This then helps us with bigger multiples. Have a look at both. Can you see a pattern?

Add and subtract multiples of 100

Using our number bonds to ten, we know the following.

This then helps us with bigger multiples. Have a look at both. Can you see a pattern?

Therefore, if I were to ask you what is 3 + 4 you would be able to tell me that the answer is 7. This means that you would be able to tell me the answer to 30 + 40 is 70.

We can use bar models to help us represent this:

7

3

4

3 + 4= 7 30 + 40 = 70

4 + 3 = 7 40 + 30 = 70

7- 4 = 3 70 – 40 = 30

7- 3 = 4 70 – 30 = 40

A – Colour the number sentences that match. Then work out the answers.

5 + 3 =

4 + 2 =

4000 + 2000=

50 + 30 =

10 + 50 =

300 + 800 =

400 + 200 =

100 + 500 =

500 + 300 =

3 + 8 =

30 + 80 =

40 + 20 =

1 + 5 =

3000 + 8000 =

5000 + 3000 =

1000 + 5000 =

I –

How many number sentences can you write for this bar model?

GPS – Writing and punctuating sentences

If you can have a look at this video to remind yourself when you are meant to use capital letters in your sentences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9yBApgc2Vg

We know that a sentence is a set of words that makes a complete thought. A sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. Usually a sentence contains a subject and always contains a verb.

Sentences can have different functions which have been included below with colour coded examples:

Statements are sentences that express a fact, idea or opinion.

An exclamation is a more forceful version of a statement that uses an exclamation mark to convey excitement or emotion.

A question is a type of sentence that we ask or write to gain further information.

A command is a type of sentence which instructs or orders an action to take place.

For example:

Terry went to the shop to buy some sweets.

I hate it when my feet get wet at the beach!

Who do you think will win the competition?

Please go and sit on your chair.

A – Correct the punctuation in the piece of writing below:

i went to see my friend bobby the other day and we decided to play in the garden while we were in the Garden we saw a hedgehog hiding in a huge Pile of leaves i told bobby that we shouldn’t touch it because it was sleeping the hedgehog looked nice and cosy

I – Match the sentence to its correct sentence type.

M – Using the picture in the middle, write a statement, command, question and exclamation. Make sure to punctuate your sentence correctly.

Science- Sun Safety

This week in Science, you will be looking at ways to keep safe from the sun. You will be researching on how to protect your eyes from harmful light from the sun.

Today you will be exploring the benefits and dangers of the sun.

Have you ever been told not to look at the sun? Why do you think somebody might have said this to you?

Is the sun good or bad?

The statement below are all things that the sun does.

Write each statement out either in a book or on a piece of paper. Next to each statement, write ‘hero’ or ‘villain’ to describe the sun. If you are unsure as to what the terms hero and villain mean, use a dictionary to find the definition before you start your activity.

Remember these are in your opinion.

Share your answers with an adult. Compare your results.

Choose three statements and explain why you have chosen it to be either a ‘hero’ or a ‘villain’ statement.

Verbs

If you can, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caxLA9HWQ5M

A verb is a word used to describe an action, state or occurrence.

Verbs can be used to describe an action, that’s doing something. For example, like the word ‘jumping’ in this sentence:

The rabbit was jumping in the field.

They can also be used to describe a state of being, that’s feeling something. For example, the word ‘likes’ here:

The monster likes rollercoasters.

Or a verb can be used to describe an occurrence, that’s something happening. For example, the word ‘became’ in this sentence:

The caterpillar became a butterfly.

When writing, make sure every sentence includes a verb.

Science- Sun safety

Today you will be exploring what UV lights mean. You will be explaining what UV lights is and its dangers.

The sun emits (gives out) rays of light.

We can’t see all the types of light that come from the sun.

The visible spectrum is the name for the light that we can see and is made up of the colours of the rainbow.

Quick task: Draw a rainbow. Try and get all the colours correct and in order.

What is UV light?

Today you will be creating a fact file about UV lights. You will be researching and finding different facts about what UV light is and the effects of it.

Use the template below help you to organise your research. I have started some for you to help you plan your findings.

Here is a useful link you might want to use:

What UV light can cause?

If you can watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfenLGAYDeg

An adverb is simply a word that describes a verb (an action or a doing word).

• He ate his breakfast quickly.

The word 'quickly' is an adverb as it tells us how he ate (the verb) his breakfast.

Adverbs can come before or after a verb.

• He 'quickly' ate his lunch.

• He ate his lunch 'quickly'.

Now have a go at writing some sentences of your own using some interesting adverbs. I have included an adverb word mat to help you.

Seeing ‘UV’ light

The eye is made to let light in; this is how we see.

Look at the person opposite to you or if you have a mirror in front of you look in the mirror. Can you identify your pupil? It looks like a black circle.

The pupil grows bigger in the dark to allow more light to enter the eye. This helps us to see when it is dark. The pupil gets smaller in bright light to allow less light to enter the eye. This stops the eye from being damaged by too much light.

NOTE: if you do not have black card, you can use any black paper or colour in paper using black colouring pencil.

Inverted Commas

If you can, watch the video about inverted commas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHyHMfjh1us

We use inverted commas to show direct speech in writing. Inverted commas are placed around the speech and only contain the words that are being spoken including the punctuation. There should be either a comma, full stop, question mark or exclamation mark before the closing inverted comma. However, if the speech comes after the reported clause a comma should be used to separate it.

For example:

“Don’t go in there,” she whispered.

Mary shouted, “give me my coat back!”

A – Have a go at writing these speech bubbles as direct speech.

I – Have a go at being the teacher. Your job is to correct the mistakes people have made when writing direct speech and rewrite it correctly below.

M - Using the picture, write a conversation that these two people are having using direct speech. Remember each time a new person talks you need to start a new line.

Sentence Types – Simple, Compound, Complex

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loxepvEYkx8

Sentences can be structured in different ways.

A simple sentence has a subject and only one verb. E.g. The girl sprinted after the tiger.

A compound sentence is formed when you join two main clauses (which would make sense on their own) with a connective. In a compound sentence the clauses are linked by co-ordinating conjunction (and, but, so, or). E.g. I like bananas and I like grapes.

A complex sentence is formed when you join a main clause and a subordinate clause with a connective. A subordinate clause is one that relies on a main clause to make sense. E.g. I love roast potatoes, although my mum prefers them mashed.

A– Write a simple sentence for each of these pictures.
