10 Student Feedback mechanisms on Institutional Governance/Faculty
performance
Online students’ feedback system on faculty performance is in place. At the end of each semester, all students appraise the
performance of faculty in various subjects on a 30-point scale. If
the performance falls below 22 points, the concerned faculty
members are counseled by the review committee
11 Grievance redressal mechanism for
faculty, staff and students
Faculty and staff can bring their grievances to the notice of their
respective Heads of the Departments. Heads will address the issues, if they are within their purview or else they will be
addressed by the Principal and Director of the Institute.
Elections are held every year for the selection of student representatives for each class of the department. However, the
students can directly meet the Head of the Department, Deans,
Principal or Director for the redressal of the problems.

Departmental Achievements Departmental Achievements
MCA department started as a full fledged department
from 1994.
Following are the strengths of the department :
The department was granted academic autonomy
from Govt. of Karnataka and VTU during 2008
The department has qualified, competent, well
experienced and dedicated faculty.
The department provides very good teaching –
learning ambience.
On the very first day of every semester lesson plan
for each subject and calendar of events are distributed
to the students by respective teachers.
Each class room is equipped with department 3 LCD
projectors to cater to effective utilization of Audio –
Visual aids for teaching
The department regularly organizes expert lectures
by inviting resource persons from reputed institutes
like IISc., IIITB and also from the Industry(Infosys,
TCS, Mind-Tree, Wipro, HP, McAfee Software India
Ltd. etc.).
All the systems in the department are connected to
internet through 2 mbps leased line.
The department regularly organizes in-house training
for teachers. The week long faculty development
program held at the beginning of each semester
facilitates the up gradation of knowledge of the
faculty.
MCA students are regularly trained on Industrial
practices by the Industrial Competency
Laboratory(ICL) at the Institute. Majority of the
students pursue their final semester project work in
ICL.
The Institute has MOUs’ with Infosys, M/s TCS and
M/s Robosoft Bangalore. The faculty members of
MCA department actively involve as resource
persons in the training programs sponsored by these
organizations.
The faculty members of the department have
published quite a good number of research papers
during the last three years. These publications include
20 papers in International Journals, 4 papers in
National Journals, 40 Papers in International
Conferences and more than 20 papers in National
Conferences.
The faculty members of department are regularly
invited as resource persons by IT companies other
institutions.
The department successfully organized fourth and
fifth Indian International Conference on Artificial
Intelligence during Dec. 18-21, 2009 and December
14-16, 2011 respectively. In both the conferences
around 150 selected papers were presented by several
delegates from foreign Nations , NRI’s and Indian
researchers from reputed Institutions like IIT’s and
IIIT’s and NIT’s.
Department encourages students to publish papers in
National and International conferences. So far, more
than 20 papers have been published by students.
The students of the department are consistently
getting University ranks.
To hone the writing skills of the students,
department publishes news letter named ”INFO-
VISTA” every semester.
To encourage the students, intradepartmental contests
namely, know your C capacity, technical essay
writing and technical impromptu for I/II Sem , III/IV
Sem , V Sem respectively are regularly organized.
Students of the department are getting internships in
reputed organizations like ABB, Aricent, ISRO,
BHEL, Wipro , i-focus E-exceed etc.
All eligible students are being placed in reputed IT
companies.

Facilities
The classrooms by design are highly interactive. Classrooms are equipped with
latest audio-visual aids such as LCD
projectors and OHPs to make teaching–
learning more interactive and effective.

The department has computer centers
with latest configuration systems. All the computers are networked with 2
mbps leased line with OFC back bone.
Each faculty member is provided with a desktop PC with internet connectivity.

The library has a total area of 1500 square meters with a seating capacity of 450.

16 Boys Hostel
S.I.T. has 6 boys hostels (4 inside the campus and 1 in town)
accommodating 1570 Boys. Each hostel block is managed
under the supervision of a Deputy Warden who is a faculty
member of S.I.T. He is assisted by managers and workers.
Each room in all the hostels has been furnished with cots,
tables, chairs, book racks and a ceiling fan. Parents and
guardians of the students are being provided accommodation in guest rooms on nominal rent, Whenever they visit the
Institute and wish to stay during their visits. They are also
permitted to use the mess facilities in the hostels. The
faculty of the Department visits regularly the hostels to ensure that the students utilize their time on studies
productively.

S.I.T. Group of Hostels run 2 gir ls hostels outside the
campus.

Medical & Other Facilities at Hostel
To cater to medical needs of girls students, two lady doctors daily visit girls’ hostels. A full time resident medical officer attends to
the needs of boys, faculty and staff.

Cultural activities Students of the department are participating in other College festivals
and conferences .Department of MCA is conducting State level
student symposium named BROSWE every year. A cultural Program “SPANDANA” is organized every year
during odd semester.
The institute organizes Inter-collegiate Fest named “Halcyon”
every year during even semester. Students are encouraged to participate in other College festivals.
Sports activities Students participate in inter collegiate, zonal and university level
tournaments held in the institute and other institutes.
18 Counselling / Mentoring Proctorial system is in place. A group of 20 students are assigned to a faculty member. Proctors meet the students once a
month and enquire about any academic or other problems. They
counsel the students in case of any difficulty. They offer guidance in study planning and help in solving their problems.
Every week a psychiatrist also counsels students who have
learning disorders. Softskill Development Facilities: The department recognizes that communication skills and self-confidence are two important qualities for a successful professional. Therefore, all the students of I and II years are given complete training in oral and written communication which will help them develop their self-esteem through systematic group activities. Students of higher semesters are provided training in writing general technical aptitude tests, group discussions, facing interviews and in general preparing them to face the campus recruitment process. All the above training programmes are yielding results and a large number of students are getting jobs through campus recruitment in reputed industries.

functioning. Alumni have instituted gold medals for topers of the courses
under autonomous scheme.
