The Smithy Telegraph Edition 14 - March 2011 The Smithy Telegraph From the Director... Edition 14 - March 2011 Greetings from Corporate Office in Mooloolaba.... Well 2011 has started like no other year before... We've seen flash flooding in QLD and other states, cyclone Yasi tore up the northern QLD coastline, the devastating earthquake in Christchurch and the more recent catastrophe in Japan. I recently attended the South Island franchise meeting in Christchurch and got to see first hand some of the affected areas from the earthquake, which I must say was pretty overwhelming. So much destruction and loss of life it's hard to comprehend, but our thoughts and prayers go out to those families affected by these recent tragedies... I've had many people say to me, "Your guys must be busy with all the floods and earthquakes". Although our team will get their fair share work out of it, it's hard to get excited about it. But as a team we are all moving forward and its heads down at Smithy's....Christmas came and went and we are now a 1/4 through the year, and so far this year we have seen some offices produce record sales, new Smithy offices opening, more project consultants joining our group and I am pleased to say still more builders are realising the benefits of joining our company. Although this issue doesn't introduce any new faces to the team, I can assure you the next one will. I hope you enjoy reading this edition and look forward to seeing you soon. Take care, Corey. www.smith-sons.com Once again, the Smithy Telegraph brings you all the latest news that is happening in Smith & Sons, Australia and New Zealand’s most exciting renovation company! New Design Centres...

Ian and Tania have been going flat out to get everything up and running in Toowoomba. They have done a great job and got their Design Centre open in a quick timeframe. And it was just in time! Due to the major flooding that Toowoomba experienced earlier this year, Ian has been inundated with flood repair work and has so much work he needs more tradesmen yesterday!! Well done Ian and Tania - fantastic effort.

Also, Peter and Annie from Coorparoo are very, very close to opening their Design Centre - pictures next issue! And, the quiet achievers from Sydney North will have some pictures next issue of their TWO new Design Centres - Andrew Dickson’s in Killara and Steve Rahme’s in Turramurra. The boys have been chipping away at getting their Design Centres up and going and we can’t wait to see the results! Apparently Mark McNulty gave Andrew from Hornsby a hand to do some framing in his Design Centre - so we hope those walls are straight boys!

In NZ, Dave Poole’s Hibiscus Coast Design Center is also coming along nicely! It is in a brilliant position and will be a real flagship for Smithy’s in Auckland! You won’t be able to miss it!

under construction!

Here we are!

Brisbane Master Meeting...

Brisbane was the city of choice for February’s Master Meeting. With much to discuss, the one day meeting spilled over into two and turned out to be a very productive couple of days. The meeting was held at the Miele showroom and many thanks to Kym and the team from Miele for making our time there so enjoyable.

Albany Homeshow...

The Auckland offices recently attended the Albany Home Show and got quite a few good leads. I must say that builder in the poster looks very familiar...

Congratulations Lance and Marianne Irving on the latest edition to your family - little Lily Lou Irving. Well done guys!

South Island Franchise Meeting...

New Cars...

Some more new cars on the road - Peter and Annie’s Landcruiser (for trips to Fraser Island with the Smithy crew) and Richard from Queenstown has the Nissan all Smithied up as well!

Corey recently travelled over to the South Island for their first franchise meeting for this year. Held at Gerry’s place it looked like the cellar was very well used the night before! Gerry has converted an old flaxmill into a very swish venue for parties, weddings and franchise meetings!

Richard.

We have landed in Queenstown!

Richard in Queenstown has taken to the air by sponsoring a paraglider! Paragliding rides over Queenstown are very popular and so it is a great opportunity to get the Smithy name out there!

Christchurch Quake

After the severe earthquakes in Christchurch, Lance and the team have been very busy keeping homes safe. One of the more common jobs is to ensure chimneys are safe to make sure they don’t fall on anyone living in the home.

Queensland Floods...

Ian from Toowoomba Smithies has just started a few insurance jobs as a result of the floods in Toowoomba and Brisbane. Here is a couple of pictures of one home he is about to commence...

Around the Traps...

Trent Gardner got into the local newspaper for all the wrong reasons recently when a scooter ride in Thailand went wrong! After an accident, Trent ended up in hospital for a few weeks and had to undergo extensive surgery. He is up and at it again and back at training now.

Di Cetin our NZ Training Manager recently held a training day for some of the NZ franchisees and it was a fantastic success. Di has been doing a fantastic job and thanks so much for your efforts Di!

While visiting Max Peterson from Tarragindi at one of his job sites, Corey decided to pick up a shovel and lend a hand.Later in hospital with various work related injuries he said he regretted the decision.

backs up with some great support and has been out and about talking to suppliers to hook up the best deals possible for their franchisees. They have had quite a few meetings with potential franchisees as far north as Cairns and Townsville. In the Central North Island, Brett and John have been busy focussing on getting Franchises up and running in Wellington. After a few positive meetings, Corey just nipped over this week to join Brett for a couple of key meetings which hopefully will result in some new franchisees there!

In Queensland, Jeff Thompson and Steven Nousala have joined forces and combined their respective areas. Jeff handles most of the sales, and Steve
