Diagram 1.1 and Diagram 1.2 show two babies sleeping in their spring cradles. The two cradles are extended with the same displacement and released so that they move up and down.

At the beginning, the up and down movement are the same for both cradles. But at the end, the cradle shown in Diagram 1.1 stops earlier than the cradle shown in Diagram 1.2.

(a)make one suitable inference [1 mark] (b) state one appropriate hypothesis that could be investigated [1 mark](c)describe how you would design an experiment to test your hypothesis using and other apparatus.

With the use of apparatus such as a spring and other apparatus, describe an experiment framework to investigate the hypothesis stated in (b). In your description, state clearly the following: Aim of the experiment. Variables in the experiment.List of apparatus and materials Arrangement of the apparatus. The procedure of the experiment which include the method of controlling the manipulated variable and the method of measuring the responding variable. The way you would tabulate the data. The way you would analyze the data [10 marks]

ANSWER3(a) The time taken for the spring to oscillate up and down depend on its mass.(b) The larger the mass the slower the time taken.( c ) To investigate the relationship between the mass and the period(i)Manipulated variable Mass of the slotted weight(ii)Responding variable: Period (iii) Constant variable : length of spring, strength of spring, type of spring

(iv)spring , slotted weights, stopwatch, retort stand, clamp

A 50 g weight is hung from the lower end of the spring. The time for 10 complete oscillations is taken and recorded.Determine T and T 2The steps are repeated using weights of 100, 150g, 200g and 250g.
