Benjamin Yudin, Rabbi Andrew Markowitz, Associate Rabbi Shomrei Torah Shabbat Reeh - Shabbat Mevarchim 27 Av, 5777/ August 18-19, 2017 PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN: In Honor of Parshat Reeh In conjunction with the Beit Hamikdash the Torah does not simply say to go there and bring your korbanot, but lshichno sidrishu you are to seek out His presence and come there” (12:5). How is this to be observed once we have a Beit Hamikdash? Rav Hutner zl in his Pachad Yitzchak R.H. (5:3,4) cites the Gemara Sotah (22a) where we are taught everything being equal, if one has a choice of two Synagogues he should go to the farther one as he will get more sechar psios, reward of literally more steps. Rav Hutner quotes the Maharal who says that this law applies only to a Beit Haknesset, but not to walk the extra distance to fulfill the mitzvah of Sukkah. The difference being, the mitzvah of Sukkah is an action mitzvah i.e., the mitzvah is fulfilled by sitting in the Sukkah. Tefillah on the other hand is to establish a relationship with Hashem and this already begins in walking to Shul. Similarly, as a chatan walks to meet his kallah, the excitement begins when he leaves his home. Perhaps as you walk to Shul, hum the tune ashreinu matov chelkeinu”, how fortunate and privileged we are to walk to His home. NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS This week marked the last week of our regular Summer session. We had lots of fun with our favorite train activities. The children made a train by putting their hands on each other's shoulders and danced and sang around the shul building. We painted pictures of trains and sponge painted on cutouts of trains. We enjoyed our favorite camp sports with Michael and sang our silliest Summer songs during Music time with Karen. The high-light of our week was our End of Summer Bash! The children and their families enjoyed dinner and participated in games and crafts including Pin the Tail on the Donkey, dot painting, beading and designing animal faces. The children performed some of their favorite songs and of course every-one went home with a gift and a smile! We ended the week with a special Shabbat party. We would like to thank Morah Rebecca, Morah Etty, Morah Regina, Risa, Linit and Yoni for a wonderful summer for the children. We have one more week of Summer fun during our Summer extension week beginning on Monday. Enjoy the rest of the Summer! Shabbat Shalom!
