PRODUCTION
Control reserve is one of the so called system services
To maintain grid stability, power production and consumption have to be balanced in every
second
Control reserve is a service to compensate mismatch of production and consumption
Network operators purchase such services since they are responsible for grid stability
Frequency is an indicator for the balance between production and consumption
Control reserve energy
PRODUCTION CONSUMPTION
50 Hertz

PRODUCTION Control reserve
Positive and negative
Consumption > Production
Positive control reserve
(patch in producers,
switch off loads)
Consumption < Production
Negative control reserve
(shut down producers,
switch on loads)

20 | PRESENTATION OF SMART POWER HAMBURG FOR KESTI DELEGATION
SMART POWER HAMBURG Challenge
Increasing shares of renewable energies
decentralized, volatile power generation
plants
Intelligent connection of producers,
consumers, storage units and grids
Changing requirements for electricity grids
Growing demand for means to store
energy and increase flexibility of
producers and consumers
Means:
Virtual power plants, smart grids, CHP-
Plants, utilization of urban infrastructure
and innovative business models
