Across the great ―Buck‖ eye Sta te of Ohio, citizens have caught on: No longer duped into believing lethal methods are even remotely capable of controlling deer populations , Solon Deer is confident a ballot initiative will successfully demonstrate the majority agrees with its 21st Century stance on deer as sentient beings. Each and every Solon council meeting saw residents and others speaking out against every lethal deer control method -- but they didn’t feel heard. Now, Solon Deer fights back, by obtaining 1,700 signatures, as required by June 30 – giving people, and animals, the power. With its valid “Initiative Petition” under Ohio Revised Code, residents – not bullying city and Public Works officials, not deceptive Division of Wildlife and USDA officials, and not vested- interest hunters -- will decide laws concerning deer in Solon. The voters will prevail, just as they did in Broadview Heights, Ottawa Hills and an increasing number of Ohio, and nationwide cities. After five years, $807,325.55 dollars – not including legal fees -- and the massacre of nearly 1,600 deer, Solon has witnessed rebounding deer populations, as predicted. Solon leaders’ poorly conceived, shortsighted ―management‖ plan failed , so they responded this winter with an even more senseless solution: bow hunting. Under the guise of “saving money” -- which Solon is painfully aware will be exponentially harder because it just lost state funding for schools –  it’s really an effort to cater to a very small minority of hunters.  Advocates for 21 st Century solutions were right all along. But just being right doesn’t win the fight. This is the way to go: Solon Deer urges Solon residents to sign – and, if possible, help volunteer with -- the petition. Petitioners will be out en force, beginning Saturday, April 16th, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Solon Recreation Center, 35000 Portz Parkway, Solon, OH 44139. High-powered rifles, bows and arrows and all other lethal methods simply do not belong in Solon! For more information and to learn about how you can help with Solon Deer as a petitioner (easy, quick sessions mobilize volunteers to legally collect signatures), or to obtain a free ―No Hunting in Our Neighborhood‖ yard sign, visit www.SolonDeer.com , or Email [email protected]. Solon Deer is a grassroots, volunteer group -- with Solon, Ohio, residents at its core – confident about ending all senseless, expensive, dangerous, completely ineffective lethal methods of controlling deer in Solon, adjacent Glenwillow, or any other adjacent community as originally proposed or ever to be proposed by the City of Solon. ###

SOLONITES UNITE WITH BALLOT INITIATIVE TOSTOP LETHAL DEER CONTROL IN ITS TRACKS

Group “ Solon Deer”  Bucks Government ‘ Business as Usual’  with Startling

Ballot Initiative, Mobilizing Residents

Solon, Ohio— April 14, 2011—  Solon Deer, a groundswell of Solon, Ohioans, has joined forces

with likeminded others to rewrite Solon’s senseless, merciless, wasteful and dangerous laws

concerning deer control in Solon.

Across the great ―Buck‖ eye State of Ohio, citizens have caught on: No longer duped into

believing lethal methods are even remotely capable of controlling deer populations, Solon Deer

is confident a ballot initiative will successfully demonstrate the majority agrees with its 21st

Century stance on deer as sentient beings.

Each and every Solon council meeting saw residents and others speaking out against every lethal

deer control method -- but they didn’t feel heard. Now, Solon Deer fights back, by obtaining

1,700 signatures, as required by June 30 – giving people, and animals, the power.

With its valid “Initiative Petition” under Ohio Revised Code, residents – not bullying city and

Public Works officials, not deceptive Division of Wildlife and USDA officials, and not vested-

interest hunters -- will decide laws concerning deer in Solon. The voters will prevail, just as theydid in Broadview Heights, Ottawa Hills and an increasing number of Ohio, and nationwide cities.

After five years, $807,325.55 dollars – not including legal fees -- and the massacre of nearly1,600 deer, Solon has witnessed rebounding deer populations, as predicted. Solon leaders’poorly conceived, shortsighted ―management‖ plan failed, so they responded this winter withan even more senseless solution: bow hunting. Under the guise of “saving money” -- whichSolon is painfully aware will be exponentially harder because it just lost state funding forschools –  it’s really an effort to cater to a very small minority of hunters.

Advocates for 21st

Century solutions were right all along. But just being right doesn’t win the

fight. This is the way to go: Solon Deer urges Solon residents to sign – and, if possible, helpvolunteer with -- the petition. Petitioners will be out en force, beginning Saturday, April 16th,9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Solon Recreation Center, 35000 Portz Parkway, Solon, OH 44139.

High-powered rifles, bows and arrows and all other lethal methods simply do not belong in

Solon!
