TeacherTeacher’’s Notess NotesThis resource includes two board games for your students to practice Pre-Primer Dolch words.

There are forty words on the Pre-Primer Dolch words list. The list was divided intwo groups and each board game allows your students to practice one of thetwo groups.

You will need dice and game markers to play these games.

Game 1 instructions:

Students take turns rolling a dice and moving the number of spaces shown onthe dice. As they count the spaces, they read each of the words. For example,if they roll 3 right at the beginning, they will move three spaces and read thewords “a”, “and”, and “away”.

If they land on a “move back 2” space, they will move their markers twospaces back. If they land on a “move forward 2” space, they will move theirmarker 2 spaces forward.

The goal of the game is to reach the orange “Finish” space having read all thewords on the board.

Game 2 instructions:

Student take turns rolling a dice and moving the number of spaces shown onthe dice. Like in game 1, every time they move their marker, they need toread the words they pass.

If they land on a “go up” space, they have to follow the “squiggly line” up tothe other space. If they land on a “go down” space, they need to follow thesquiggly line down to the other space.

The goal of the game is to reach the orange “Finish” oval having read all thewords on the board game.

The students will have fun playing the game without realizing that they arepracticing their recognition of sight words.
