Since 1000 Islands Used Vehicle Sales and Services opened just over a year ago in Smiths Falls, their business has grown every month.

“We are happy with how things have progressed here,” says General Manager Chris Walker. “Every month has been our best month.”

A family-operated business, 1000 Islands Used Vehicle Sales and Services understands the value of time for busy families, which is why they opened their doors in Smiths Falls.

A division of 1000 Islands Toyota in Brockville, the Smiths Falls location specializes in servicing Toyotas, eliminating a commute for existing Toyota customers.

“Before we opened, Toyota owners in the Smiths Falls and Perth areas had to drive to Brockville to get their car serviced,” Walker explains. “They can now bring their car to our location as we specialize in servicing Toyotas, and we’ve cut that inconvenient 40-minute drive for these cli-ents.”

As a result, Walker says they have been welcomed by the community with open arms.

They were recently given platinum-status as the Smiths Falls Used Car Dealership in Metroland’s 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards.

“We were just thrilled to receive readers’ support for the second year in a row,” says Walker.

Though they specialize in servicing Toyotas, 1000 Islands Used Vehicle Sales and Services can service all makes and

models.

With service manager Tony Reuvers on hand along with mechanics James Preece and David Kayser, Walker says their qualifi ed staff brings good results to clients. As well, Shane Sullivan in the sales offi ce offers experience and knowledge.

“The group of guys we have here at 1000 Islands really instills confi dence with our customers,” says Walker.

The car lot includes a range of pre-owned vehicles, many of which meet a particular market demand.

“Our niche is geared toward vehicles that are reliable and fuel effi cient, running in line with the Toyota brand,” Walk-er explains.

He adds they work to ensure their inventory meets all customer inquiries, so they also bring in SUVs, trucks and vans. They even have a used travel trailer on the lot.

“We want to ensure our customers have every option available to them,” he explains.

While providing top service and a solid inven-tory base, Walker says they want their custom-ers to have a good experience when purchasing a vehicle.

“A lot of the time people are stressed when it comes to buying a vehicle, and we want to elim-inate that stress,” he says. “Buying a vehicle is not something you do every day, and this is supposed to be an exciting time. We work to

ensure the entire process – from browsing to the purchase phase – remains a positive experience for the customer.”

Following in the footsteps of his father, who opened 1000 Islands Toyota 31 years ago, Walker says they are commun-ity oriented.

“We are here for the long haul, and it’s important for us to be involved with the community,” he says.

Not only does 1000 Islands Used Vehicle Sales and Services sponsor a number of area golf tournaments, they are also involved with the Smiths Falls Rotary Club and they spon-sor the Go-Kart track at the Lombardy Fairgrounds.

1000 Islands Used Vehicles Sales and Services is located at 237 Lombard St. in Smiths Falls. They can be reached at 613-283-4612, or you can check out their existing inven-

tory at yournextcar.ca.

The stone home that is occupied by the Lannin Funeral Homewas built in the 1840s. It is the oldest stone structure in Smiths Falls, apart from the locks and dams on the Rideau Canal. The home was operated as a hotel in the 1850s. An outside staircase led up to the second fl oor and the arched windows were originally doors with a fan light above. It was known as Doyle’s Hotel. However, the hotel was more commonly referred to as “the Last Chance” because the bar room door was level with the sidewalk outside. In 1914, J.J. Marsh and his wife Annie started the funeral home in the stone house with a furniture store attached to the side of the home. When they passed away, Gordon and Lawrence Marsh ran the funeral home until 1958 when G. Ray Lannin purchased it and changed the name to its present name, Lannin Funeral Home. In 1979, William Hilton and his wife, Sue Anne, purchased the funeral home from G. Ray Lannin and still operate it to this day as the Lannin Funeral Home Chapel and Reception Centre. The Lannin Funeral Home family has been serving all faiths in the Smiths Falls, Merrickville and surrounding areas for over 145 years.

Thank YouLannin Funeral Home would like to extend a thank you to all of our community, friends and clients for the ongoing support received and for the Diamond Readers’ Choice Award. We are pleased to be a part of this community and we will continue in our commitment to serve the local and surrounding areas.

Lacey’s Furniture thrilled to be a three-time “Readers’ Choice” winnerAt 40 Main Street East Smiths Falls, home of Lacey’s Furniture, there’s a new stretch of sidewalk and a fully renovated receiving area.

A look outside showed that time was taking its toll on Main Street East. When someone suggested inter-locking brick for the sidewalk, a local business was chosen to do the work. The newly reno-vated receiving area not only improves the appearance of the store, but also im-proves the ability for shipping and re-ceiving.

The staff at Lacey’s Furniture strives to serve the average household, and help customers fi nd what they need. Unlike the big box and discount stores, Lacey’s Furniture carries quality furniture, sup-porting the Canadian market with Can-adian made products, as much as pos-sible.

Lacey’s Furniture has the largest mat-tress centre in the Smiths Falls/Perth area, carrying all of the top brands:

Sealy, Simmons, Serta and Springwall. All sizes are available. If you don’t see what you want, just ask, and see if it can ordered in for you.

There is a lot of free parking available in front of the store. Take your time, try that sofa or chair, look at the new innovative coffee table, get a real feel for the furniture of your dreams. Your fur-niture and your comfort are all part and parcel of shopping at

Lacey’s Furniture. Payment plans are available, with details in store.

The plan for the future is to keep right on giving good service to the people of Smiths Falls and the Ottawa valley for many years to come with the brand names people have come to know.

Jim Lacey and his staff truely appreciate the Reader’s Choice Award; the vote of confi dence given by their customers.

Thank you,Jim Lacey and staff

Vitamin D on the HouseVitamin D on the HouseTHE SMART TAN CREED...

Moderate indoor tanning, for individuals who can develop a tan, is the smartest way to maximize the potential benefi ts of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks associated with either too much or too little sunlight.

Tanning is not a sideline here!At the Bronze Bayou, we practice smart tanning. We believe that teaching people to avoid the sun and tanning beds may be making them more likely to burn when they do go outside for summer activities. Consider: Tanning is your body’s natural defence mechanism against sunburn and indoor tanners have activated this defense against burning, in a controlled environment; non-tanners are more vulnerable when they do go outdoors, even with their sunscreen. Fact: 90% of the Vitamin D in our body comes from UV exposure. It’s no wonder we have such a high rate of Vi-tamin D defi ciency. Our bodies are meant to have sunshine, as much as we are meant to consume water, eat food and exercise. Moderation is the key to a healthy lifestyle and teaching the youth of today, the proper way, can result in less cases of sun damage through overexposure, which usually happens with prolonged tanning outdoors. Let’s face it, we, as Canadians, ‘LOVE OUR SUMMER’! You cannot stop us from enjoying it! The Bronze Bayou is here to help and would like to thank all who have shown their support in the past and hopes to help many more enjoy the benefi ts of the Sunshine Vitamin. Feel free to pop in for more info, check out our specials and receive a free skin type analysis. Our studio is air-conditioned for your comfort, so come in and relax .... looking forward to seeing you!
