The Merlion(Malay:Singa-Laut) is a mythical creature withthe head of a lion and the body of a fish, used as a mascotand national personification ofSingapore. Its name combines

head represents Singapore's original name Singapura

meaning "lion city" or "kota singa".

The symbol was designed by Fraser Brunner, a member of the Souvenir Committee and curator

    March 1964 to 1997

    [1]

and has been its trademarked symbol since 20 July 1966. Although theSTB changed their logo in 1997, the STB Act continues to protect the Merlion symbol.[2]

Approval must be received from STB before it can be used. The Merlion appears frequently onSTB-approved souvenirs.

The merliona mythical creature with the body of a fish and the head of a lionoccurs in anumber of different artistic traditions. Lions with fishtails can be found on Indian murals at

Ajanta and Mathura, and on Etruscan coins of the Hellenistic period. Merlions, or heraldic sea-

The next text is for answering the questions number 33 37 !

The relatively large naturalbodies that revolve in orbits

around the Sun or other stars

are called planets. The termdoes not include small bodies

    such as comets, meteoroids,

    and asteroids.

The planets that orbit the Sun

are part of the solar system,

which includes the Sun and all the bodies that circle it. The Sun governs the planets' orbitalmotions by gravitational attraction and provides the planets with light and heat. Ideas about what

makes a planet have changed over time. According to the current definition, there are eight

planets in the solar system. In order of increasing mean distance from the Sun, the planets areMercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto was considered the

solar system's ninth and outermost planet from 1930 until 2006, when it was reclassified as a

    dwarf planet.

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, all of which can be seen without a telescope, have

been known since ancient times. The ancient Greeks used the term planet, meaning wanderers, for these five bodies plus the Sun and Earth's Moon, because the objects appeared to move across

the background of the apparently fixed stars. The names of these seven bodies are still connected,

in some languages, with the days of the week. In time astronomers learned more about how

celestial objects move in the sky, and they recognized that the Sun, not Earth, is the center of the

solar system. The term planet came to be reserved for large bodies that orbit the Sun and not

another planet, so the Sun and Moon were no longer considered planets.

With the aid of telescopes, modern astronomers have discovered hundreds of thousands ofadditional objects orbiting the Sun, including more planets. Although Uranus also is sometimes

visible with the naked eye, ancient astronomers were unable to distinguish it from the stars.

Uranus was first identified as a planet in 1781. The eighth planet, Neptune, was discovered in

    1846. (Encyclopedia Britanica Ultimate)

    33. The term planets refers to .A. all heavenly bodies that are in the universe.

    B. small bodies that revolve in the orbit.C. large bodies that orbit the sun.D. celestial objects that move in the sky.

    34. Pluto was called an outermost planet .A. before 1930 C. after 2006B. until 1930 D. before 2006.

    35. which includes the Sun and all the bodies that circle it ( paragraph 2 )The word it refers to

    A. rock C. sunB. planet D. orbit

    36. The last paragraph tells us about A. the use of telescope to discover the objects.B. the discovery of aid to identify the planets.C. the ways of astronomers to discover the stars.D. how the astronomer to distinguish the planets.
