So, Help Me Understand What is Compassion? What's empathy? Compassion in my experience, is showing love and kindness toward others, giving them a piece of your heart, and asking for nothing back in return. I'm blessed to work with customers and their families regular, and to distribute compassion to those who mightn't receive it otherwise, or often. I recently had the chance to see a customer who was in Boca Raton, Florida who was recovering from a broken hip. I went to visit her to check to see how she was feeling, and I likewise wanted to be sure that she understood that she was being thought of by me. When I walked in the space, her eyes lit up and she said, "What have you been doing here?" "I came to see you because I care about you, and I would like to see how you might be feeling." I responded. We spoke for over an hour about her ideas on her treatment, the food of the facility, for after she returned home and her plans. It made me feel really great that I could show her love and kindness. Stopping by to see was such a small action from me, but it made a large impact along with her. We consider that compassion makes all of the difference. You'll find lots of ways to show compassion and they may be as simple as calling to check on someone who we know is sick, or by visiting him or her if they're in the hospital. Showing compassion can be as easy as finding the time to actually listen to others. We get so caught up in trying to "fix" everything, when often times, people simply need someone to listen to them, understand that they're heard, which their feelings are validated. I challenge everyone to be the definition of compassion also to show kindness and love toward everyone you meet. PreferHome
