Demography• Study of human populations• Age has a great deal to do with our interests, habits, our tastes &
spending.– Demography is the key to having a strong marketing campaign
Why might Demographers be useful for a nation?Make social and economic recommendations of age groups. Also
useful to Anthropologist and Sociologist. Governments use demographic projections to help shape policies,
such as immigration policies. Education system is able to project the needs of the students (rise in
immigration = need for ESL programs...depending on where this immigration stems from)
Generation X• Children grew up surrounded by materialism
What’s materialism?• Rejected society as being meaningless and boring.• Refused to conform to societies norms & values• Distrust any large institution• Overcrowded world = no choice to look out for #1• First day of Kindergarten = not enough seats• Demographic of high unemployment, low level work
compared to education.

Changing Populations
• Natural increase: more births than deaths in a period of time (approx 5 year).
• Natural decrease: more deaths than births in a period of time.
• Immigration - Emigration = net migration
Baby Boomers....Cause & Effects to this major demographic.
