The exhibition is cosponsored by the Georgia Art Education Association and the Office of the Secretary of State. It is also the largest student exhibit in the state that allows students from all schools and art centers in Georgia to display their creative artworks to the public. The Capitol Hill Art Exhibition was a memorably one for SKA, and especially for one of its students – Ava Leavitt. Ava is a first-grader at Shiloh Point who has attended SKA since she was five years old. Her art, entitled ‘Trust’ was selected to be among the top 16 students of SKA to participate in this exhibition. Ava has also received written RSVPs from the Honorable Mike Dudgeon, state representative for South Forsyth and Senator Jack Murphy. The office of the Honorable Saxby Chambliss, the senior U.S. Senator from Georgia, left a phone message at Ava’s home with regrets that he would be in Washington. Ava Leavitt – A Shining Example of a Young Artist

The 2011 Capitol Hill Art Exhibition is finally coming to a grand close on the 26th of February 2011. Forsyth County News, and her school, Shiloh Point also did a cover of her story in its morning news.

At the same time, Ava was also selected as a 2011 state winner in the River of Words Environmental Poetry and Art Contest. This contest helps youth and children explore the natural and cultural history of the place they live, and express, through poetry and art, what they discover from their exploration. The award ceremony will be held on 15th May at the Chattahoochee Nature Centre at 3.00 p.m. It is a great achievement for her, and it also shows that art can be incorporated into various other meaningful aspects of life such as nature and the environment.

As quoted by Kimberly, Ava’s mother, ‘Thanks so much for being such a great teacher!  Ava would just be drawing stick figures without you.’ However, the level of excellence of art does not depend only on the teacher, but also the student. Ava Leavitt is indeed a shining example of an SKA student who is passionate about art and does not hesitate to realize her passion. She currently has her art displayed at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport and the Atlanta Zoo. For the artwork she submitted to the Capitol Hill Exhibition, she hopes that her drawing will inspire children and adults alike to start and take action to make the world a better place.

SKA is proud of its students for participating in such meaningful events where the love and passion for art is shared between the citizens of Georgia. Through this exhibition, SKA students can surely gain loads of valuable experience from having their artworks displayed in the outside world and this will also boost their confidence in art.

SKA Academy’s goal is to cultivate the potential and interest of art among children and let them blossom into full-fledged young artists. To achieve this, SKA will provide high-quality art and design education towards all its students. Besides, in SKA, the teacher and student will work together to ensure that the student gains sufficient knowledge, skills and artistic ability to create more amazing pieces of art in the future. Let us all hope that Ava’s example will motivate the other students to keep on persevering at their dream of becoming an artist!
