A History of SilvermereAs well as being a naturally exciting back drop for golfers Silvermere Lake also has an interesting history we can all be proud of
In 1939 Barnes Wallis started his research into targeting the enemyrsquos power supplies thus destroying their ability to wage war In April 1942 he was ready to start early testing on his garden patio in Effingham Surrey Later that month he chose Silvermere Lake as the location for his first catapult experiments in an effort to find alternative ways of placing the required amount of explosives adjacent to a dam wall
More experiments took place later in May 1942 securing Silvermere Lake as a place of historical interest Operation Chastise was carried out during May 1943 and an attack on German Dams ensued and was ultimately a success Barnes Wallis and the intensely brave Dambuster Squadron were instrumental in allied victory and itrsquos nice to know that our very own Silvermere Lake had its own contribution to make towards the war effort

We are the most accessible golf centre in the South East Set amongst some of Surreyrsquos finest countryside the Par-71 course winds through dense woodland open parkland and finishes with a couple of tricky shots across the stunning Silvermere Lake It is undoubtedly one of the most challenging public courses in the region and is beautifully maintained by our dedicated team of Greenkeepers for you to enjoy seven days a week

The Golf CourseThe tree-lined golf course at Silvermere is a true test of golf located in the heart of Surrey The first six holes are sure to get the pulse racing with tight fairways challenging approaches and great views
However the course is probably most renowned for the 17th and 18th holes which are played over Silvermere Lake The 18th hole finishes into a semi-island green that has been recently re-built offering a spectacular finishing hole For players there is the thrill of hitting over the lake onto the island target For the visitors enjoying the Inn on the Lake there is always the hope of watching another ball confined to a watery grave
The course was designed by Neil Coles and Brian Hugget and opened for play in 1976 Whilst it is not a long course by modern standards the combination of tree lined fairways and the succession of water holes makes it a particularly challenging course

The Golf CourseThe tree-lined golf course at Silvermere is a true test of golf located in the heart of Surrey The first six holes are sure to get the pulse racing with tight fairways challenging approaches and great views
However the course is probably most renowned for the 17th and 18th holes which are played over Silvermere Lake The 18th hole finishes into a semi-island green that has been recently re-built offering a spectacular finishing hole For players there is the thrill of hitting over the lake onto the island target For the visitors enjoying the Inn on the Lake there is always the hope of watching another ball confined to a watery grave
The course was designed by Neil Coles and Brian Hugget and opened for play in 1976 Whilst it is not a long course by modern standards the combination of tree lined fairways and the succession of water holes makes it a particularly challenging course

Our smaller ground floor Waterside Suite is ideal for intimate receptions with close friends and family
We are now delighted to introduce our Island marquee located on the waterrsquos edge with the facility to create a once in a lifetime treat with every aspect of the day just as you want it to be
Our tailored menus have been chosen for every occasion and range from delicious canapeacutes delectable buffet spreads and traditional 3 course menus
