1. MISSION
Skhunyana Training Consultants (STC) aim is to promote sustainable livelihoods through
skills development.

3. BACKGROUND
Skhunyana Training Consultants (STC) is a company initiated and registered as Close
Corporation in 2005. STC was established to make a meaningful contribution towards
capacity building; small business development; project management needs faced by
many Community Based Initiatives and emerging entrepreneurs and public sector
divisions that are addressing the socio-economic development.
STC has an adequate experience in the field of Community Development; Small Micro
Medium Enterprise; Public Sector development. STC is situated in Port Shepstone,
KwaZulu Natal Province.
4. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE
The strategic objective of STC is to strengthen the Community Based Organisations;
Small Micro Medium Enterprises; Public Sector, through accessibility to (financial,
physical) resources that will enable these sectors to function efficiently and effectively.

6. METHODOLOGY
STC ensures maximum participation of the beneficiaries in its programmes. The
language of the beneficiaries is used as mode of communication during facilitation and
training, because it accommodates people to take part in the learning process. The
main advantage is that the staff members of STC speak the local language that makes it
easier for everyone to communicate freely during interaction.
Methods such as role-plays and illustrations often help people assimilate concepts for
better if they were to learn through lecture method. Audiovisuals are also used if they
are relevant to the subject matter.

7.1.1 Policy Development
STC facilitates the development of policies and procedures on behalf of clients who
would like to develop policy manuals also referred to as Quality Management Systems
or Total Quality Management. The approach used by STC during the execution of policy
development is as follows:

STC offers feasibility studies for client who wants to ascertain the impact of a project

The capacity building that is offered by STC is comprehensive in nature, in a

Project Cycle Management (PCM) targets the Project Managers and Project
Teams; PCM mainly focus on seven classic steps of developing Logical

7.4 Small Medium & Micro Enterprises Development
7.4.1 Small Business Development
Small Business Development is quite imperative in ensuring the sustainability of
Emerging Entrepreneurs Businesses and Income generating Projects. Small
Business Development focuses on three fields: Traders, Producers and Service
Providers, STC use the material from Micro MBA & Incorporates Trident
Institute, thus providing accreditation as the material and STC Trainer is
accredited with Service Sector for Education and Training Authority (SETA), the
Trainer’s qualification NQF Level 7.
The course is made up of 8 user-friendly workbooks forming 8 Modules the three
above fields use these books designed according to each field:

Book 4: Costing and Pricing
Book 5: Selling
Book 6: Business Plan
Book 7: Money Management

The course is offered in both English and isiZulu but; on completion of the course
participants receive an accredited Diploma under NQF Level 2.
STC assist the Emerging Entrepreneurs in developing Tailor-Made Business Plan,
and identify sources of finance for entrepreneurs. STC provides Support and
After Care to the Emerging Entrepreneurs to ensure the sustainability of the
businesses.

STC offers the above mentioned course, which mainly targets the new entrants

Factors that influence productivity. This programme is more on providing
practical support and after care where emerging entrepreneurs are able to
implement their productivity improvement utilising practical tools.

Basic Marketing Training mainly focuses on empowering the emerging
entrepreneurs with the required skills to market their product. The course

programme Andile has assisted a number of SMMEs to inculcate the culture of productivity.
Professional Business Writing Skills obtained from the course implemented by Regenesys School
of Public Management. This course has enable Andile to compile bankable business plans which
were financed by financial institutions and funding proposals which were financed by Funders
on behalf of clients and clear report writing skills.

9.3 The Research Specialist
The Research Specialist is Drusilla Mukasa.

Has done many informal short courses which include Management and Leadership, Finance
Management, Project Management, Labour Relations, Change Management, Strategic Planning,
Community Development and mapping.
Holds a Bachelors degree in Business Management and Human Resource and a Junior Book
keeping Certificate.
Experience:
Has wide experience in managing a government office who, in practice has been engaged at
managing day to day operations of a government statistical agency (Statistics South Africa) at a
provincial level of about 50 permanent staff members and up to about 17000 temporary staff
members during some projects like Population Censuses. In that regard ,she has years of
practical experience managing and leading cross functional teams on key projects which include
field work operations and data processing. In this regard, she has years of experience in strategic
planning, developing and monitoring budgets of about 15 million rand, establishing and
monitoring productivity goals, recruitment processes, performance management processes, on
job capacity building, preparing progress reports, conducting meetings, presentations, report
writing and communication to different levels of external stakeholders e.g. the general public,
senior government officials, academicians from high educational institutions, scholars etc.
Has been part of the task team which has been engaged in processes of implementation of the
new provincial and district structures. In this regard she has practical experience in developing
job descriptions, applying processes of change management which include developing
implementation plans, organization structure development and processes of the provincial and
district offices.
Is generally well versed with the government policies and procedures in the area of Human
Resource, Finance and Procurement. In this regard she has gained practical experience through
managing a provincial and district /regional offices by being responsible for general
administration of the offices which include all co operate service activities.
Has wide experience in working with all types of settlements which include rural tribal areas,
farm areas, peri urban and Urban areas having worked in the former Transkei and also managing
a Statistical Office of Kwazulu Natal at a Provincial level.
Has wide experience working in the areas of mapping , demarcation and listing after managing
four population censuses and many sample Surveys under Statistics South Africa.
Has knowledge of different cultures having worked in Kenya; Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal
Provinces of South Africa and Southern Sudan .

Has experience in consultancy while working among disadvantaged and traumatized
communities having worked in Southern Sudan on their 2008 Population Census as a Technical

Has worked with an NGO as a Fund Raising Volunteer for six months and then as a Project
Manager for one year and this experience has resulted in having skills in working among
disadvantaged communities and community development.
Has worked with some NGOs assisting them on questionnaire designing and fund raising
proposals.

The Project Manager is Sbusiso Cele. Sbusiso is well acquainted with managing SMME Development,
