SLOW FOOD ECENUR BLGL ESRA STNDA DLARA BYKSOY ALEYNA MACT 10A Slow Food was started by Carlo Petrini and a group of activists in the 1980s with the initial aim to defend regional traditions, good food, gastronomic pleasure and a slow pace of life. The Slow Movement began with a protest against the opening of a McDonald's restaurant in Rome. This sparked the creation of the Slow Food organization. CREATION OF SLOW FOOD Slow Food is an international non-profit, eco-gastronomic, member- supported organization founded to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and peoples dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Their approach is based on a concept of food that is defined by 3 interconnected principles: GOODCLEAN FAIR It tastes good and gives us pleasure to eat it. Slow Food Switzerland is created. 1993 1996 Ark of Taste project is created. It catalogues food at risk of being wiped out by the industrialized food system. Today there are 947 products on the ark. 2000 The Slow food Presidia project is launched. It includes projects to support groups of small-scale producers of selected Ark of Taste. 2003 The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity is formed. 2004 The first edition of Terra Madre the world meeting of food communities is held concurrently with the Salone del Gusto in Turin, Italy, attracting about 5,000 delegates from 130 countries. Slow Food Japan is created. 2007 The fifth International Slow Food Congress is held in Puebla, Mexico, with 600 international delegates. The first Markt des guten Geschmacks, Slow Food Germany's fair of good, clean and fair food, is held in Stuttgart.Markt des guten Geschmacks 2008 The Earth Markets, a global network of farmers markets, is created.Earth Markets Slow Food NetherlandsSlow Food Netherlands is created. 2011 The Slow Europe campaign is launched, calling for European policies that promote sustainability, biodiversity protection and support for small-scale farmers.Slow Europe Regional Terra Madre meetings are held in Armenia, Austria, South Korea, Crimea, Japan, Russia and Switzerland. 2013 The ESSEDRA (Environmentally Sustainable Socio- Economic Development of Rural Areas) project is launched to map the food biodiversity of the Balkans.ESSEDRA Today, Slow Food represents a global movement involving thousands of projects and millions of people in over 160 countries.
