November 26, 2018 Dear Judson ISD Team, I hope that each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and you were able to spend time relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends. While the profession of educating children always keeps us moving, we are about to enter some very busy weeks. But most of us thrive on being busy and working hard to get the job done. Before the break, I was able to spend some time at Elolf Elementary with some wonderful teachers and students. Every time I get the opportunity to spend time with students I am reminded of how important our job is. As you all know educators wear many hats. Not only do we educate but we teach some of the basic fundamentals of being a good human being. Carol Harris, a teacher at Elolf Elementary, started a wonderful literacy effort called the Book Tasting Club. It encourages students to ?taste? books by being able to see, read, and discuss different books before they decide which book to select. Before the Book Tasting Club met this particular day, I was able to hear an amazing book entitled, Each Kindness . This unforgettable book was written and illustrated by the award-winning author Jaqueline Woodson and E.B. Lewis. The book has a powerful anti-bullying message that every student should hear. In the story, Chloe and her friends refuse to play with the new girl, Maya. Every time Maya tries to join Chloe and her friends, they reject her. Eventually Maya stops coming to school. When Chloe's teacher gives a lesson about how even small acts of kindness can change the world, Chloe is stung by the lost opportunity for friendship, and thinks about how much better it could have been if she'd only shown a little kindness toward Maya. I'm happy to tell you that Elizabeth Stamper with Scholastic is making it possible for each elementary campus to have a copy of this story. This book is a reminder of the importance to show kindness to everyone at all times. Sometimes we forget that the small acts of kindness mean so much. That can change everything. Join me this week engaging in acts of kindness. That example will model to our students how important kindness is to this world. Dear Judson ISD Team ,

I hope that each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and you were able to spend time relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends.

Before the Book Tasting Club met this particular day, I was able to hear an amazing book entitled, Each Kindness. This unforgettable book was written and illustrated by the award-winning author Jaqueline Woodson and E.B. Lewis. The book has a powerful anti-bullying message that every student should hear. When Chloe's teacher gives a lesson about how even small acts of kindness can change the world, Chloe is stung by the lost opportunity for friendship, and thinks about how much better it could have been if she'd only shown a litt le kindness toward Maya.

I'm happy to tell you that Elizabeth Stamper with Scholastic is making it possible for each elementary campus to have a copy of this story. This book is a reminder of the importance to show kindness to everyone at all times. Sometimes we forget that the small acts of kindness mean so much. That can change everything.
