Sizing for Water-jet Weaving
Textile Effects1110015E
Water-jet Weaving
Tsudakoma ZW405 water-jet loom
In water-jet weaving the weft is transported across the loom using a jet of water.
The size on the warp yarn must, therefore, be resistant to the effect of cold water, not soften or become sticky.
It must also be easy to remove in water during desizing.

Requirements Of A Water Jet Size
• Suitable form for application–– water soluble prior to application
•• Dry to an insoluble film –– with good filament adhesion–– non blocking–– minimum deposit–– low sensitivity to cold water
•• Readily desized–– removed easily by scouring in mild alkali

Mechanism for Polyester Resin
1 Product dispersed in water (after heating)
2 Dried film insoluble in cold water (differential thermal solubility)
3 Product re-disperses readily in hotwater
