KENMORE AIREvery once in a while you need to come up with an extra special getaway – a short trip to "wow" your Significant Other and prove that the spark is still there. In the Pacific Northwest there are many options, but one of the most unique getaways combines two distinctly Northwest experiences: a visit to Victoria, BC in Canada and a ride to Victoria on one of Kenmore Air's float planes. The seaplane trip to Victoria takes just about 45 minutes as it climbs out from Kenmore Air’s South Lake Union terminal located next door to McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant on Westlake. As you fly just a couple thousand feet above the city and Puget Sound, you’ll travel a scenic route that gives a birds-eye view of many popular islands and tourist destinations scattered through the sound. It's fascinating to see how many houses are built in secluded spots only visible from the air. It's fun to look down on the Victoria Clipper or other boat traffic plying the waters in this gorgeous part of Washington State. The last few minutes are spent crossing the 20-mile-wide Strait of Juan de Fuca – the closest thing Puget Sound has to open sea, and the pathway for major shipping leaving Seattle for Asia and other ports of call around the world. Soon you’re swooping down toward the Inner Harbour where your pilot skillfully finds an open stretch of water for a quick and smooth landing. The city of Victoria is one of the most interesting in the Northwest – and one of the easiest to see because hotels, shopping and attractions are all clustered around the Inner Harbour. Picture postcard views of the Empress Hotel, Parliament, double-decker buses, flower displays and charm-ing historic buildings all combine to give Victoria the feel of a far-off visit to Great Britain.Kenmore Air provides daily year-round scheduled seaplane service between Seattle’s South Lake and Victoria’s Inner Harbour. For reservations and package specials call 425-486-1257 or online at KenmoreAir.com

For many, the thought of enjoying a delicious Thai meal immediately brings to mind a visit to SIAM. For well over twenty years, SIAM Thai Cuisine has been pleasing palates and filling bellies with the aromatic flavors of Thailand.

Through the years the restaurant has moved loca-tion and now stands in an ultramodern space just a block from its previous location. Here a contempo-rary look brings together modern circular lighting, apple green accented seats, and an extensive bar area with the sports channel viewable on three flat screen TVs, ideal for those dropping in for some takeout or to spend an evening drinking and eat-ing away.

Affordable lunch specials ($8.95) include several choices such as the Siam Delight (bamboo shoots, mushrooms, peanuts, baby corn, and white wine with any selection of meat) or the staple and highly popular Phad See Eew (wide rice noodles stir-fried

For heavier or lighter meals, an abundance of appe-tizers, soups and salads, curries, noodles, vegetables, stir fried dishes, and more are available.

To start, you can never go wrong with Tom Yum Goong ($7.50 small/$10 large) a spicy, clear, hot and sour soup cooked with lemon grass, galangal, lime leaves, straw mushrooms, chili paste, and the succulent sweetness of shrimp.

Regulars rave about the Jungle Chicken ($13.50), a plate of delectable, crispy fried chicken quickly stir-fried in a tangy, sweet and spicy garlic-chili sauce; pineapple; bell peppers; and fried basil leaves.

The Panang Curry ($11) always pleases with a thick

red curry sauce that is slowly cooked with coconut milk, maroon lime leaves, onions, bell peppers, and then textured with ground peanuts, served with any meat desired.

Crab Fried Rice ($15) is a treat as jasmine rice is stir-fried with egg and delicate chunks crab meat, served with fresh tomatoes, cucumber, green on-ions, and cilantro.

CORNISH COLLEGE OF THE ARTS

A pioneer in arts education, Cornish College of the Arts sprang from the remarkable vision of Nellie Cornish, a woman determined to cultivate the arts in Seattle when it was scarcely more than a frontier town. Her philosophy of educating the artist through exposure to all the arts was progressive at the time, and continues to be innovative today. The College offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Art, Dance, Design, Performance Production and Theater, and a Bachelor of Music degree. The College is accred-ited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

EUROSTYLE“We started with a simple idea: What if a store carried only well designed products that were manufactured indigenously? Meaning, if it is designed in Europe, or the U.S. or Canada, it is indeed manufactured in Europe, the U.S. or Canada. Simply put-no outsourcing of the manufacturing. -Would there be a difference in quality? -Could we find products that meet our criteria? -Would customers care where their goods were made? The answer is a resounding YES! The result is Eurostyle your life, a store where our unique products tell unique stories. We seek out designers whose products are new to the PacNW area, and we are often the sole distributor of them. Come and visit our store on Westlake Avenue, or our sister store on 34th in Fremont, and we will share the stories of our design products.”

WESTLAKE WOODWERK"Who manufactured the last toy you purchased? At Westlake Woodwerk (formerly the Giving Tree for 18 years), we design and craft our wooden toys. Come and visit our woodworking shop on Westlake and with our floor to ceiling windows, you can watch Marty, John, Karl, Paul and Wally practice this centuries old craft in downtown Seattle. We share a storefront with Eurostyle your life, who rescued us. Our wood is high quality, and

our toy finishes and glues are safe. Our Wa. State ferries have been shipped all over the globe. Located between Farestart and Mistral Kitchen."
