IntroductionThis document provides a summary of the results of a survey carried out by SoftTest Ireland and the All-Island Software Network in March and April 2007. The purpose of the survey, which was sponsored by Insight Test Services Ltd, was to identify the areas and topics of most interest to the software, and more specifically the software test, community in Ireland.Survey respondents were asked to identify in order of preference the five areas of most interest to them from a predefined list of software quality and test areas. The first table below shows the rating for each area, indicating the number of respondents who rated each area as first, second, third, etc. A total score was calculated for each area by awarding 5 points for each first preference, four points for each second preference down to one point for fifth preference. These total scores for each area are presented in the second chart below.The rest of the survey refers to specific topics within the broad test areas. The areas covered by the survey are:

• Test Management • Test Organisation/Structure• Process Improvement • Test Tools & Automation• Outsourcing Testing • Development Lifecycle• Test Stages • Non-functional Testing• Other Testing Topics.

Respondents were asked to indicate their level of interest as being high, medium, low, or none/not applicable for each of the topics. They were also asked to indicate their preferred delivery option (expert presentation, workshop, etc) for each of the topics. The results below show two tables for each of the test areas. The first table shows the level of interest and the second table depicts the preferred delivery option.The results are based on 74 total respondents. However, all respondents did not answer all questions.
