You, the Class of 2015, are about to take part in a tradition at

Southwest Minnesota State University. Mustang “Gold Rush”

Days symbolizes the start of your academic and social quest for

success. A “Gold Rush” by definition is:

1: a rush to newly discovered goldfields in pursuit of riches

2: the headlong pursuit of sudden wealth in a new or lucrative field

3: to lavish attention on

4: to secure a pledge of membership

5: a thronging of people usually to a new place in search of wealth

Our four-day orientation program will provide sessions to

acclimate you to our student services, and the guest speakers

will give you advice about how to be successful in a college

environment. The various activities during the days and nights

will give you the opportunity to smile, laugh, and have fun with

your fellow classmates. This is the start of a new chapter in your

life, and we want to start it off with a BANG!

RegisTRaTiOn fOR fall Classes

Although many of you have registered for your fall classes, some

have not. Information concerning the August 19 Registration Day

will be mailed to students prior to the program and you will need

to RSvP for the program. If you have questions about registration,

please contact the Office of Admission at 800-642-0684 ext. 6286.

finanCial aid infORmaTiOn

Check the status of your financial aid via e-services at

www.SMSU.edu. If your award has not been finalized, your loan

is not certified, or you have any questions, please contact the

Financial Aid Office at 1-800-642-0684 or (507) 537-6281. The

Financial Aid Office will be open from 8:30 a.m.

to 4:00 p.m., August 15 - 19.

emplOymenT infORmaTiOn

If you plan to work on or off campus while attending Southwest

Minnesota State University, regulations require you to present

your original social security card and a picture ID to your

employer to verify your eligibility to work in the United States.

Please be sure to bring these documents with you when you come

to Southwest so paychecks will not be delayed.

Aug. 27 Financial Aid will be applied to fall semester bills

Sept. 2 Financial Aid refunds are available by direct deposit or can be

issued by check. The checks can be picked up at the Cashiers

Window until 2:30 p.m. All refund checks are mailed after this

date.

Sept. 5 Parking permits required

Cashier hoursThe Cashier’s office located in iL 132 will be open extended hours

during Fall orientation. There will be times when the office is closedto download computer information each day. Below is a list of the

times they will be open for you to pay your bill, pick up refundchecks, turn in Direct Deposit authorization forms, and purchase

parking permits.

Move-In Day 2011 is scheduled for Thursday, August 18. Naoutha

will be open to check-in on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.,

Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday & Sunday 10:00

a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

9:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M. “sex signals”SMSU TheatreBlending a unique combination of improvisational comedy, education and audience participation, "sex signals" provides a provocative, in-your-face look at issues surrounding dating, sex and date rape on college campuses. Through the use of humor, the show explores how mixed messages, gender role stereotypes and unrealistic fantasies contribute to misunderstandings between the sexes. students are engaged in a candid discussion on dating and the realities of date rape as they are challenged to provide solutionsthat will better improve communications in interpersonal relationships.

When does my Fall Semester bill have to be paid?a: students must either have their bill paid in full by august 1, 2011, or musthave met the minimum payment criteria to avoid cancellation of courseregistration. Minimum payment criteria can be viewed atwww.sMsu.edu/PaymentPolicy .

If I have been awarded work-study, how do I go about finding a job on campus?a: The Financial aid office has a listing of campus departments and contactnumbers. Campus job openings will be posted outside the Fa office and on oursMsu website under student employment. it is up to you to contact thedepartments or areas in which you are interested and ask if they have any jobsavailable. You will fill out applications and go in for interviews.

Do I get a pay check for the work-study hours I work?a: Yes. You will receive a paycheck every two weeks for the number of hours youput in. Most students work an average of 8-10 hours per week and get paid $8.00per hour. You may pick up your work-study checks at the Cashier’s office or usedirect deposit.

As a student, when can I pick up my Stafford Loan Check?a: stafford Loan funds will first be applied to charges for the semester. any fundsremaining will be available on september 2 at the Cashier’s office. Direct depositwill be available and students are encouraged to fill out the direct deposit form.

When should I buy my books and how much will they cost?a: The Campus store will be open during fall orientation for new students topurchase their books. students may purchase new or used books from thebookstore, and they will generally cost $500 /semester.

Can I change my meal plan if it is not right for me?a: Yes. Meal plan changes for Fall semester may be made through Friday,september 2, 2011. Meal plan changes for spring semester can be made the lasttwo weeks of Fall semester through the first two weeks of spring Classes. Theserequests need to be submitted in writing at the housing office located in studentCenter 225.

When do meal plans start?a: Meal plans begin Thursday, august 18, for the evening meal. Meals from yourdining plan can be used in the residential restaurant located in the studentCenter. The meal plan week starts on saturday and runs through Friday. Your mealplan will start over each week. Your meals do not carry over from week to week.

How do I use my Mustang Money?a: Mustang Money can be used just like Cash to purchase anything in theresidential restaurant, the Food Court, Java City, Mustang express, concessions,and even student catering. The cashier will simply scan your student iD for theamount purchased. Mustang Money is an easy way to purchase items withoutcarrying extra cash.

Do I have to leave the Residence Halls during breaks or can I stay in my room?a: The only time the residence halls close is at the end of Fall semester inDecember. The halls are closed for approximately one month while students areon semester break. interim housing is available for students at a minimal costduring this time.

students may purchase parkingpermits at Commons Central duringMove in Day between the hours of10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Permits are

also available at the Cashier’s officelocated in the iL building during

scheduled office hours.

except reserved spaces.)

$274.00(Allows you to park in any general reserved space

in a particular lot.)

$249.00(For those living in Fourndation Apart. only)

- motorcycle permit -

in a particular lot.)
