unsightly, less efficientgutter brackets that have to be locatedat centres around the conservatory, andcan produce a sagging effect after time. This gutter is fixed along its entire length and will not sag.

Additionally, we took this opportunity tocloak off the area between the eaves beam and conservatory wall. This cohesive, colour matched blendcan never be achieved with alternativeroof-on-windows products.

boxing clever

Many conservatories require structuralbox gutter components.

Achieving structural integrity with aproduct that has to hold a conservatorytogether, and reduce condensation istricky. Shield has re-written the rulebook for box gutters using a clever twin-skin design. Producing a strongerproduct it also creates an air gap thatvirtually eliminates the risk ofcondensation.

Simple ideas are often the mosteffective. Shield incorporates a fixingplate designed to ensure that all Shieldbox gutters are installed quickly andsecurely. The fixing plate also eliminatesthe occurrence of weak or inadequatefixings. With most systems there is aninherent difficulty in trying to apply a boltin tight areas - once again Shieldimproves the structural stability of theconservatory and ensures it is securelyintegrated with the house.

Page 47: Shield Brochure

No two conservatories are exactly the same. Sothe Shield Conservatory portfolio comprises ofthree alternative ridge details. The popular fixed25˚ ridge, sub 25˚, and even a detail to allowridges of up to 35˚.

Each of these designs house three seals againstthe elements. Seals that remain entirelyuncompromised in whichever pitch, glazingthickness, or design you choose.

Success will not lower its standards to us. We must raise our standard to successRev. Randall R.McBride, Jr

Established conservatoryinstallers have to look twiceon first seeing a ShieldConservatory. They areaccustomed to seeingholes.

While creating a conservatorythat securely bolts from theinside, we took the opportunityto eliminate holes through theglazing bars. It has becomecustomary to accept at least 4holes per rafter, but with Shield there are none.

The captive bolt mechanismlocated at the base of therafter also abolishes the risk ofwater penetration through‘fixing holes’.

Even the simple clip and spring fit mechanism with jack rafters works without theneed for holes in the roof ofyour new room.

All gauges of Shield GlazingRafters have been designedto the same overalldimension. Allowing forseamless cross utilisationwithin the same building,

Shield’s built-in versatilityhelps transform your dreamsinto reality.

The map shows wind speedsacross the UK in metres persecond. The effect that windhas on a roof is in directcontrast to the effect thatsnow has. As wind blowsacross the roof an area ofpressure builds up insidewhilst low pressureaccumulates outside. Thiscreates an uplifting effect ora negative force.

Physical Properties of PVC-U Type A MaterialGrade Ref: SYN10 White 01

Sound Installation: 30 dB minimum.

Thermal Conductivityat 20 deg C: Typical test value 0.16 W/M deg C. PVC-U has a low thermal

conductivity, and is virtually constant over a wide temperature range.Fire Classification/Performance: PVC-U is a difficult material to burn which decreases the likelihood and

development of fire “When exposed to a flame, PVC-U carbonises without burning or producing droplets, and it has been established that Synseal profiles can be used to achieve a Class 1 surface spread of flame rating to BS476: Part 7.”

Heat Reversion: To BS 7413 clause 5.5 (Test method: 1 Hr at 100 deg C).When tested in accordance with Annex F, the mean maximum reversion value for individual samples shall not be greater than 2% for profiles and 3% for glazing beads.

Heat Ageing: To BS 7413 clause 5.7 (Test method: 30 mins. at 5 deg C).When tested in accordance with Appendix H, the profile shall show no bubbles, cracks or de-lamination.

Resistance of Impactat Low Temperature: To BS 7413 clause 5.6 (Test method ikg from 1.5m at -10 deg C).

When mainframe, casement and sash profiles are tested in accordance with appendix G, no sample shall exhibit cracking through the entire wall thickness of the profiles on either face.

Heat Resistance /Softening Point: To BS 7413. When tested to BS EN ISO 306 (BS2782-1: Method 120B)

Minimum vicat 5kg softening point: 75 deg C. Typical result 82 deg C. This is well above the requirements of the UK and German specifications.
