A. Insert the Setup Wizard CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The SetupWizard should run automatically, and the Welcome screen should appear. If itdoes not, click Start and choose Run. In the field that appears, enterD:\setup.exe (if “D” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).

B. Click the Next button.

C. After reading the LicenseAgreement, click Next if youagree, or Cancel to end theinstallation.

Attention Windows XP users: Go directly to Step 2.

D. The Setup Wizard will ask you to choose a wireless mode. Click theInfrastructure Mode radio button if you want your wireless computers tonetwork with computers on your wired network using a wireless accesspoint. Click the Ad-Hoc Mode radio button if you want multiple wirelesscomputers to network directly with each other.

In the SSID field, enter the SSIDof your wireless network. TheSSID must be identical for alldevices in the network. Thedefault setting is linksys (all low-ercase). Click Next.

For added security, Linksys rec-ommends that you change thedefault SSID to a unique name.

E. If you chose Infrastructure Mode,go to Step F now. If you choseAd-Hoc Mode, select the type ofnetwork your notebook will con-nect to, 802.11a or 802.11b. ClickNext and go to Step F.

F. The Setup Wizard will ask you toreview your settings before itstarts to copy files. Click Next ifyou are satisfied with your set-tings, or click Back to change anysettings.

After connecting the Adapter to your computer, you will install the driver.

A. Windows XP will automati-cally detect the Adapter.Insert the Setup CD-ROMinto your CD-ROM drive.Click the radio button next toInstall the software auto-matically (Recommended).Then click Next.

B. Windows will notify you that the driver has not passed Windows Logo test-ing. This is normal, and it has been verified that the Adapter does work withWindows XP. Click Continue Anyway.

C. When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.

D. After installing the Adapter, theWi n d ow s X P Wi r e l e s s Z e r oConfiguration icon will appear inyour computer’s system tray.Double-click the icon.

Note: Windows XP has a built-in configuration tool. Use Windows XPWireless Zero Configuration (located in the system tray at the bottom of yourscreen) to configure the Adapter.

A. Turn off your notebook PC.

B. Locate an available PCMCIA slot on your notebook PC.

C. Insert the Adapter with the label side facing up, so the Adapter fits snuglyin the PCMCIA slot.

D. Restart your notebook PC.

E. For Windows 2000, you may be informed that a digital signature has notbeen found. This is normal, and it has been verified that the Adapter doeswork with Windows 2000. Click Yes to continue.

F. Windows will begin copying the driver files to your computer. If Windowsasks you for the original Windows CD-ROM, insert the CD-ROM, anddirect Windows to its proper location (e.g., D:\).

Windows 98, Me, and 2000 users: Congratulations! The installation ofthe Dual-Band Wireless A+B Notebook Adapter is complete.

Windows XP users: Proceed to Step 3.

E. The screen that appears willshow any available wireless net-work. Select the network youwant.

If this network has WEP encryp-tion enabled, go to Step F.

If this network does not haveWEP encryption enabled, thenthe screen in Figure E willappear. Make sure the box nextto Allow me to connect to theselected wireless network, eventhough it is not secure ischecked. Then click Connect,and go to Step G.

F. The screen in Figure F willappear. Enter the WEP key ofyour wireless network in theNetwork key field, and re-enter itin the Confirm network keyfield. Then click Connect.
