Target Learners? The target learners for the Smart Exchange

lesson plan I chose would be grades 1-12

This lesson plan is easily adaptable to a wide range of grades by: Giving more difficult or more basic examples of

figurative language It can be used as a introduction to figurative

language (grades 1-8) it can be used as a review of figurative language

(grades 9-12)

How would I use this resource? With this lesson I would first introduce what

figurative language is, and follow that with some examples of figurative language. I would then explain these examples one at a time.

After giving the definition of a term, I would then ask the class to come up with an example, and then have the student come to the Smart Board and pull down the grey screen to unveil my example.

Continued…Once I have done this for every term there are a few interactive

games.

The students would then come up to the Smart Board and complete these games, which reinforce the ideas of figurative language and the definitions of each term.

These games also help the students to come up with and learn new examples for each term.

Some games include dragging terms into specified locations, others involve writing answers down with the Smart Board pens.

After all of this the conclusion slide is an overall review game of all the terms, this would help reinforce each specific term and test the students understanding.

Smart Boards and Universal Design?

• The Smart Board is a great example of universal design in the classroom for many reasons.

• The Smart Board has equitable use, which means its design is useful and marketable to a diverse range of people with a diverse range of abilities.

• The design also accommodates a wide range of individual preferences and abilities.

• The design also gives learners various ways to acquire information and knowledge, as well as multiple means of action and expression. It gives learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know.

• These points are exemplified in my lesson plan. There are various methods being used in the presentation which involve, visual learning, tactile learning, and auditory learning.
